Dear Brahmanyan sir,

These days..every new study seems to contradict the other..reminds me of philosophical debates of yesteryears of the Advaita and the Vishistadvaita kind...so we might never really know who is right.

But the time tested "middle path" in lifestyle somehow promises us a fairly healthy lifestyle.

Off late I am seeing so many patients who are not bothered to take medication for their hypertension and neither are they willing to exercise or control their diet..people aged 35 are walking around with BP of 210/120 mmHg and are totally not bothered for anything.

At the end of the day self discipline both mental and physical is of utmost importance when it comes to maintaining good health.

Obviously some diseases are genetic and that is not entirely preventable but type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension are life style preventable disease but not many want to even try to stay healthy.

As a doctor I am never in favor of anti obesity drugs like slimming pills..I get so many female patients begging me to prescribe it for them and I flatly refuse cos such pills rob away self discipline..people who take that..still have desire to over eat and never exercise..so after they stop taking the pills they gain back all the weight..but if a person changes his/her lifestyle and diet and becomes active and self discipline..results will last a longer time.

So these days I myself do not pay too much attention to many studies..its somehow always a Vadam and Prativadam of the Scientific kind.

After studying both reports I have come to the conclusion that (They are like Congress decision of any serious events hurting the country), reveals inconclusive evidence leading to suspicious circumstances towards medical practitioners and medical companies. In my pragmatic experience I have found out that if you (each individual constitution is different) are having intolerable systolic pressure your top of the head will be tapping the doors of top skull with "WiN WiN Endra Thalaivali". Then it is certainly High B.P. intolerable to your body constitution. If you can sustain without the headache it means you have been designed by God like that. In case of diastolic pressure if it reduces below 80 you will have so called slight"Thallaadum Udal" or "Mayakkam". If you are in 140/90 and you are normal without being diabetic, kidney disease, then my sincere request is please avoid medicine. any medicine addiction leads to further complications only. Please understand that each body is specially designed by Brahma in an unique way.

Dear Doctor,

I fully agree with your observations. Medical science is advancing so fast, that opinions and parameters also change at equal speed. However the basic facts "self discipline both mental and physical" to maintain a healthy body remains the same. In addition to what you have said I believe food intake also forms an important role in maintaining our health. Now so much of processed and packed food items have occupied the kitchen cabinets, there is no place left for natural food. Stress and speed are some other reasons that we can only control.

When asked What is the modern anti-hypertensive drug?, renowned Cardiologist Dr. Devi Shetty of Narayana Hrudayalaya answered
"There are quite many number of drugs and your doctor will chose the right combination for your problem, but my suggestion is to avoid the drugs and go for natural ways of controlling blood pressure by walk and diet to reduce weight and changing attitudes towards lifestyles."

Warm Regards,
Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.
