[h=1]IIT-Madras girl ‘leaves for the Himalayas’[/h]CHENNAI: A 26-year-old student of IIT-Madras went missing from her hostel on Tuesday, bizarrely leaving behind notes in her hostel room that said she was heading to the Himalayas to attain sainthood.

The city police said Vedantam L Prathyusha, from Brodipet in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, was a second-year MS student in the IIT-M's department of engineering design.

Many more students unable to bear the caste and religion divide might become drop outs and hippies

They may haunt goa beaches or head for the himalayas.

A real prospect.

The high competition in IITs and institutions of higher learning and sky high aspirations for better academic life and jobs abroad is leading to highly stressed life

Add to it the caste and religion issues close to their place of learning can breed extremism and lead to undesirable consequences,

We will hear more such stories in times to come.

In Tamil Nadu Brahmins had to bear the cross in institutions of higher learning for several decades now! Hope you are referring to that! As per your post it will increase further! But it has not lead to any extremist violence in any form?

India’s top coaching centres for JEE Main, JEE Advanced and other Entrance Exam are located at Delhi and guiding aspiring students in cracking the Exams.

In fact they are off late going for big advertisements and are opening many branches in major cities and are minting more money and are thus enriching their lives.

While few students are interested in withdrew their interest in material life, more are attracted towards richness like விட்டில் பூச்சிகள்.

We have all sorts.

I am referring to communities at both ends of the caste spectrum.

Dalits are unable to cope academically and face discrimination.

High caste who perform excellently face hostility from other communities.

What happened in hyderabad is unfortunate. Such things could happen elsewhere.

Caste and religion are taking centre stage after change in govt at the centre.

Now election in tamilnadu is going to polarise people more.

Only those at the extremes of caste spectrum pay the price.

There are religeous fanatics in every state.

I hope peace does not get disturbed in campuses.

More young Jains giving up the good life for diksha

Excerpts:

MUMBAI: Born in the lap of luxury, life for 22-year-old Juhu resident Akhil Doshi was one big party till the day he decided to renounce it all and become a Jain monk. Akhil is one among eight youngMore young Jains giving up the good life for diksha

For a person who would always move around in a car, Akhil will now have to cover huge distances on foot. His branded clothes will be replaced with simple white robes. He will have to eat sparingly on whatever alms he gets. Though the transition could seem drastic to others, Akhil says he has found his calling and inner peace. I was raised with all the comfort that one can ask for, but even in the midst of having everything, I realized that, in reality, I had nothing. The shallowness of the most vibrant materialistic pleasures stood as a stark truth in my face. It is these luxuries that make us forget who we are and consume our entire lives. It is an unending race towards futility," said Akhil.

Our Educational system is pointless, driverless, aimless, worthless and meaningless. Institutes of excellance requires students who are very strong in fundamentals of core subjects and an attitude towards self study and debate, discuss and evolve over their subjects. Nowadays, due to rote learning, the students do not understand the core fundamentals of any subjects and once they enter higher level institutes, suffer from the load. One student excels only when he / she is exposed to the ambience of brilliant students and open debates and discussions on all subjects which is missing in our colleges. There is no caste discrimination inside the institutes like IITs. All the students behave well. It is the politics and politicians who wish to enter this field also and malign the students for their own advantage, corrupt any and all institutions for their own benefits.

hi

i agreed....so religion fills the vaccum....many students follow nithya's way...search for some kind mental peace/satisfaction....

we are more materalistic in many ways.....many times parents are also culprits and the whole society in nature...

Its just stress that one finds religion as a form as escapism and run to Himalayas or anywhere else.

Even when I started Internship the work hours were so long and dealing with others was so hard that I felt like running away and hiding in some tree in a jungle.

Parents / Teachers should help the wards to build up mental strength to hop over the hurdles and get over the stress, as these are all only temporary as like passing clouds.

Yes, I am in agreement with both Shri Yesmohan & Shri tbs - who have analysed the exact root cause of the problem. Youngsters, unable to cope up with the pressure to perform take some extreme steps. Our curriculum should have a variety of subjects and our ancient wisdom can help here. Yoga, Music, Reading and subjects such as Puranas, Life history of eminent persons, classes on stress management, Humour club etc. are definitely good remedies. I have seen students who study in BITS, Pilani - Rajasthan (hailing from all the states in India) cope up very well and truly successful in heading many institutions are leaders. (The pride is most of the Chairmen of the Governing council are from Tamil Nadu and most of them are Brahmins !)
