No this is not a bad word, or a cruel joke on you if you are trying to pronounce it .
It really is the name of a Railway Station in Wales ! .
So, the Brits couldn't have been averse to long tongue-twister names.

PS: Our own " Ventakanarasimharajuvaripeta " - longest station name on the Indian Railways stands
no chance . [ Arkonam-Renigunta section on the Chennai - Tirupati route ]

Just to add..this SamAsah =SMS is not "coined" by me.
I had actually read this long back in 2007 when I was doing Sanskrit lessons downloaded from Chitrapur Math website.
I know the word meaning 'to put it in nut shell' (am I correct?)
but did not get the brainwave to connect it with the English SMS!!!

You know out here I love the Malay sales girls..they still call me Miss when I go to buy stuff from their stores..but an Indian girl sales girl out here will call any women young or old Aunty!LOL
Malays girls are smart girls..they know sales tactics but Indians here still have a long way to go.
But shopping in India is fine cos they call all females Madam..so age is not dragged into the picture..no aunty or akka or maami.

smeared onto her lips, stepped into the same sweet shop. We thought she was an ultra modern ma'am till she ordered,

It's simple - only the Husband, Father, Mother, Siblings and a very close circle of friends and relatives
call a lady by her first name. Every body else is expected to maintain the decorum. Cross limits and
there could be big trouble.
But that's pretty easy to follow - I've addressed just about any/every lady 'Didi '/ 'Behanji' / 'Akka' /'Amma -
depending on which part of India I'm in. In Gujarat, everybody is a Bhai or Behan - in daily usage and pretty
much the same in Mumbai too.
