Indian Scriptures Mention Gravity 1500 Years Before Isaac Newton: Former ISRO Chief G Madhavan Nair

"As a scientist, I would say that the computations evolved those days were really fantastic. The Vedanga Jyotisa (one of the earliest books on astronomy) is one of the texts, which is evolved in 1400 BC... this is all recorded," he said.

"These are the fundamental findings which the Western world did not have any knowledge of. The only drawback was this information was condensed to bullet form and the modern science does not accept this. And to read the Vedas, one must also know Sanskrit," Mr Nair added.

"The Vedas had a lot of information in the field of space and atomic energy. We were fine until 600 BC. Then came the time of invasions till Independence. Since then, we are growing. We deciphered the atoms for peaceful use," Mr Nair said.

While serving in ISRO, Mr Nair had made significant contributions to the development of multi-stage satellite launch vehicles.

The former ISRO chief may very well have joined the "hindutva brigade", as per the opinion of some of the members in this forum !

I know this post#1 is directed towards me even though I am not named.
If agenda is to "spread Hindutva" and not discuss science, you already have the cart before the horse.
There are theories in science some of which gets proven and some fails. That is the nature of science, and scientific mind is always ready to question any theory.
But it is zealots who can not accept question and would like their foolishness to be accepted as Gospel. Sorry I do not fit that mold
, may be in your world (fantasy land) your word is golden.

What is 'Hindutva Brigade' by the way? I come across this term frequently in this forum.

Taking pride in one's country of birth, one's culture and one's religion is natural to most people, but they are all not fundamentalists. Calling others' way of living, their religion, culture as false and disrespecting them is only the nature of fundamentalism. I do not believe many folks in this forum are fundamentalists. :)

This is a well known fact..I have read a Sanskrit book which has quoted all these ranging from Gravity to Eclipses..there was also an Upanishadic text which stated the exact cause of an eclipse which mentioned about the position of the sun, earth and moon and the best part it ended with a note that read "only the ignorant think that the moon is swallowed by a serpent demon during the eclipse"

So the whole Rahu swallowing the moon itself is debunked in that shloka..I read it long back cant remember which Upanishad.

Jrji,
You are late to the party.
There is difference between Hindu and Hindutva. Please do not confuse Hindutva to mean all Hindus. It is just like ISIS does not represent all Muslims.

Hindutva ideology as a euphemistic effort to conceal communal beliefs and practices. Many Indian social scientists have described the Hindutva movement as fascist in classical sense, in its ideology and class support specially targeting the concept of homogenised majority and cultural hegemony.

Many proponents of the Hindutva ideology portray violence against Muslims and Christians as a form of "self-defence" against "invaders". As the Hindutva ideology has grown more powerful over the years, many Hindutva activists have partaken in riots against minority communities in India. The Hindutva ideology is described as a fascist ideology.Although this ideology is associated with Hinduism, majority of Hindus who are tolerant or "secular" do not support the Hindutva movement. Some tolerant or "secular" Hindus describe the supporters of the Hindutva movement as "Hindu Taliban".

Kabir Dasji says:
(Kanak Kanak te so guni maadakta adhikaye, ik khay bauraat hai, ik paaye bauraay) (Kanak-Gold is hundred times more intoxication than the other Kanak-Opium. One makes crazy on consumption, other makes crazy on possession.) Wealth or effect of having money is no less than and is in fact many times worse and powerful than drugs. While one has to consume, take or shoot drugs in order to go crazy, mere possession of wealth crazes and stupefies the mind. A man with enormous wealth is a powerful tyrant who has utter disregard and contempt for others. As has been said, 'Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.'

Madam there are certain individuals who are prone to disorientation and lack of coherency, and a general disability to think logically. Some of them frequently use this term "HB" and oppose it as they feel that it gives them the guise of a free-thinking mind.

Taking pride in one's country of birth, one's culture and one's religion is natural to most people, but they are all not fundamentalists. Calling others' way of living, their religion, culture as false and disrespecting them is only the nature of fundamentalism. I do not believe many folks in this forum are fundamentalists. :)

It is quite interesting that you use the word "fundamentalism" as it would mean that adherents of inerrancy of the scriptures, of any religion, would be covered under this term.

w.r.t post #2.

Please do not attempt to give a lecture on science and critical thinking to me. I know you cannot identify sarcasm, let alone understand it.

Going by what you emit here, I think you use this site as a cathartic. I sincerely hope that it helps you.

Prasad ji,

I am not arguing with you, Sir, but I thought of presenting my following thoughts on Hindutva-ism:

I think of the following factors to be contributing to Hindutva-ism :-

1. History of proselytization, ongoing forced or bribed conversions, vandalism and violence on Hindus, border conflicts and wars, etc, have long been in the psyche of Hindus that most of them have taken on a negative view (and suspicion) on practitioners of Abrahamic religions -- a reaction with cause.

2. That reason #1 has led to the 2nd reasoning that afterall in the whole world, India is the one and only nation left for practitioners of Hinduism to come and be together as 'one nation' to practice this religion!

I believe the above 2 factors cloud the mentality of so-called Hindutva members, and honestly anyone from any nation, when in same situation, may likely feel the same!

@Auh ji, I chose the word 'fundamentalism' because it shows a form of 'exclusiveness', I stand corrected to know it means someone believes in inerrancy of scriptures.

RSS & VHP started the Hindutrva Brigade in 9000 BC
