This is one of the posts without your usual "punch" and reflect how we really feel inside.
I used the g-word not to insult, but just as a counter. I am not jealous or something, but its a obvious tendency to show ourselves as more patriotic , since we live in India, than who live abroad. Otherwise I am not super patriotic and all . My unflinching faith in India is because of the "Paritranaya Sadhunam" sloka , which i recite every day. I believe we will be guarded by divine powers, despite any threats. As Hindus, we fought and will fight any one with divine support ( the unknown as Renuka madam says ) .
My story was different, i did not have a friend circle. Many desis have it , atleast during their time in US . They go for tour, potluck, temples for the sole reason of saving some bucks. I also was part of it briefly. 5 families went to the NY, NJ, DC side. 2 of us were recently married that time, yet in the hotel, 3 men stayed in one room and their wives stayed in another room. LOL.
The return part was frustrating . I drove my rental car back to the airport, dropped it off and came back and boarded the flight to India. And i still do not what it takes to make good friendships, even though i remain respectful and humble to others.
The other reason for faith is that, I nearly lost my job at HOuston and fled to Cincy. It was like moving from Bangalore to Ambur. Cincy was symbolic of the poor man s America. At that point, i felt better to go back live with relatives back home, than being deserted . It was purely my choice. NOt that i dont want to go back now, opportunities are becoming harder through the current company where i work .
The best way to get something we badly want is to forget about it. If you badly want to be abroad, just be neutral and unaffected and stop trying to go abroad. Keep doing your job mechanically, unfeelingly. Keep the mind completely blank. Then, opportunities will come your way automatically. The best way to get something is to do nothing about it.
When I'm badly stuck at work at times, I just shut down the laptop. Some solution automatically emerges when the mind is not preoccupied. I know this sounds weird but trust me, it works very well. If you stop wanting something, you get exactly that which you don't want, because your 'faith' knows it is what you *exactly* want and you ultimately attain it..
