here is the blog by vaa. manikandan that inspired me to post this message. i am also copying it here in full, along with the email/address of those in central govt whose help we need to free a young plucky journalist.

i have sent my email. i appeal to our members, if they feel that journalistic freedom is important, and even more, the persecution of tamils is documented and brought to light, where sri lanka is concerned. thank you.

mani's this blog gives some additional background and reasons why we should all appeal. thanks again.

Dear Sir,

Mr.Ma ka.Tamil Prabakaran was a student reporter in Vikatan group of publications in the year 2011-2012. He was selected as the best student reporter in his batch. After completing his training in Vikatan group of publications, he has been working as a free lancer for Vikatan group of magazines and various other news portals.

Mr.Ma ka Tamil Prabakaran had visited Sri Lanka in the year 2012 and wrote a series about the plight of the Lankan Tamils in the Tamil bi-weekly Junior Vikatan, which was subsequently published as a book. Mr.Maha Tamil Prabakaran went to Sri Lankan on a tourist visa and he was taken around the area of Tamils at Kilinochi by Mr.Sridharan, Member of Parliament and Mr.Pasupathi Pillai, an elected member of Northern Provincial Council.

At a time when they were visiting Valaipedu Village in Kilinochi District, they were intercepted by the Sri Lankan Army and all of them were taken into custody. While Sridharan and Pasupathi Pillai were released by the army, Mr.Maha Tamil Prabakaran has been detained by the army and according to media reports, he is being interrogated at the Sri Lankan Terrorist Crime Prevention Center at Colombo.

I request you to kindly intervene in this matter through diplomatic sources and ensure the release of Mr.Ma.ka Tamil Prabakaran safely.

Sincerely

I have sent the letter and also copies to [email protected] and [email protected] which will reach the editorial team of ananda vikatan and junior vikatan

thank you vgane.

the general response in indian media, is that prabakaran, going as a tourist, had no business trying to gather stories.

but journalism is a unique profession where the stories are more important than many a times the means. P was not working in sri lanka earning local money. the plight of the tamils is very bad and we outside, cannot even imagine what it is to live in a police state.

P is a youngster barely 22. and chances are he has been beaten up and tortured. the indian embassy and govt, which created so much noise for devyani kho, should pull in the same weight against sri lanka. shame if they dont.

there is no dignity to any tamil. anyone mostly young males, are simply caught and carried away, tortured and disappear. still. the tamil and indian politicians are useless.

we know that the sri lankan army won a brutal war. but what we have now, is an unforgiven and revengeful victor.

on the other hand, to balance out,i just completed, 'the tamil tigress' by niromi de soyza. it is the adventures of a female tiger soldier, who somehow managed to escape to australia, and now leads a normal life with husband and family. her narration is gripping, particularly the way in the early days, when ltte (velupillai prabhakaran) finished off all his competitors for the revolution (telo, plote among others).

overall, i am forced to think, that gandhian way is probably the best way to acheive revolutionary goals. i am very humbled at the power gandhi wielded. with no guns.

freed and deported..safe in chennai.

thanks to all those who emailed their support. prabhakaran is now safe in chennai. deported but in one piece. more details here.
