Maggi samples being tested, report in 2-3 days; stars endorsing may face action:

1 Jun, 2015,

NEW DELHI: Widening its probe into alleged lapses of food safety standards in Maggi noodles, the government today said it is testing samples from all states and strict action will be taken for any violation, including against brand ambassadors of the famous brand of Nestle.

The tests are being done by the central food safety regulator FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) and the reports are expected to come in the next 2-3 days.

A case has been lodged against Nestle IndiaBSE -2.70 % by UP food regulator FSDA in a local court at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh over safety standards of its product Maggi, while actors Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinta were also separately dragged to court for promoting the 'two-minute' noodles brand.

"In case of Maggi, we have gathered information. UP Food department has investigated and they have found monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead. Now, FSSAI has taken up the issue. It will take the action," Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said here at a press conference organised to highlight the one-year achievements of the ministry.

Nestle has maintained that it does not agree with the UP food regulator's order and it "is filing the requisite representations with the authorities".

Elaborating on the issue, Consumer Affairs Additional Secretary G Gurucharan said: "FSSAI has taken samples from every state. Testing is going on. Not only MSG and lead, all other parameters are being tested."

Maggie has two parts - the noodles and tastemaker sachet; the additives will be in the tastemaker, there are so many, and perhaps subcontracted. Better to wait till a clear picture emerges. Like the coke, cadbury chocolate controversy, this too may die down, without anybody getting wiser. There is a new complaint - nestle milk powder contained larva, worms.

Only kerala minister has been honest so far. He said - we have not tested maggi; based on media reports we have temporarily withdrawn sale of maggi from government outlets.
Normally the media gets a photocopy of the test report, even autopsy reports in a jiffy. No lab test report on maggi has surfaced till now.

True no body will become wiser but some people will become richer by engineering this controversy and threatening these Companies and will demand some money from them before allowing these controversy to die down . However a proper testing must be done in some reputed labs and the result must be shared .Need to wait for the final report on this issue .

I too feel strongly that the problem is likely due to low standards being followed by the sub contracted companies but then the onus is on Maggie to see to it that the sub contracted companies follow the standards specified on a routine basis .

Delhi Government is summoning the Nestle officials today as majority of samples had higher lead content...How come an MNC has flouted the rules?

Digvijay singh, tags, brinda karat why all communists, Congress, and human rights activists are silent and quiet. Quite different when all shouted feverishly when baba ramdev was falsely accused.

Might be because the food inspectors were not vigilant enough to maintain strict quality control or were getting regularly bribed . Anyway right now more noise than actual facts being out in the open .Might be in couple of weeks this matter will get settled . A similar controversy arose with Coke ( pesticides in coke ) , Cadburys ( worms in cadburys ) in the past and now it is the turn of Maggie . Have to wait and watch .

Delhi bans Maggi for 15 days, while Gujarat also bans for 1 month...What will happen to the existing stock...Hope they are not recycled in new packing...The Government should ensure that all old stock are destroyed..Nestle should accept the poor quality and give a new cut off date when the fresh produce will be free of the harmful chemicals...Otherwise everything will be viewed as hogwash

Maggi row: Modi steps in

New Delhi, Jun 5: On a day when Nestle announced withdrawal of Maggi noodles from its stores across India, the company's global CEO Paul Bulcke said, 'Maggi noodles are safe for consumption.'

Meanwhile, in one of the biggest developments in the controversy surrounding Maggi noodles, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) today summoned the Health Secretary to take stock of the situation. The move comes just hours after Nestle India withdrew Maggi from markets following a controversy over its contents.

Addressing a press conference here, Paul Bulcke said, 'Maggi noodles has been trusted in India for over thirty years. We do not add mono-sodium glutamate but some ingredients sourced for Maggi may have had it.'

He said that they did not have data from any kind of their part tests conducted on Maggi. 'Maggi adheres to same quality standards in India and across the world and there was no lead found in the 1,000 Maggi batches tested internally,' said Bulcke.
