To be fair, the Times of India has dedicated one full page for the coverage in the delhi edition, inspite of him being unknown among the locals.

Neither vidwat,nor fame nor.name nor affection which an artist has earned in his life time is going to increase by the issuance of condolence message or decrease by non issuance formal condolence messages by the whimsical politicians after the demise of the artist, Let us not attach much importance to the messages of the politicians.

I think, The Hindu also covered the news in the second page, while the death news of Lalgudi and MSG was in the first page.

I attended the function at Pethachi Auditorium. Nalli was the chief guest. On the same day, stamp was released for some other Hindustani classical musicians like Kumar Gandharv, Kangubhai Hangal, Ravishankar etc.

I was talking about condolence message and not release of stamp.

My point is the attitude of local as well as Central politicians. They are not very consistent. They go with the individual's background.

Such attitudes also reflect in Padma awards also. MS was given Bharat Ratna; whereas DKP got Padma Vibhushan and MLV got Padma Bhushan. In what way MS was superior to others nobody knows. MK, it seems, was very active for MS to get that award. Even in the case Mandolin Srinivas, he got Padma Sri award at a very young age.

Dadasahebbalkhe award was given to Nageswara Rao much before Sivaji. This was happened during P V Narasimha's Rao time. During the presentation ceremony Nageswara Rao was sitting in the dias; whereas Sivaji was sitting with the audience, when he received the award.

One thing is very sure; Telugu speaking people are very co-operative; whether it is music, religion, temple etc. Tirupathi, Sai Baba, M Balamuralikrishna etc. are some of the examples. Tamil Nadu terribly lacks in this respect and extremely biased.

மாண்டலின் ஸ்ரீனிவாஸின் வீட்டினுள்ளே நுழைந்தவுடன், நம் கண்களில் தென்படுவது கையை உயர்த்தி ஆசிர்வதிக்கும் பிரம்மாண்டமான சத்ய சாயியின் புகைப்படம். இடது பக்க சுவரில் காஞ்சி பரமாச்சாரியாரின் பெரிய புகைப்படம். அப்படியே மாடிக்குச் சென்றால் ஹால் முழுக்க தெய்வத்திரு உருவங்கள்; தவிர, அவருக்கு வழங்கப்பட்ட நினைவுப் பரிசுகள், பல்வேறு விருதுகளின்போது எடுக்கப்பட்ட புகைப்படங்கள், இப்படி நிறைய.

விசாலமான பூஜை அறையில், சுவரில் நடுநாயகமாக பாபா புகைப்படம். அதன் அருகில் தேக்கு மரத்தில் செய்த நாற்காலி. அதில் குஷன். பட்டையான ஜரிகை கொண்ட வேஷ்டி, அங்கவஸ்திரம் சாத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. பாபா இந்த நாற்காலியில் அமர்ந்து எனக்கு எப்போதும் ஆசி வழங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பதாக நான் நம்புகிறேன்” என்ற ஸ்ரீனிவாஸ் தொடர்ந்து பேசினார். தன் கையை முன்னே நீட்டி, “இந்த நவரத்ன மோதிரம், பாபா கொடுத்த பரிசு. புட்ட பர்த்தியில் பாபா முன்னிலையில் ஒரு முறை கச்சேரி செய்யும் பாக்கியம் கிடைத்தது. கச்சேரி முடிந்ததும், என்னை ஆசிர்வதித்த பாபா, இந்த மோதிரத்தை வரவழைத்து, எனக்குக் கொடுத்தார். அது மட்டுமில்லை; என்னுடன் சேர்ந்து அன்றைக்கு கச்சேரி செய்த என் தம்பி ராஜேஷை பார்த்து புன்னகை புரிந்து, ‘உனக்கும் ஒண்ணு வேணுமா?’ என்பது போல ஒரு பார்வை பார்த்து, எனக்கு அளித்த மோதிரத்தைத் தொட்டுவிட்டு, தன் கையை விரித்தார். அவர் கையில் இன்னொரு நவரத்ன மோதிரம். அந்த அதிசயத்தை என்னால் ஆயுசுக்கும் மறக்க முடியாது.

பரமாச்சாரியாரும், பாபாவும் எனக்கு இரண்டு கண்கள் மாதிரி. அப்போது எனக்கு பதினாறு, பதினேழு வயசு இருக்கும். காஞ்சிபுரம் போயிருந்தோம். நான் எப்போது மடத்துக்குப் போனாலும், கையோடு மாண்டலினை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போய், பரமாச்சாரியார் முன்னால் அமர்ந்து கொஞ்சநேரம் வாசிப்பது வழக்கம். அன்றைக்கும் வாசித்தேன். என் பக்கத்தில் என்னுடைய தம்பி உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான். அவனுக்கு அப்போது பத்து வயசு இருக்கும், அவனும் மாண்டலின் கற்றுக்கொள்ள ஆரம்பித்து, கொஞ்ச நாள் ஆகி இருந்தது. நான் வாசித்து முடித்ததும், என் பக்கத்தில் இருந்த ராஜேஷைக் காட்டி ‘இது யார்?’ என்று கேட்டார். ‘தம்பி’ என்றேன். ‘அவனுக்கு வாசிக்கத் தெரியுமா?’ என்றதும். ‘இப்பதான் கத்துக்கறான்’ என்றேன். ‘அவன்கிட்டே மாண்டலினைக் கொடு; வாசிக்கட்டும்’ என்றார். அவன் வாசிக்க, அவனையும் ஆசிர்வதித்தார்.

பரமாச்சாரியார் தஞ்சாவூர் ஓவியத்தைப் பார்த்தீர்களே? அது ரொம்ப அபூர்வமான ஒன்று. பிரபாகர் என்பவர் ஒருமுறை திருமண பத்திரிகை கொடுக்க வந்தபோது, இங்கே இருந்த ஏராளமான பரமாச்சாரியார் படங்களைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு, அடுத்த சில மாதங்களில் பரமாச்சாரியாரின் தஞ்சாவூர் ஓவியம் ஒன்றை ஒரு வியாழக்கிழமையன்று காலையில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு வந்து கொடுத்து, சந்தோஷத்தில் திக்குமுக்காட வைத்துவிட்டார்.

திருப்பதி வெங்கடேச பெருமாள் மேல் எனக்கு ரொம்ப பக்தி உண்டு. நாம எப்போ நினைக்கிறோமோ அப்போ எல்லாம் திருப்பதிக்கு போயிட முடியாது; அவர் நம்மை கூப்பிட்டாத்தான் போக முடியும் என்பது என் ஆழமான நம்பிக்கை. பல வருடங்களாக திருப்பதியில் பிரம்மோத்சவம் நடக்கிறபோது, என்னை அங்கே கச்சேரி செய்யக் கூப்பிடுவார்கள். கச்சேரி முடிந்தவுடன், என்னையும், என் சக கலைஞர்களையும் நேரே சன்னதிக்கு அழைத்துக் கொண்டுபோய், தரிசனம் செய்துவைப்பார்கள். அப்படி ஒருமுறை கச்சேரி முடிந்து, தரிசனத்துக்குப் புறப்பட்டபோது, ‘நமக்குதான் ஸ்பெஷல் தரிசனமாச்சே! பத்து நிமிஷத்தில் தரிசனம் பண்ணிடலாம்’ என்று சொன்னார் சக கலைஞர். ஆனால், கோயிலை அடைந்தபோது பிரம்மோற்சவ மக்கள் கூட்டத்தில் நாங்கள் சிக்கிக்கொள்ள, நான்கு மணி நேரம் காத்திருந்து, தரிசனம் செய்யும்படியானது. அது பெருமாள் வைத்த குட்டு என்று புரிந்தது.

பெருமாளுக்கு திருப்பதி என்றால், வினாயகருக்கு பிள்ளையார்பட்டி. பிள்ளையார்பட்டி கோயில் நிர்வாகத்தினர் என்னை கோயிலின் ஆஸ்தான வித்வானாக்கி கௌரவித்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆண்டு தோறும் வினாயகர் சதுர்த்தியன்று அங்கே கச்சேரி செய்வது பழக்கம். வருடந்தோறும், ஒரு மூன்று நாட்கள் கும்பகோணம், தஞ்சாவூர் பகுதிகளில் இருக்கும் கோயில்களுக்குச் சென்று, அவற்றின் கலையழகை ரசிப்பதோடு, சுவாமி தரிசனமும் செய்வது மன அமைதியையும், ஆத்ம திருப்தியையும் அளிக்கிறது.

It is not a strange phenomenon. Most of Carnatic Musicians are thriving only in Tamil Nadu, since 80% of the concerts are only happening here. Popular musicians from Palghat are living here only and very well financially, including the Late Chembai. In the other Southern States, programs are being organized during festivals and not regularly. In Chennai, daily you can come across a concert.

Regarding recognition, noted playback singer late P B Sreenivas, who, I think, belonged to AP, was not considered for any award at all.

Without Tamil Nadu, the livelihood of Carnatic Musicians will be precarious, but performance is mostly in Telugu or Sanskrit only. That is Tamil Nadu.

Madam,

Why are you taking it a fight? It shows your fighting attitude. I am only pointing out the mistakes. This is the time to expose such lapses and pro and anti feeling attitude of TN politicians.

Another surprise is CPI (M) in TN condoled the death of Mandolin Srinivas.

Every rendering by him was a master piece.

I feel sad that this man has died so young.

I wont say RIP because it is an alien expression to me. It involves waiting for the day of judgment and the final salvation.

I would rather say, Srinivas if you are already with God in Vaikuntam, I will bring your Mandolin when I come there eventually. If you are reborn, please reveal yourself to me I will present you a mandolin. I miss your music very badly.
