i liked him for his effaciveness and understated performance.

as with many tamil film folks, he was also highly politicized, and moved along the spectrum, with the changing tides. when he died he ended up with the tamil nationalism folks, more as an offshoot of tamil eelam tragedy.

i did not agree with his politics, but that did not prevent me from liking him as a person, or hearing his speeches or viewing his acting performances.

tellingly, along with no religious rites, his body is draped in the tigers flag before cremation. oh well!!

I'm really surprised hes passed on. This year many musicians and artistes have passed away :( and theres still 6 months more to go!

espradeep blogspot

this would have been a hilarious blog posting, had it not been a view of the 'mourners' attending manivannan's viewing. the craze re cinema world..and the behaviour shown, not fitting for visiting a death house.

here's couple of excerpts...

... and i loved the conclusion..

thank you mr pradeep for such a wonderful observation. i pray with you. may manivannan's soul rest in peace.

Manivannan portrayed the next door neighbour effortlessly...I like his tone, colloquial slang and his facial expressions ..He added color to Tamil Cinema

My heartfelt condolences.
I enjoyed Manivannan as a comedian than a character actor. I feel sorry that this good actor has died at an young age of 59.

Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

May Thiru. Manivannan's soul rest in peace. :pray2:

what to do raji?

hi
kovai district produced many great ppl in tamil cinmea....manivannan also belong to sulur, kovai.....

what to do raji?
I think probably nothing! Tambram girls who were leaning Carnatic classical to sing in praise of God are learning film songs

to appear on stages of various T V channels! MAmis go about dancing with their big bellies and take pride for appearing on TV.

Some want to hug and kiss the cine stars!! I don't think this mentality will ever change! :(

Manivannan as a Director, directed very many good movies with the theme of politics and crime. He along with actor Satyaraj really turned out to be a good combination.

Finally he ended as an actor and really devliered good performance in very many movies. Even though he was not openly a believer of God, let us Pray God for peaceful rest of his soul.

Dear Sri tbs,

Oh. Yes. Though I got settled in Bangalore my roots are in Coimbatore, where I was born and bred-up. My mother belongs to Coimbatore (with initials C). When ever some one mentions Kovai I become nostalgic. I have written about the Coimbatore that I know under the head "Down Memory Lane - My Coimbatore " in my Blog "Sapere Aude", Great Coimbatore Thayi, Palladam Sanjjeva Rao (Flautist), Coimbatore Ramaswami (Mruthangam), Perur Subrahmanya Dhikshadar (Harmonium Wizard) Palladam Venkataramana Rao (Harmonium) and Pithukkuli Murugadas belong to our District. In the Cinema field T.S.Balaiah, Nagesh, S.V.Sahasranamam, C.T.Rajakantham, Sivakumar, his sons Surya and Karthi, Sathyaraj, now Manivannan all from Coimbatore District.
The weblink of my Blog is given below

There is no comparison of the climate of Kovai with Chennai..Very salubrious weather..It is moderate compared to the sultry conditions at Chennai...Envy the people of Coimbatore!

Even though I was born at Palani, I enjoyed my stay at Coimbatore during my student days in the years 1964 to 1969 at Government College of Technology and PSG college of Technology. The beautiful botanical gardens adjacent to GCT was my favorite place for preparing for my exams and the India Coffee House at DB Road in RS puram was the place to chill out in the evenings with my favorite film songs in the jukebox. For my weekly jaunts to my native place to spend time with my parents I used to hop on to GD Naidu's bus which was the only direct bus service to Palani at that time.
I used to frequent the Woodlands hotel near Govt.Arts College while I was in PSG Tech.for my dinner for the sake of unlimited mini puris served before the main course.
