Not appropriate! Saddened by his remarks! Where is karma coming here??

[h=1]Microsoft chief rubs off women the wrong way[/h]

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella triggered uproar on Thursday after suggesting working women should trust "karma" when it comes to securing pay raises.

Nadella was speaking during an on-stage discussion at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference in Arizona, when he made the remarks.

Asked about advice for women interested in advancing careers but uncomfortable asking for pay increases, Nadella was quoted as responding they should just trust "that the system will actually give you the right raises as you go along."

He reportedly went on to contend that women who don't ask for pay raises have a "superpower" in the form of "good karma, that'll come back."

Moderator Maria Klawe, a college president and a member of Microsoft's board of directors, pointedly disagreed with Nadella, triggering applause from the audience.

Studies have consistently shown women get paid less than men doing the same jobs.

Klawe advised women listening to "do your homework" to make sure their pay is on par with that of male counterparts.
Nadella later scrambled to damp down the controversy in a response on Twitter.

"Was inarticulate re how women should ask for a raise," Nadella said in a message fired off at his @satyanadella Twitter account.

Out here the pay scale for a job is stated right away and how it increases depends on the performance of the worker.

Some companies fix a steady increase yearly.

Its not based on gender of person.

I dont want to sound anti women but one has to take into account the set back when one hires a woman too..becos when she is pregnant..she is frequently absent too when she has pregnancy related problems and in a 60 day maternity leave one might actually have to hire another staff just temporary to fill in the place or make the other staff do more overtime..it increases the cost of the employer.

Believe me I see so many pregnant females who just dont turn up to work with the slightest of excuse and want sick leave. For 1 pregnancy its 60 days maternity leave and in that nine months almost 18 -20 days of being absent from work using pregnancy as an excuse. Total about 80 days not being at work! That is not inclusive of annual leave yet!

Also I see many woman faking illness when their husbands are having day off..they fake ilnesses to get a sick leave from doctor so that they can be at home when their husband is on leave.

I have seen all these tricks females play. Some cite painful menses and be absent from work every month while having menses. They know they can prevent this pain by popping a pill and then going to work,.,but they wont do that..they will want a sick leave..so 12 days a year just being absent becos of menses!

Then post pregnancy...if child is sick they also dont turn up(this is understandable)..but when we take into account the potential days of being absent from work...May be that is why some companies pay men more I guess.

When it comes to business sentiments should not rule..one should know what bring maximum profit and what will not.

discrimination at workplace on basis of gender is unacceptable'

to quote karma to women looking for pay rises shows a certain mindset not expected from an indian top executive of a MNC

regarding renukajis post one does not condemn all women if some women take sick or any other type of leave on some pretext

many men also do the same.would we condemn all men and penalise all men?

when women balance home and office sometimes these things happen.

women need not unduly bother about such things.

a doctor might be irritated to give a medical certificate to some undeserving working women'

employers should not use gender related issues to deny women their legitimate role in the work place if they claim to be equal oppurtunities employer'

I have written elsewhere how my govt company preferred employing women as instrumentation engrs as men quit their jobs frequently since they could get better jobs in

gulf . it depends on who is best suitable taking all facts into consideration

When leave taken and absence without leave by men who suffer hangovers after binge drinking, by men who suffer due to substance abuse, men who just while away their time in sipping a cup of tea for a good half an hour during working hour, men who spend office time for union work wasting resources like phones, printers, email service provided in the office etc., the leave taken by women is just nothing.

Women take leave only when there is a real need like during pregnancy. The society owes it to women because they suffer maximum during pregnancy and child birth. Any considerate award of leave for 3 months (not 2 months which is unreasonable) to every pregnant women will be just appropriate.

And the surreptitious exploitation which goes on in the name of "completing the task given before leaving" is not taken into account here. It should be paid for.

dear Krish ji,

But there is something called "conditioning" an employee..that is hire them young and unmarried and let them work with you and even after a few years when they get married they do not pose a problem becos they know you well enough as to not simply be absent. So for them we can gladly let them enjoy all benefits becos they work well for you.

But from my experience if you hire a married woman right away..they always use all sorts of excuses to be absent from work.

women joining the workforce after staying home for a few years before or after getting married pose a different set of issues.

basically many times it becomes an economic necessityfor them if they are from lower middle class . as such they have not become office workers as a matter of choice but

as an economic compulsion

I have seen many times women in thirtees widowed getting forced into taking up jobs. they are given jobs based on compassionate grounds when their husbands pass

away at young age

In my govt company. some who got employed this way became liabilities for the company.they could not be utilised by the company for the job they were taken in

It decided to pay only heavy money compensation and not give employment to them.

In india there is a very bad convention that many juniors in lower ranks are forced to stay in office to service their seniors in case they stay late without compensation'

infact they are made to wait even if their is nothing to do since the boss is around.

some seniors like to stay away from their home in office in evenings for reasons known only to them .

it makes juniors fret and fume .

well this is indian work culture.

Our top executive had a way of havings meetings only after 5 pm everyday . the meetings could stretch upto 9 or thereabouts.

other senior executives used to dread those meetings.

not only that , any who try skipping them going early, he would send a vehicle to their homes to bring them to office for a late evening meeting.lol
