There are high expectations all across from PM Narendra Modi's 5 day visit to US beginning today...

US is rolling out a red carpet welcome for the leader of world's largest democracy...

There is palpable excitement in the air..

There is euphoria among the people of Indian origin in US..

There is a Modi buzz everywhere with comparisons being made with Swami Vivekananda and Sardar Patel...

However Modi will be judged of the success of this momentous trip based on only the outcomes...

I am sure his officialdom will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the trip is successful!!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a packed schedule during his Sep 26-30 visit to the US.

Here's Prime Minister Modi's complete itinerary:

September 26: Arrives in New York, stays at New York Palace Hotel; Mayor Bill de Blasio calls on Narendra Modi. Meets Nobel Prize-winning scientist Harold Eliot Varmus, director of the National Cancer Institute.

There will always be some distracting elements. - Let the dogs bark! They are harmless
==============================================================================

A federal court on Thursday issued summons to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a civil action complaint filed against him by a human rights group over Gujarat riots of 2002.
The court directs the Prime Minister to file a reply with 30 days of the summons being served on him, which may never happen, according to US and Indian officials.
“We are aware of the lawsuit,” said a senior administration official in a news briefing prevewing the prime minister’s coming meetings with President Barack Obama.

But “we will not be distracted by it,” the official added.
Besides, it was pointed out, heads of state and government traveling to the US are covered by immunity from local legal action while in office. These notices and summon were also not “serviceable” during their visit.
And all of the above apply to heads of delegations to the UN.
The lawsuit has been filed by a rights group called American Justice Center, formed recently, it said, to “provide legal aid to victims of mass violence who have been deprived of legal options to justice due to fear of retaliation”.
“The founders of AJC have known the victim community and have seen their suffering in the aftermath of the Gujarat 2002 massacres,” the organization added in a response to a request for more details about the suit, the complaints and the organization.

Modis address to american indian community in Madison square garden in newyork was an event with an estimated expense of $1.5 million with rental of $ 500,000.

I sincerely hope Indian taxpayer had nothing to do with it

He was promising like santaclaus, PIO/OCI card holder life time visas besides waiver to report to police stations. He covered non indian wives of american indians for easy visas.

he tried copying martin luther king jr s " I have a dream' speech with promise of house for every indian by 2022.address the home constituency on indian subcontinent

He also boasted of indian achievement in cheap space mission and demographic advantage of indian population.

the organisers roped in more than 40 US congress men for the event , besides a quite a few indian american muslims in white with skull caps in special enclosure .

music of Kavitha subramaniam and L subramaniam - vaisnav janatho in fushion style was a disaster makinfg one squirm in his seat . the dances with good music were

good . some bunglings with american anthem sung twice and delay in modi entry made one fully believe that it was only an indian event

Perhaps you know what happened to rajdeep sardesai of india tv group when he sought the views of ordinary indian americans.

about Remarks of Swaminathan S iyer on Modi meeting American CEOs

Gist - "American CEOs will not invest In india if Modi has breakfasts with them and shakes a few hands

They will only if the business climate is investor friendly"

If there is uncertainty in laws , retrospective taxation, cancelling of allocations of spectrum, coal blocks after years of the event

besides outdated tax laws and regulations there is no hope for investment

first indian business should be comfortable with the the laws and existing bottlenecks and red tape to be removed

then reforms pending in parliament on GST , Insurance, pension wiyth no hope in near future

inflation, uncontrolled fiscal and CAD, unstable rupee{ it is going back to 62 per dollar], high interest rates

add to it bad monsoons , no manufacturing , where are we headed?

we have a finance and defence minister in and out of hospital and nothing is moving

a govt cannot run on dreams of one person .

foreign fellows will come to india only when they see indian businesses make money .

we can put our house in order before selling dreams abroad

The American media did not provide any meaningful coverage of Modi's visit.
Only Indians in America and in India are making a big thing out of his visit.

Some described it as a political theatre, others compared it to an election campaign rally and many more likened it to a victory lap. Call it by any name but there was no doubt that the reception hosted by Indian Americans for prime minister Narendra Modi at New York's Madison Square Gardens was a show to beat all shows.

Modi could not have asked for a better setting than New York's iconic entertainment venue to showcase his mass following in the country which had denied him a visa for nearly a decade for his alleged role in the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat.

Living up to his image of a rockstar, Modi delivered his best-ever performance which was lapped up by his frenzied fans, who just could not get enough of him. The 18,000-strong crowd which packed the stadium, cheered and applauded him periodically during his hour-long speech while the place resonated with chants of "Modi, Modi" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai."

Modi was clearly in his element, showing no signs of fatigue even though he is observing a nine-day fast for Navratari. He spoke in conversational style, establishing an immediate connection with the audience.

If the Madison Square Garden event was an occasion for Modi to send out an explicit message to the US administration, it was also an opportunity for the cash-rich and prosperous Indian diaspora to display their social and economic clout. The Indian American Community Foundation, chief organisers of the event, raised nearly $1.5 million from the Indian diaspora for this programme. This message could not have been lost on the two dozen US senators who were present at the event.

another interesting story on SEZ[special economic zone} for exports.

India setup many SEZs for export with no tax liability and incentive for exports to some african and backward country destinations .

some utilsed the facility for jewellery smuggling besides marketed some of their produce partly in domestic market with no taxes.

finance revenue dept moved in and slapped MAT Minimum Alternate Tax on all SEZ units .

Many in SEZ closed down finding it not renumerative,

Now again in Australia and US we are talking of export oriented units .Commerce minister And RBI governor represented India in australia and Modi in US.

commerce miny and finance miny. are at logger heads on this with no solution.

this is typical of the way we work.lol

Previous prime ministers took plane load of journalists and got limited coverage. Modi did not take even one journalist with him, but gets non stop coverage in all tv channels in india. And the media claims the visit is hyped!

The American media did not provide any meaningful coverage of Modi's visit.
Only Indians in America and in India are making a big thing out of his visit.

Indians constitute just 2 percent of american population.

Americans should have other concerns like illegal immigrants from mexico, iSIS and terror threats, american involvements in middle east or economic woes due to end of

economic stimulus end

and raising of interest rates in future.

it might be just domestic indian hype and indian americans mostly homesick wanting a bit of india in america.

who should be bothered about a few indians there?

some sada indians living in USA think they are the chosen people to lead a life of humanity, human kindness, rationalism and what not. Good to know that they are in minuscule minority.

"That happened because ordinary Indians, tired of cynical politics and cynical politicians, saw in him someone who was different. The emotions of the diaspora in New York were no different at all from the reactions I saw among ordinary people in the villages of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and in the ancient streets of Varanasi during the election campaign. They see Modi as a symbol of hope. They believe that he can make miracles happen. They believe he can walk on water.
