You have to be smart to make, use and retain money.

As formerly an IT consultant, I know how much practical smartness and the knack of dealing with people one should have to make the top dollars (rupees). Somehow I never made as much as my friends with equivalent experience and work ability did, because I am not tactful to ask for more...

Practical smartness and frugality goes a long way in real life. Some Indian NRI families, inspite of double-incomes and a combined salary exceeding $200 K/annum, still avoid purchasing veggies at the expensive Indian stores, cook only few meals/weak (as food gets wasted), do childrens' haircuts on their own, etc...).
