Nana Patekar took up farmers' issue

Nana Patekar took up farmers' issue

18-Aug-2015

Nana Patekar's is a fascinating story. He is a 'star' who would rather travel in an autorickshaw than buy a luxury car for himself, and decides to spend his hard earned money on the grieving families of farmers who have committed suicide. The actor has shown us what it takes to be a conscientious citizen by quietly practising what he doesn't even preach.

It is not often that you come across someone like Nana. While most of us on an everyday basis read the pitiful stories of farmers, who are ending their lives due to penury and poverty, and then move on, Nana decided to do something about it. He's been visiting the widows of the farmers and extending financial assistance.

18-Nana-Patekar.jpg

At the same time, he is trying to start a dialogue with the government to aid their cause. Prod him about it and he brushes it off initially. "I am not doing a big deal. All of us want to help, but most of us are not sure if the money we want to give will reach the right people. So, I decided to visit these people myself and help them," he says.

Nana has visited 112 widows in Marathwada Beed and now he plans to interact with 700 more in Nagpur, Latur, Hingoli, Parbani, Nanded, Aurangabad, Usmanabad, Jalna, Bhusawal, Jalgaon, etc. He says, "I just received a call from Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra chief minister). We have been friends before he became the CM. I can talk to him one on one. At the same time, I can go to farmers and talk to them. I am hoping my being a mediator will help."

Why the farmer's issue? "Right now, it is of utmost importance. Today, I heard someone committed suicide. If after 69 years of independence, we can't provide water and electricity to people, it is ridiculous. Now the BJP has taken over, earlier there was Congress. We need to take these things seriously. I feel it is time for a revolution. If a farmer can kill himself, tomorrow he can kill you. Look at the level of his frustration. Beware, this situation could become dangerous. Their helplessness could turn into rage, they might turn Naxalites. You are creating that kind of a situation. Just give them electricity and water, which is their basic right. Come on, they provide you bread," he states.
For someone who comes from a humble background himself, isn't he insecure of not having money when he's giving away most of what he's earned?

"Paisa is a by-product. I will get it anyway. Rs 10 crore or Rs 100 crore won't give me security. I feel secure by doing this. It is only a bandage on a huge wound. But in the process I am securing that human being that is still alive in me. Everyone will forget me if I stop acting in films. You won't come to interview me, but I know that those people (farmers) will remember me for life," he says matter-of-factly.

Ask him about certain uncomfortable changes that are taking place in the country and he simply says, "Why would I care about what they are banning? They should know that before implementing bans. Their responsibility is to provide basic things to the people. Sixty five per cent of the populace lives in villages and for them, nothing matters as long as they get basic facilities like electricity and water. Unfortunately, we have not been able to provide them even that."

H.Ramakrishnan

H.Ramakrishnan

Affected by polio at the age of two-and-a-half years, H Ramakrishnan had to battle out every step in life.

Even when he had to attend school he was denied admission to the local school and had to be taken to a different school in another town.

After he passed the UPSC exam , Ramakrishnan applie
d for the posts of newsreader, translator and reporter but he was not accepted because of his handicap. He is now the CEO of SS Music television channel and has over 40 years of experience as a journalist.

Despite having a disability of 85 percent, Ramakrishnan moved around by buses until he got a sidecar scooter.

Later on he used to drive an auto rickshaw with a hand brake, specially fitted for him by Bajaj Auto Ltd.

When he was in service a senior official had mentioned the fact that Ramakrishnan was physically disabled, in his confidential report, which made Ramakrishnan go to the then President V. V. Giri, who immediately passed an order that the fact that people are disabled must not be considered while evaluating them in their Confidential Reports.

The first person to start piece to the camera (where the reporter holds the mike and shows his face on TV) on Tamil News, H Ramakrishnan has been a great source of inspiration for many.

He has wielded the microphone for many important assignments including the launch of rockets from Sriharikota and caught politicians and VIPs like Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, President Abdul Kalam for quotes.

He was one of the first news readers of Doordarshan Chennai and was perhaps the first differently abled person to rise up to the level of Senior Administrative Grade officer in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

He has acted in a couple of Tamil films including one by name Vaaname Ellai directed by K Balachander. The film was a super hit and H Ramakrishnan's role as a disabled person, who wanted to commit suicide, made a remarkable impact on the film viewing public.

He is also a musician and has presented concerts at the prestigious Music Academy, Tyagaraja Aradhana in Thiruvaiyaru, All India Radio and other Sabhas. In recognition of this talent, he has been awarded the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu for his contributions to the art of Konnakkol.

Having a law degree to his credit Ramakrishnan practices as an advocate at the Madras High Court. He has also contributed to the columns of The Hindu, Indian Express, Dinamani, Kalki, Tuglaq and ChennaiOnline.com.

“Motivation is temporary and inspiration is permanent "

“Motivation is temporary and inspiration is permanent "

28th July 2015

CHENNAI: An unknown scholar once said, “Motivation is temporary and inspiration is permanent because motivation passes away after some time, while inspiration stays for the lifetime.” In the life of A P J Abdul Kalam too, there was a great personality who had lifted him out of despondency at the right time. From then on, Kalam’s life only soared.
The personality who changed the course of his life was none other than Rishikesh Swami Sivananda who was born at Pathamadai in Tirunelveli district, but settled in Rishikesh.
From his boyhood, Kalam was fond of flying high and wanted to become a pilot. He took up aeronautical engineering and graduated in 1957.

To realise his objective, Kalam applied to the Air Force and completed his interview at the Air Force Selection Board at Dehradun in 1958. Out of 24 applicants, eight were to be shortlisted but after four days of difficult tasks, nine were selected — the ninth being Kalam. Since the Air Force wanted only eight, Kalam was left out. A highly dejected Kalam decided to take a bus to Delhi via Rishikesh and Haridwar. At Rishikesh, some intuitive force made him take a dip in the River Ganges, and spotted an ashram. Kalam sat at the last row as Swami Sivananda, the founder of the ashram, was giving a discourse on Bhagavad Gita.

After his speech, the Swami chose two persons from the audience to ask questions and Kalam was one of them. In his book Wings of Fire, the former President recorded the moment — I introduced myself to Swamiji. My Muslim name aroused no reaction in him. Before I could speak any further, he enquired about the source of my sorrow.

In a deep voice, the Swami said, “Accept your destiny and go ahead with your life... Forget this failure, as it was essential to lead you to your destined path. Search, instead, for the true purpose of your existence. Become one with yourself, my son! Surrender yourself to the wish of God,” the Swamiji said.

Further, quoting ‘Bhagavad Gita’, the Swami recalled the advice of Lord Krishna to Arjuna when the latter was afraid of fighting in the Kurukshetra war — “Defeat the defeatist tendency.” That is a great message. The mantra “Defeat the defeatist tendency” is always with me and it comes to me whenever I’m in trouble, he wrote.

Animal Lovers Donate Over Rs 5 Lakh In A Day To Save Friendicoes

Animal Lovers Donate Over Rs 5 Lakh In A Day To Save Friendicoes

24/08/2015

When reports of the imminent closure of NGO Friendicoes, an animal shelter located under the Defence Colony flyover in Delhi, first made news today morning, animal lovers were dismayed.

The outrage quickly turned into something positive: within hours, an online campaign for saving the non-profit was started, and it had raised over Rs 2 lakhs by mid-afternoon. By Monday evening, over 150 contributors had donated over Rs 5 lakhs. This number is steadily growing.

The NGO needs Rs 20 lakhs just to stay afloat right now — apparently the city's municipal corporation owes them Rs 38 lakhs — and will continue to need funds to do the good work they've been doing for the past 36-odd years.

It has already shut down its night time ambulance service for animals. While the shelter and the government officials are trying to sort out the financial problems, animal lovers are busy trying to make sure the shelter stays open.

Using social media, they've started a number of side campaigns to raise funds — such as a collection drive for the NGO at the National Park organised by Delhi University students or an enthusiastic Wednesday morning run at Hauz Khas.

"Friendicoes is not only a shelter. It is a way of life for many. It’s a place where you are always loved unconditionally by the animals..." Geeta Seshamani co-founder and Vice President of Friendicoes SECA said.

Meanwhile the city corporation said that the delay in payment is due to its own financial crunch. "We know this is the season for sterilisation but we are not being able to pay them. We are trying to fix the problem," an official told The Times Of India.

Disabled man takes care of his ageing mother!

Disabled man takes care of his ageing mother!

2BA0421200000578-3208646-Chen_Xinyin_left_has_been_feeding_his_mother_right_since_she_bec-a-2_1440496659540.jpg

A 48-year-old man has overcome his disability to take care of his ageing mother on his own.

Chen Xinyin from Chongqing, south west China, lost his arms after getting a massive electric shock aged seven, reported People's Daily Online.

Since then, he's learnt to cook, farm and now even looks after his bed-ridden mother.
The disabled man's amazing strength of character has been captured in a series of moving photographs that's recently emerged.

Since 2014, the disabled man has had to take care of her full-time while running his smallholding.

Chen Xinyin's 91-year-old mother has been getting weaker and weaker each year.
About a month ago, she became paralysed and can no longer move her arms.

Without the use of his hands, he has to do everything using other parts of his body, including spoon-feeding his mother using his teeth to hold on to the instrument.

But Chen Xinyin has never let his disability stop him.

Since he was 14, he has been helping on the family smallholding by rearing sheep and buffalo.
When he was 20, his father died. As his older siblings had already left home, his mother became the only person who kept the poverty-stricken family going.

Chen Xinyin wanted to help as much as he can, starting with learning to cook. But with no hands, he had to learn to use a cleaver with his foot.

The first time he tried to use the cleaver with his foot, he managed to lift it into the air using the toes on his right foot.
Unfortunately it then fell down on to his left foot, leaving a scar that can still be seen today.

But this didn't stop him.

He eventually mastered cooking with his feet and has learnt to plant wheat, peel corn cobs and even weave baskets.
Now he is the only one who runs his smallholding of farmland and raises a flock of 24 sheep, two buffalos and four hens.
He has even managed to make a profit year on year.

Working with his feet is not without cost.
Chen Xinyin forgoes socks all year round because they take too long and too much effort to put on.
This means that in the winter he often gets frostbites on his toes, making life even more difficult.
Once, a villager suggested that he should consider begging.

Beggars in the large cities can earn tens of thousands of Yuan (upwards of £1,000) per year, which is significantly more than Chen Xinyin currently makes.

He was indignant about the suggestion and replied angrily: 'I have no arms but I have good feet. I can't go make that sort of money.'

Dignity is not the only reason for rejecting the idea.

Chen Xinyin is also worried about who will be left to take care of his mother if he leaves.

While many would have reached out for help, Chen Xinyin is adamant about doing as many things himself as possible.
Somehow, he even finds the time to help his neighbours in times of need.

How One School Is Bringing World Class Education in a Remote Village in J&K

How One School Is Bringing World Class Education in a Remote Village in J&K

August 26, 2015

Located in Breswana village of Jammu and Kashmir, the Haji Public School (HPS) is known far and wide in the state for the kind of education it has to offer. An area where the concept of education was almost unknown for over 30 years has now become a place where families relocate just so that their kids can study in HPS. This is how! -

When Imran’s parents first brought him to the Haji Public School located in the village of Breswana, Jammu and Kashmir, he found it difficult to get admission due to his inability to keep up in class. His parents had traveled for one and a half hours from a nearby village with the sole intention of getting their child admitted to HPS.

Even though Imran was in the 7th grade then, his father agreed to pull him down one class, just so that he could cope with the level at Haji Public School. At that time, the school had classes running only till the 6th grade. His father vowed to prepare him over the winter and bring him back, not willing to give up on a good education for his son.

This is the level of education that the Haji family has managed to provide to children of remote villages in Jammu and Kashmir. In an area where the concept of education had been profusely scarce for over 30 years, the Haji family has been able to build a school which provides education at par with any other renowned school from the rest of the country.

Haji Public School – The Yesterday

A computer class in Haji Public School, Grade 2

Hailing from Breswana village of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, the Haji family has always been tied to its roots. When Mohammed Saleem Haji, the President of the Managing Committee of Haji Public School, moved to Dubai for work, he made sure that he brought his family back to Breswana every summer. Thus his daughter, Sabbah Haji, always carried her ancestral home with herself, even though she was not to live there until 2008. She is the Director of Haji Public School.

It was in 2008, when the family had been based out of Dubai and Bangalore for over a decade, that the Amarnath struggle of Jammu and Kashmir broke out. Saleem Haji’s wife, Tasneem Haji, who is the Principal of Haji Public School, witnessed her hometown, Kishtwar, being severely affected during the struggle. It was then that Sabbah Haji, who was in Bangalore then, decided to move to Breswana and join her parents there.

Doda district already had a Haji Amina Charity Trust built by Sabbah Haji’s uncle, Nasir Haji, in 2005. Nasir Haji is an established philanthropist-businessman who lives in Singapore, but is just as culturally attached to his village as the rest of the family. Funded by him, this trust provides assistance to the poor, orphans, widowers and the disabled.

One evening in 2008, when they were in Doda, Nasir Haji called. He said that the monthly funds being sent were not really having a grave impact on the people. Juxtaposed against this, the lack of an academic atmosphere in the region was almost tangible. For about 3 decades, Doda district went by with barely an ounce of education to feed the knowledge-hungry. The government schools did not function and there were almost no private schools there. Owing to this, Nasir Haji decided that he would send magnanimous amounts of funds regularly, for a school to be set up.

Since it started on 4th May 2009, the Haji Public School has just one objective – to impart knowledge to those children who cannot avail of the academic facilities being provided to others, in more accessible cities. The cause was so strong that the village inhabitants helped build the school brick by brick. They wrote a petition which allowed the Haji family to start a school.

With no building to call their own initially, they worked out of two rooms in their ancestral house itself. They started at the ground level, teaching only the lower and upper kindergarten students. Over the winter of 2008, Sabbah Haji and Tasneem Haji trained two boys from the village in order to turn them into teachers. With Sabbah’s strong and disciplined work ethic from Bangalore and Tasneem’s crucial 30 years’ worth teaching and school administration experience, they began the Haji Public School with about 25 kids.

The Today

Today, the school has its own building and it is growing every year. The kids who started with the school in 2009, are now in the 7th grade. The school asks for a nominal amount as fee – INR 100 for the lower classes and INR 150 for the higher classes. This has been done deliberately to ensure that parents of the kids feel a sense of entitlement towards the school. Still, since it is an extremely poverty-stricken area, on the recommendation of Saleem Haji who knows each and every family in the district, about 33% of the families who cannot afford the fee are provided with free education.

The school now has 320 students, from Lower KG to the 7th grade. They do not accept students in the higher classes because the kids are unable to cope with the pace of the class. Most new students accepted are in the kindergarten classes. They also have a rule which states that if there are 3 siblings in a family, the girl sibling will receive free education. If there is no girl child, then the youngest boy receives free education.
They work with volunteers also. The local staff members are capable of teaching till the 2nd grade only. Thus the higher classes require more qualified hands to take care of the children. The volunteer programme at the Haji Public School has volunteers coming in from all around the world to teach the kids.

The volunteers are not paid, but they are provided with food and lodging.

The school is also expanding now. With their main branch in Breswana, they have built two more branches in the nearby villages. Today, families from other villages as well as cities, relocate just so that they can gain access to the kind of education Haji Public School provides. There are students who walk for one and half or two hours to get to the school.

One of the greatest changes Sabbah has seen in the kids has been the rise in their confidence levels. Most children were so shy, they would barely utter a word earlier. But now they are much more confident and self-assured as individuals.

This is so because the school is providing them with facilities that they probably won’t receive elsewhere. There is a wall climbing area, a computer lab, and a playing ground, amongst other co-curricular resources such as music players in the school. The fact that the school has volunteers from across the world provides the children with the unique experience of a multi-fold learning process.

The Obstacles

Sabbah Haji with the kids

The biggest setback faced by the school is the lack of good faculty. It is imperative that there be teachers all around the year. Therefore, they ask volunteers to notify them beforehand and come for a minimum of 3 months so that children can receive a committed level of guidance. People from the city cannot afford to dedicate that much time. The local population, even the graduates who apply for a faculty post, are not qualified enough to be able to provide the children with the kind of education level that HPS has been maintaining up till now. Teachers from other countries sometimes have a tough time understanding the culture of the village. As HPS never compromises on quality, Sabbah or Tasneem take over the classes when there aren’t enough good teachers.

Then there is the problem of funds. Although the school rests entirely on Nasir Haji’s fund now, it is desperately trying to come up with a sustainable model which can keep the school running for years to come.

They are, therefore, looking for some kind of funding to keep moving forward.

Students during the annual day celebration at school.

Source: Facebook

The lack of assistance from the government is gravely disrupting the functioning of the school. When they began, they hoped that their model would be replicated everywhere because of its need. Not only is there no provision for subsidy, even gaining permission has become a mammoth task for the school. They require permission from the government at every major step – 1st grade, 5th grade and now, the 8th grade.

The school prepares the paper work well in advance and sends it across. However, where the government is supposed to give them a verdict within 15 days, it has been 3 years and the school has been waiting for a ‘yes’. This implies that the kids of HPS, who are now in the 7th grade, will be forced to go to a government school next year if the permission is still not granted.
There is also no provision for an internet access in the region. Sabbah Haji believes that being connected through the internet will solve a lot of problems for them.

“If we had good internet, I could even do remote classes, so I wouldn’t have the problem of staffing. My friends could sit in cities and have Skype chats with kids, which would help so much. This is something the government is not even considering.” – Sabbah Haji

The Tomorrow

Source: Facebook

Not only are they aiming to expand till the 12th grade, they also want to set up a college. They already have a land on which they wish to set up such an institution and they have no qualms if other organizations are willing to partake in the project.
HPS is hoping to get more and more volunteers and is even willing to pay teachers a salary if they wish to work full time. They ask people who have a desire to teach, to come and explore, and help the children.

Imran came back after the winter, for the next session and cleared the entrance exam. He is now a happy student at Haji Public School.

WHAT does it take to fulfil a dream you have held for over 20 years? The dream of being the first person to swim across the Atlantic Ocean from Dakar in Senegal to Natal in northern Brazil? Some would say you would be mad even to consider such an idea, but for Ben Hooper, who lives in Cheltenham, it is a challenge which he is currently training for. And it's a challenge that will take determination and a lot of guts.

Blindfolded, they rally for a cause

August 26, 2015

“When we stand on the road with our canes, we are always asked and led by people to our destination; but today, for the first time, we got an opportunity to lead people confidently,” said R. Prakash, who is visually challenged.

Mr. Prakash, who works at Indian Association for the Blind in Sundararajanpatti near here, was among the visually-challenged persons who led the ‘Blind Walk’ organised by Aravind Eye Hospital here on Tuesday. Collector L. Subramanian, Chairman of Aravind Eye Care System P. Namperumalsamy, doctors, nurses, researchers and the public were among those who were part of the walk.

Leading the Rally

They were led by the four visually challenged volunteers, while blindfolded. They walked from the Anna Bus Stand to the hospital .

S. Aravind, director (projects), Aravind Eye Care System, said the walk was conceived to show the public what it was like to be visually-challenged and create awareness of eye donation.

“Corneal blindness is affecting a lot of younger people these days . It affects the rest of their lives and comes in the way of all the opportunities they get. If younger persons affected by corneal blindness stand a chance to get a transplant easily, it will dramatically transform their lives ,” he said.

Stating that there was a definite increase in awareness of eye donation, given that there were relatively less people who had to wait for a transplant, Dr. Aravind said that the district had a huge potential which could be tapped given that more people were aware of donation.

The stars of the walk however, were the visually-challenged volunteers — Mr. Prakash, S. Bala, T. Mukesh and S. Pugazhendi — who said that they felt honoured to lead the initiative.

Caring couple taking pity on a stranger's dog that was left tied up outside a shop in Rain

26 August 2015

Cold, shivering and wet - dogs feel it too. Thankfully this kind-hearted couple took care of an Alsatian that was left tied to a lamppost outside a shop.

2BABC4DE00000578-0-image-m-62_1440602094743.jpg

The pictures were taken on Biggin Street in Dover and show the man take off his jacket to shelter the shivering animal, while its owner shopped in Marks and Spencer, as the rain battered down.

A shop worker Jon Sparkes saw the heart-warming moment and even gave the couple two umbrellas to shelter themselves and the dog.
They stayed with the pet until its female owner came out of the store 20 minutes later.

Onlookers said she appeared grateful and thanked the couple for looking after her dog.

Mr Sparkes, an assistant manager at Dover Gala Bingo, said: 'The rain was coming down really hard but these two people saw the dog was tied up to the lamppost and basically gave it shelter.

'As you can see the dude has taken his top off to protect the dog - the dog was there before the rain came.

'They've selflessly protected the dog from rain and we've seen that and gave them umbrellas.

'They were really grateful and they waited there until the owner came back who was also very grateful to the couple.'

On its Facebook page, Dover Gala Bingo said: 'These two kind hearted individuals are selflessly helping a stranger's dog stay dry in the sudden downpour of torrential rain earlier today.

'It really is quite heart-warming to see acts of kindness like this.

'It made us want to help too. It's nice to be nice - do something good today.'

The act of kindness came as Kent was hit by more than a month's worth of rainfall in just 24 hours.

Ricky Cook, 28, also saw the touching moment, which happened on Sunday.

He said: 'We had no idea who they were, they just turned up and the guy had even taken his jacket off.

'Jon took them over some umbrellas to help them out.

'It wasn't raining originally, but after the dog had been waiting around five or ten minutes, there was just this sudden downpour.

'The couple stayed with the dog about 15 to 20 minutes for the owner to return.

'It wasn't like an animal cruelty thing, they were just being nice.

'It just started raining out of nowhere.'

Mutilated Toucan Receives 3D-Printed Beak

Mutilated Toucan Receives 3D-Printed Beak

August 26, 2015

A Brazilian toucan that lost half her beak has been fitted with a 3D-printed prosthetic.

The female toucan, called Tieta by her rescuers, was rescued from a wildlife fair in Rio de Janeiro after being trafficked by smugglers, according to the BBC. There are conflicting reports as to how Tieta lost part of her upper beak, but it may have been caused by mistreatment from smugglers or an attack by a larger bird in transit.

Tieta had been attempting to eat by throwing food in the air and trying to catch it, but she only succeeded once every three tries, according to the BBC. Not only did the injury leave Tieta struggling to eat, the missing beak also left her defenseless and open to predators.

A project was put together by wildlife management group Instituto Vida Livre that involved three universities. The team used the latest technology to scan, build and 3D print the bill, creating it out of plastic and sealing it with a special polymer made from the castor oil plant. In total, the replacement beak weighs only 4 grams.

Tieta's beak being scanned by researchers to create a replacement.

While a toucan's bill may look cumbersome, it is actually very light and composed ofspongy keratin tissue. Thus, the team needed to create a lightweight prosthetic – especially as Tieta herself only weighs 300 grams.

A New Beginning

Tieta was fitted with her new bill on July 27th via a 40-minute surgery, and although the attachment was a success, it took her a while to get used to her new fully functioning beak.

"It took her three days to realize she had it again," Instituto Vida Livre Director Roched Seba told the BBC. "We were feeding her fruit and she was ignoring the new beak. But when we gave her live animals, like maggots and cockroaches, she ate normally immediately."

"I believe she had that kind of food when she was free, before losing the beak. So it activated a core memory," he added.

Unfortunately, not even this groundbreaking prosthesis will allow her to be released back into the wild as experts believe she would be unable to live independently. But there is a happy ending for Tieta: The new beak will allow her to feed independently, and feed any chicks she may have in the future.

There was another reported case of a toucan with a missing portion of his beak earlier in February, caused by an attack by a group of cruel youths in Costa Rica. This toucan, Grecia, is also in line for a replacement beak, but still needs time for his wound to fully recover before a team of veterinarians are able to scan his beak to create a model. Researchers hope to eventually mate the pair. Hopefully, Tieta’s successful story will hasten the process of Grecia to receive the same treatment.

Indian woman takes revenge on a man who allegedly harassed her

Indian woman takes revenge on a man who allegedly harassed her

This is the moment that an Indian woman takes revenge on a man who allegedly harassed her by repeatedly slapping him around the head.

The man is accused of molesting the woman, while she slept on the roof of her home in the city of Lucknow in the north-east of the country.

After the alleged attack, the woman turned to women's group Red Brigade, which helps people who have been victims of harassment and protects young girls from sexual abuse.

The woman confronts her alleged attacker, who is accused of trying to molest her as she was asleep

The man pleads with his alleged victim as he tries to apologise to her before being handed over to police

They in turn tracked down the accused and took him to his alleged victim for him to apologise before being handed over to police

However, the young woman angry with the man, then turned on him and slapped him around the face, while others look on.

He then tries to bargain with her before she hits him again so hard he falls to his knees.

The woman's anger boils over and she slaps her alleged attacker across the face and others watch on

The man appears to beg for forgiveness but the young woman continues to beat him by slapping his face and back before she walks away.

According to RT, the public humiliation of the alleged attacker is the idea of the Red Brigade, who say girls have no choice but to defend themselves and their attackers should be made to understand how it feels to be harassed.

Last month, a schoolgirl was been filmed beating her alleged stalker at a police station as officers look on.

daya.jpg

A dedicated dad!!

A dedicated dad!!

Meet Stuart Whipps, the dedicated dad who has has spent almost half a million pounds on trips abroad so he can watch his son grow up.

The 37-year-old self-employed investment banker from Reading has been flying to Cyprus every fortnight for the last seven years to see his nine-year son Charlie, after his Greek-Cypriot ex-wife moved him there from the UK.
Stuart reckons in total he has forked out more than £450,000 in flights, hotels and car rental, as well as legal fees in his failed battle to bring him home.

2BBC27EB00000578-3214095-image-a-12_1440760821073.jpg

He has also paid £150,000 in maintenance to his ex Chrys Faulla, who moved back to her native Cyprus in 2008 when Charlie was just two.

Stuart put in 20-hour days at his IT consultancy firm before he switched to investment banking so he could make as much as he could in order to keep seeing the youngster.

He said: 'All I want is to be a part of my son’s life.

'Since the day he was born, I have felt such a strong connection to him and I will pay whatever it takes to be the best father I can be.

'I’ve been left in debt and worked so many hours I had a heart attack, but it was all worth it. There is nothing I wouldn’t do to make my son happy, even if it bankrupts me.'

The strain of the travelling and working hours forced Stuart to sell his IT firm and he now works part-time as an investment banker so he can work remotely from Cyprus.

In all, he says he has made over 190 trips to Cyprus and thinks nothing of spending £2,000 each time he goes. He has also spent £60,000 on legal fees over the years.

He added: 'I’ve crippled myself financially, but I don’t care - I want to be a part of my son’s life growing up.

'The court system is so heavily-weighted towards the mum, I felt like I didn’t get a look-in really.

'I just want to be with my son, but I feel like I shouldn’t have to move to a foreign country to be with him.'

Now married to Hayley, 44, a full-time mum, Stuart has one daughter with her, Sophia, three, and a daughter from a previous relationship, Poppy, six.

He has fought to keep their close-knit family in contact with Charlie - and has flown the entire family out to Cyprus so they can meet him.

Stuart said: 'My son spent every day with me until age of 18 months. His mother decided to move to Cyprus to which I fought in court and lost.

'To maintain my relationship, I’ve been put in this position, and there’s nothing legally I can do.'
Chrys maintained she has Greek-Cypriot heritage, meaning she was granted the right to take her child to Cyprus.

Stuart said: 'I’m pretty much skint now - I don’t know what to do.

'On one hand, I want to see my son grow up, but on the other hand, I can’t relocate my family 2,000 miles away, to a foreign country, away from all their family and friends.'

India Women's Hockey Team Qualifies for 2016 Rio Olympics

India Women's Hockey Team Qualifies for 2016 Rio Olympics

29 August, 2015

Indian women's hockey team last featured in an Olympics in the 1980 Moscow Games, where they finished at a respectable fourth position.

New Delhi: Indian women's hockey team will return to the Olympics after a long gap of 36 years as it qualified for next year's Rio Games, courtesy England making it to the final of the ongoing EuroHockey Championships in London.

india-women-hockey-9011.jpg

England's semi-final victory over Spain, coming after the Netherlands' win over Germany in the other semi-final in the European Championships freed one quota place as both the finalists have already qualified for the Olympic Games.

India took the quota place on the basis of its fifth-place finish in the women's Hockey World League Semifinals in Antwerp, Belgium last month.

International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed that Indian women's team has qualified for the Rio Games.
"India qualified after England defeated Spain in the semi-finals of the Unibet EuroHockey Championships in London, which ensured that the only teams -- The Netherlands and England (as Great Britain) -- who can now win the event have already qualified for Rio through the Hockey World League Semi-Finals," the FIH said in a statement.

"The winner of the EuroHockey Championships will qualify for the 2016 Olympics as European continental champions, opening up a further qualification spot which India secure as the team who ranked highest at the Hockey World League Semi-Finals not already qualified," it said.

Indian women's team now joins nine other teams, who have already qualified for 2016 Rio Games -- Korea as Asian Games champions, Argentina as Pan Am Games champions and Great Britain, China, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and the USA through the Hockey World League Semi-Finals.
Indian women's hockey team last featured in an Olympics in the 1980 Moscow Games, where they finished at a respectable fourth position.

Hockey India applauded the historic achievement of the women's hockey team.
"It is a proud moment for Hockey India and the whole country. We have been waiting for this for the last 36 years and this achievement is the sweetest and the most memorable among all our previous feats in recent times," HI President Narinder Batra said in a release.

"I congratulate all the players and coaching staff who made this dream real and this achievement also shows their commitment toward their responsibilities. Hockey India thanks all the coaches who trained these players at their respective academies, parents, sponsors and the entire hockey fraternity, who continuously motivated the players and without their support, we could not have achieved this success. I am sure the girls will make us proud at the Olympics," he said.

Hockey India Secretary General Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad said: "The Olympics qualification is indeed a great achievement for the Indian Women Team and the Indian hockey fraternity. The players and the Coaching Staff have done a commendable job and they are still training hard for the 2016 Olympic Games. Hockey India is doing its part and fulfilling all the requirements of the team.

"I congratulate the whole team and the people who have been working hard behind the scene to achieve this success. However, the job is still half done and the team now has to set a new aim of clinching the first Olympic medal," he said.

India are the 10th team to qualify for Rio Olympics. The last two participating teams will be confirmed in the 2015 Africa Cup for Nations in Egypt and 2015 Oceania Cup in New Zealand in November.
The Indian women's team will commence its outing from August 7 in the Rio Olympics.

vengat.jpg
