The Margazhi music season is in full swing. So many
Sabhas are conducting concerts and dance programs. This
may go upto middle of Jan 2014.

I have attended few concerts of Vijay Siva, Sanjay
Subramaniam, Ranjani & Gayathri, Bombay Jayashree
and Sudha Raghunathan.

I seems that most of the musicians from Iyer community
belong to Brahacharanam sect (not 100% sure but it looks).
It seems Brahacharanam is musically inclined.

Members who know such details may provide.

Not necessarily true !. we are Vadamal Iyers & my family / extended family are all into Carnatic music for generations !! Also we have many iyers who join the local music, only some are brahacharanam.

I guess the OP wants to do research on 'subsects of Iyers'!

Never gets tired of requesting for details! :)

I have mentioned about popular musicians.

I was told that some very popular musicians like Lalgudi, TN Krishnan, MSG, TVG,
Musiri, Karaikudi Mani, Trichy Sankaran, MS, Flute Mali, Ranjani Gayathri, Sikkil
Sisters etc. belong to Brahacharanam Sect.

I don't know about other popular musicians.

Dear Chandru,

Long long ago, so long ago that no body knows how long ago, All the gandharvas living in the gandharva loka decided that they should go and settle in TN on earth. So the bold and daring 8000 from them came down to live here. That is the reason for the name Ashta sahasram. So no wonder they have music in their blood. Be happy, I am sure you are one of those descendents of these 8000. LOL.

I thought brahacharanams are scientifically inclined. There are 2 nobel laureates among the brahacharanams. Vadamal seems to me to be the most pragmatic of all the sub sects and hence excellent advisors and managers. Ashta sahasrams were associated with vedic institutions in places such as Ennayiram and kanchi, so probably scholarly.

Sorry for the diversion.

What about the third Nobel recipient Venkataraman Ramakrishnan and what is his
sub-sect?
