[h=1]My Story: India Does Not Stink Because Of Dirty Streets. It Stinks Because Of Dirty Minds[/h]This guy, along with a female friend of his (the girl in blue dress standing next to him, on whom I deliberately did not focus), were eating inside a Delhi Metro coach. When I reminded them that eating in a Metro coach is prohibited and that they will make the coach dirty, they straight away said… “We have bought tickets and hence can do whatever we want. And if we dirty the place, and you feel so much for the metro, you can clean it after we finish eating.” Which is when I realized that there is no way I could continue a rational conversation with them.

Sadly I couldn’t stop them. No one around raised any objection, which further emboldened them. And as they continued eating, they did spill some sauce and also dropped a piece of chicken, which the person standing next to them stamped on.

How do we ever change such uncouth and parasite like behavior coming from educated people? More importantly, how do we change our bystander like attitude?

This is a very dirty habit very difficult to stop. People of Delhi eat and litter any where and every where least bothered about the neatness of the environment. Another most heinous activity is spitting after chewing Pan. Every wall, monument, Bus stops and other common places are decorated with skill full spits of Pan all around Delhi. The most horrible thing is they don't even spare the lifts. Many of capital's lifts bear their onslaught and display a grim picture. Maximum of them are educated.... Do they really are educated? God only knows.

We need self discipline...We should be ashamed of such activities..The author should have taken a picture & sent it to relevant authorities...Unless there is stringent fine/punishment for such violators they will run amok!!

Really not.

Real education does not end with the three R’s (reading, writing and arithmetic) and graduating from renowned public schools .

Education includes behaviour in public places, respect for the laws, adhering to accepted code of ethics and discipline etc.

Again, all the ills today in our Country revolves around the same old problems. Lack of moralty among the individials and community, which is defined as " Dharma" (to uphold - of moral values). In our scriptures. Avaricious selfishness has led to high level of corruption that is eating away every limb of our society. All the four pillars of our Contitutional macinery have failed to uphold "Dharma".

I fully agree with this post.
Public shaming is the only way to enforce discipline. In India it might be dangerous to post any thing on social media. Put that is one way. Bangladeshi are not very different from us, but government got people to use Bathrooms instead of open defecation by shaming them.

In a remarkable achievement, official data reveals that open defecation has reduced to only 1%, a “milestone change” from the 42% in 2003, making it a role model for other countries in the region. Approximately 595 million people in India, about half the population, do not use toilets. In Pakistan the number is 41 million, or about 21%, while for Nepal the number is 15.5 million, or 54% of the population. Only Sri Lanka, of all other South Asian states, has managed, like Bangladesh, to virtually wipe out open air defecation.

And it wasn’t just health messages, but “shame and disgust” messages that were part of the campaign, says Dr Begum. Messages such as: “if we openly defecate, you will be eating other people’s feces.”
