Of late I have been receiving a lot of calls and messages requesting support for movement in favour of net neutrality. What I was able to understand from media that Government wants to put some checks on the objectionable contents available on social media which may harmful to the society or may by anti social. So far so good and does not find any thing wrong in it. Then why all these service providers are worried about. How does it affets their business in any manner? Certain mobile providers are against free voice services being provided by Whatsapp and Skype and wants rules to restrict Voice on internet protocol. Every one in Parliament seems to be wants to become part of this discussion. Does it really going to affect the libertry of common man? Of course, one should agree that the print and visual media are more or less biased these days and publishes only stories that suites their management. As Such Internet and social media are the only ones where people can express their openion freely and can have a debate on that. In case that freedom is to be under threat it is really time to raise our voice against it.
Certain facts available on wikipedia reveals that Major internet service providers have already started taking situation to their advantage, like Face Books application gives free access to certain limited sites only and that also through one single search engine- Bing. The apps started by other service providers are also gives access to products of their convenience. That way we, the end user is going to get access to very limited contents on internet as well and would be playing at the mercy of the service providers and possibly may end up paying (in future) for the services we are getting, more or less similar to the DTH service we are being forced to pay for channels of our choice. Shall we also have a debate on this members?........... I don't know if any one has already started a discussion on this subject. I tried my best but could not locate this subject in our forum. In case the subject is already there, kindly link to this to that thread please.

[h=1]Facebook fights for free Internet in India, global test-case[/h]

The battle hots up as Facebook pulls out all stops in their effort to push their Free Basics initiative in India.

India has become a battleground over the right to unrestricted Internet access, with local tech start-ups joining the front line against Facebook Inc founder Mark Zuckerberg and his plan to roll out free Internet to the country's masses.
The Indian government has ordered Facebook's Free Basics plan on hold while it decides what to do.
The program, launched in more than 35 developing countries around the world, offers pared-down web services on mobile phones, along with access to the company's own social network and messaging services, without charge.
But critics say the program, launched 10 months ago in India in collaboration with mobile operator Reliance Communications , violates principles of net neutrality, the concept that all websites on the internet are treated equally. It would put small content providers and start-ups that don't participate in it at a disadvantage, they say.
