[h=1]Nintendo kind of announces its next Console[/h] March 17, 2015 Kishore Ganesh Leave a comment Edit
The Console Wars are on, and the PS4 is in the lead, racking up over 20 million sales, while the Xbox One is behind the PS4 and the Wii U is simply not on the charts, because its sales have been so disappointing and because it has no good third-party games.
Its sales picked up when a couple of great first-party games released for the Wii U, but Nintendo can’t keep milking that cow, and so, it announced that it is working on a new Console, codenamed the Nintendo NX at SXSW.
The Nintendo NX will be its next Console, and we don’t know yet whether it will be the successor of the Wii U or the 3DS. We think it will be the Wii U, because the 3DS has been doing pretty great in terms of sales, and it is the Wii U that is lacking.
The Wii U was launched in 2012, and the Wii was launched in 2006. While the Wii did well and that’s why it lasted for six years, the Wii U has been going through disappointing sales, which is why Nintendo probably deems it eligible for an early refresh.
The NX will be the center of Nintendo’s new online Service, which will be developed in partnership with deDNA. This new online Service will connect all devices in the Nintendo Universe, such as the Wii U, the NX, the 3DS, the PC and now that Nintendo is entering the Smartphone Market in partnership with deDNA, Nintendo’s new online Service will also include Smartphones and Tablets.
Don’t expect the NX’s graphics to match the next gen Consoles, aka the PS4 and the Xbox One, because Nintendo likes to focus more on the gameplay rather than the visuals. For example, the Wii looked ancient in comparison to consoles of its time, and even after launching 5 years after the PS3 and the Xbox 360, the Wii U looked to be only on par with them.
The NX will probably be worse than the PS4 and the Xbox One when it comes to graphics, but we hope Nintendo makes up in the games department.
We will know more details about the Console in 2016.
What do you think? Can it bring Nintendo back into the game?
