Virtual Reality is poised to be the next big thing, and Oculus is the company that is leading the charge. It is the one which made Virtual Reality interesting again, and it seems it will be leading the charge.
Recently Oculus announced the Crescent Bay Headset, which according to reviewers was extremely close to the perfect Virtual Reality Experience. At CES 2015, Oculus did not announce the Release Data for the Oculus RIft, but has announced something else.
It has announced 3D Audio for the Oculus Rift, meaning that your Virtual Reality experience will be even more immersive. Using the head-tracking Data from the Oculus Rift’s Camera and Sensors, Oculus has created an Audio Experience that can actually make you feel like you are there.
If you lean in to the source of the Sound, indeed, it will seem like it is getting louder. Such a precise Audio Experience, where your movements are used for improving Audio, has not been possible before, at least not at a Price we could afford.
To be clear, this is NOT a completely new Oculus Rift Headset. It is just an update to the Oculus SDK enabling positional Audio for Developers. Oculus has made some changes to the Crescent Bay Prototype, but they are very minor.
Reviewers at CES 2015 have tried on the new Oculus Rift, and have walked away impressed with the new Audio Experience, which is so good, that you actually feel like you are there, and in addition to that, you may even be able to find out the Source of the Sound just by listening to it. It is that good.
It seems Oculus is getting closer and closer to a Consumer Release. It wants everything to be just right before it decides to release its Virtual Reality Headset. Looks like 2015 will be the year that the Oculus Rift finally hits the shores of Consumers.
