[h=1]Oculus buys Nimble VR: A Company making Solutions for Moving Around in Virtual Reality[/h] December 12, 2014 Kishore Ganesh
Virtual Reality has improved by leaps and bounds over the last two years, and all the problems we had with Virtual Reality have been fixed, but one thing still has not been figured out: How to move around in Virtual Reality.
Sure, you could simply hook up a Controller to a Virtual Reality Headset, but that would break the immersiveness of Virtual Reality, which is why many are looking for alternatives.
A company called Nimble VR, proposed a solution on Kickstarter, a crowdfunding site. Its solution included a Kinect-esque Camera that was placed on top of the VR Headset, and it had the ability to track Hand Movements, thus connecting your real-life Movements to Virtual Reality Movements.
This is an innovative solution to the Problem, and just might work, which is why Nimble VR has garnered the support of many people (Upwards of $130,000 funded). Evidently Oculus too was impressed by Nimble VR, which is why it is acquiring it for an undisclosed amount.
Nimble VR’s Crowdfunding Campaign will be closed, and the company’s Team and Research will instead be directed towards improving the Oculus Rift.
So what do you think of Oculus acquiring Nimble VR? What do you think of the independence given to Oculus by its owner, Facebook?
