Normally, everyone does Ganapathy Homam or Puja to avert hurdles before starting any work. Similarly, Durga
puja is performed to ward off woes, if any. SHE destroys all evils, eliminates obstacles and blesses us with
all good things and the worshiper gets all the benefits. In the Puranas, it is mentioned that Lord Rama could
win in the battle, after he did the Durga Puja. Similarly Lord Parasurama was granted immortality. In fact,
of late, one can see Rahu Kala puja is becoming famous. Yudhishtra of Pandavas too did the same before
they entered the agnivasam. Lord Krishna once counselled Arjuna to perform a Durga puja. Why to go
so far, during our independance struggle, Sri Aurobindo, for emerging successful in our effort, suggested
Durga worship. In Kolkatta Durga Puja is very famous in India.
