PM-elect Modi: An innings well begun

In the present India everybody has to be secular. Hindus have been the most secular. Propaganda is for winning elections. Many would not know what people have voted for. Modi thinks it is against dynastic rules, many think Hindu Raj has come. Muslims think we will follow others; some there and some here. There are people who think it is against corruption. Maybe it is every thing to everybody. History is nearing a full round perhaps. Russia is engineering a new (trade) bloc to stall assault on their own. All said and done, at least wait for the 100 days Modi has set for visible effect of his government. I am at least happy that black money will be brought back and am afraid at the same time prices may shoot up in spite of the fact I have neither black money nor the white. ATMs know what they give you.

Exceptions are there for every rule, but you do not formulate principle on the basis of exceptions. If you or your family had a brain surgery needed would you go to the barber or the best hospital? Please dont defend a wrong presumption. I have nothing against smart, honest collage dropout for cleaning my garage, but I would want the best qualified person (Honest) for a senior level post. It is not to say that that the collage dropout may be Bill Gates or Jaylalitha.

You should hire the best person to clean your garage. Note there is difference with best qualified person. That is what interviews are for. That is why nowadays you cant walk into any job just by brandishing your degree.

Should the defense minister be an expert in boxing or sword fighting?

I feel bad for namo.he cannot have ten good men to run this country. he has some youngsters MOS with independant charge. hopefully they will deliver. bureaucrates may not support him if there are tranparency clauses. govt was at a standstill as with the rules and transparency, it is too risky to operate freely. thats what brouht UPA2 down. BJP is gong to do no better.lets see how long the honeymoon lasts. The edu. minister is a disaster and shows poor politcal judgement. they can give her some other portfolio .why damage the next generation. luckily I do not have grand children yet

All political, media, left, secular and west pundits have been proved wrong just a few days ago. Nothing wrong in wishing and expecting disaster. It will take sometime for the accumulated scum to be cleared for individuals and stagnant bureaucracy. Wait for rich, tasty and filling pudding or dokla/jilebi.

A train journey and two names to remember :

Today's edition of "The Hindu" carries a wonderful article under the heading "A train journey and two names

The Hindu must have published it by mistake. Must be working hard for a modi interview to compensate rahul's interview. Otherwise it does not make sense.

Post Modi-Jaya talks, dy speaker may go to AIADMK
Shekhar Iyer
BJP goes all out to garner support
411708_thump.jpg
A day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and left the South Block with a “happy note”, speculations were abuzz on Wednesday that the BJP is going all out to ensure the AIADMK’s support for its regime.

On Tuesday, Jayalalitha was all praise for Modi and the manner in which his party won an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha polls, said party insiders. The insiders’ account included the breaking of the ice between the two leaders after the bitter phase of electioneering.

So much so that the BJP’s floor managers in Parliament on Wednesday spoke of, to begin with, offering the post of Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker to the AIADMK, which could nominate M Thambidurai.

Also, the BJP was keen to prevent the non-Congress parties from forming a bloc in Parliament, as proposed by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which has 20 MPs, is likely to be kept in good humour by offering the BJD the chairmanship of key parliamentary panels like the Public Accounts Committee, which was normally offered to the main opposition party.

Incidentally, both the AIADMK and the BJD maintained that the TMC’s talk of a common group in Parliament was a non-starter.

They would rather look forward to what the government had to offer.

However, both the BJP and AIADMK sources conceded that besides the post of Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker, Jayalalitha would expect Modi to offer much more. At least two Cabinet and two Ministers of State berths would be in order to “firm up” the support of the AIADMK, which has 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha where the ruling NDA lacks majority to pass any legislation.

If past events are a guide, then AIDMK speaker will evict all trouble creating MPs from the hall with the help of marshals. Wanton abusers will also be suspended!

And 270 comments showering praise on the humane & humble Modi! More to come!!

After 297 comments, The Hindu closed the comments section. Guess what that reveals about the paper? And our Brahmanyan's comment seems to have attracted the maximum of 176 likes.

Dear "Naina_Marbus",

Thanks for bringing this to our Forum. I am a regular contributor to comments on the news and views in "The Hindu".
Many of them do not find a place due to critical moderation. "The Hindu" claims to be a liberal and talk a lot about freedom of expression, but in practice they are not ! In fact "The Times of India" and "The Hindustan Times" publish the comments instantly without any moderation.

Warm Regards,
Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

Amma can not be trusted fully in politics. When Article 372 on Kashmir becomes a contentious issue and has to be removed by an amendment to the constitution, Amma's support will be crucial. The catch is that Amma may do a somersault and sing the secular song then giving Modi his nightmares.

I received the following info from somebody - I do not know the accuracy of the information . Someone closer to such issues can confirm or deny the stated information.. I do suspect there is a strategic plan to control the media in all countries and India is no exception. The aggressive religions have money and employ deception to advance their cause - so I will not be surprised if there is truth in the following.. comments?

It is too long to fit into a message .. I just gave a small glimpse of what I received.

I am curious to know how much of this has factual basis...

Amma may not support on these 3 contentious issues but her support may not matter as NDA has the necessary numbers in Lok sabha (336 and short of 2/3rd majority by 28 seats) ...Other parties like BJD may support it

I believe jayalalitha supported ram mandir movement and building of temple. There is a sc judgement on ramjanma bhoomi, a three way split. It is possible with some coercion to get the land allotted to the temple, with suitable compensation in land and money for the other two litigants. I don't know why the sc is delaying the review petition. Perhaps another judge has to retire.

Common civil code is approved by the constitution and pressurised by the supreme court for implementation. Jay may not object.

Regarding art 370, there was a report that the home ministry is in the process of calling the occupied territory as 'pakistan occupied jammu and kashmir - POJ&K instead of POK, as areas from jammu and ladak are also involved. This changes the scope of the problem and delinks it from muslims.

Since in this election modi led bjp have broken several prevalent ideas and groupings - muslim minority and caste equations, leaders will be bit more cautious in waving caste-religion card in addressing issues.

I do believe in Modi's governance, I wish him success. People like Arun Jaitley are talented and honest. I think Sushma Swaraj will be good. At the same time I am not pinning hope on a Matriculate Irani to lead HRD ministry. BJP supporter need not rush to put me down, time will tell.

Sri Prasad

Though I am very optimistic about India and its current leadership I am not a supporter of any party (and do not know enough to take a position). I am not here to put anyone down as well.

I wanted to know why PM Modi picked Ms Irani who is not formally well educated and a 'Matriculate' at best.

I came across this public talk recently delivered by Ms Irani from a friend and thought of sharing it. I know Obama cannot give such a talk without a teleprompter.

In this talk Minister Irani is absolutely in command of the facts, and is able to connect with people extremely well better than most politicians I know in East and West. There is tremendous wisdom in what she is sharing and it seems to me that the speech was not pre-written by anyone else.

Schools and colleges do not teach about how to communicate, negotiate, what wisdom is, and how to get things done. If these are metrics added to the requirements of a Minister in my view she is amply qualified.

Extempore ! Very effective! Appreciate Irani for this thoughtful and emotional speech!

And her diction is superb! Talking of national identity - this is a person the average Indian can emotionally identify with. Compare this to the dull lifeless talk that one used to hear from SG.
