The news was kept under wraps till the last minute! From Russia to Afghanistan to Pakistan today by PM Modiji! Why the sudden desire to have friendship with a neighbor who is hell bent on fomenting discord & creating trouble in India by sending mercenaries! From beheading Indian Jawan to firing in the border and sending terrorists to plant explosives in Jammu & Kashmir & propping up terror has been the modus operandi of our enemy..What material change is prompting the resumption of dialogue?

[h=1]Nawaz receives Modi at Lahore airport[/h]December 25, 2015 17:32

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at the Lahore airport this evening and was his received by his counterpart Nawaz Sharif, who gave him a warm hug.

Reports say that Nawaz will host Modi at his ancestral home in Rawalpindi.

The announcement had came from Modi himself in a tweet as he prepared to wind up his brief visit to Afghanistan.

"Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi," he tweeted. "Spoke to PM Nawaz Sharif & wished him on his birthday," Modi had added in another tweet.

I do not think that this was a suddent decision . Background diplomacy must have done all the arrangements for this visit which must have been kept in top secrecy by both the sides .

This was expected though not with the speed that we witness. There were right noises being made for quite sometime.

And vganeji, you have brought this news item into this forum by beating the "cut and paste Expert" who usually comes first with such info here. You beat him to that. congrats. You deserve a laddu prasad from Lord Srimannarayana for this. LOL.

Yesterday was former PM Vajpayee's 91st Birthday & Modi had opened a Atal Block in Afghan Parliament...What a coincidence!

Sorry vgeneji, this message is regarding the preceding post.
Thanks Vgeneji for your original story as opposed to "cut & Paste". :loco:
We all get inspiration from others. No one creates anything original (Advaita philosophy).
But some of us have the "GOD" complex and look down on less fortunate people, and can not accept others contribution or even existence.

when a hindu hardliner party reaches out and makes a linkage with the defence brass in pak for military related issues to

resolve them and the elected govt for other matters there is good chance of progress.

Issue like siachen would call for accomodation from india .sir creek should be easier to resolve.

whether kashmir can get resolved keeping kashmiris out is a challenge.

terror related talks is an international compulsion to which pak is forced to discuss. muslim hard liners in pak might try to

derail the talks in addition to saffron brigade within india. Already there are dissensions within the arty in power.

RSS can be irresponsible if modi does not subscribe to akhand bharat and may play spoiler.

congress has only nuisance value and should not be an issue.

new possibilities are opening up for india pak relations. how long the bonhomie will last is anybodys guess.

A good one!

I think Shri Modi has taken so long to understand the 'realpolitik' of the sub-continent (as opposed to the BJP/RSS/Hindutwa parties' views of a mighty India Vs inimical, evil Pakistan) and realized that the world outside views Pakistan & India in very different lights, with Pakistan having a long steel nail on the very top part of India which it can screw as much as it wants, whenever it suits it. Now that ISIS mercenaries in AfPak is becoming more of a possibility, Probably Modi might have thought it better to keep a 'friendly and equal neighbours' show so as to prevent the Pak powers that be do not send ISIS mercenaries into India through Kashmir. May be the Russian intelligence have some solid info on this topic which was shared with Modi and hence this sudden change in stance of the PM.

1. It is not as if Pak has all the Aces and India has no cards worth the name.

2. If Pak can send militants through Kashmir India can send trained terror through the Pak-Afghan border and that is a troubled border for several centuries. The long steel nail is just a replica of what India can tighten at will.

3. The prosperous and free muslim community in India is the insurance against any IS mischief in India. They will tell the IS jihadis to keep off India.

4. The western countries have become irrelevant in the India-Pak relations the day Pak became a nuclear state.

5. It may be a genuine effort on the part of India to try for a thaw in its relations with Pak. The economic benefits are very attractive.

6. The change is not sudden but a well measured one. There was enough indications of some such initiative in the air for some time now. The method adopted is unique and that is perhaps Modi's style.

7. Russian intelligence or no intelligence there will be continuous efforts at inflicting a hundred cut in each other's body and bleeding by both countries as long as border remains unsettled.

A well reasoned brilliant post..

India does have some aces to play.

As india is a bigger country, it can reach out for peace by settling outstanding issues in a spirit of more give and less take

as we can afford it for the larger good of the sub continent.

Only our hug can be more dangerous for neighbours than our hostility.

it is a matter of time that muslim and christian gods will become avathars of hindu Gods.

hi

both are nuke country....both has to play careful without any third/UN intervention.....just a CHAI PE CHARCHA type...

PM Modi has thrown number of surprises ever since he has sworn in. Whether it the Swatcha Bharat Mission, visiting US or inviting Obama for Republic Day, snatching Sardar Patel from Congress he has surprised every one with his unprecedented actions. The unscheduled Pak visit is the last on this series. One way he has given the US and the UN a very clear message that he is not opposed to peace talks with Pak and is prepared to take any level of risk. The Pakistan is in now in no position to say that India is against talks . India's foreign minister has visited them, Modi himself has visited them now. Defense secretary level talks are also on the move. He also was able to raise quite a number of opposition eye-brows in India who were only doing simple lip-service to the issue. This should a message very loud and clear to the world that India is not at all against the peace talks, in fact Pakistan should respond properly by curtailing terrorism originating from their soil, to enable the smooth progress of the talks.

When Pak tried to acquire strategic depth for itself by making Afghanistan a pliant client state, India intervened decisively. Remember the days of Northern alliance versus Pak's Pushto speaking rebels group from the southern and eastern Afghanistan. India decisively supported the northern alliance comprising the forces of Uzbek Warlord Mohamed Dostam and the ahmed Shah Masood of another group. They defeated the Pak backed alliance and the civil war came to a stalemate. Even today it is a cherished dream of Pak to make Afghanistan a client state by putting in place a puppet regime so that it gets the much needed strategic depth to fight with India.

Like the European Union, there is scope for prosperity of the two countries by becoming friends. The economic forces are very powerful and eventually they are bound to take over the dynamics. We may even have a common currency. LOL.

When Pak can, India can. When Pak will, India too will. The ifs are taken away to satisfy doubting thomases. Now what next? LOL.
