Protest outside US consulate in Chennai over anti-Islam film

Activists of a Muslim party on Friday pelted stones at the US consulate here protesting against a controversial film deemed offensive to Islam, police said.


Around 300 protesters belonging to the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) tried to picket the US consulate here but were stopped by police, they said.


Some window panes were damaged but nobody was injured, police said, adding the protest caused traffic pile-up on the arterial Anna Salai where the consulate is located.


I know India is a free country, and there is freedom of expression. But so is USA. A film produced by a group in US is not official US policy. US government even if they wanted could not stop this film, then why direct anger against US consulate.

Why did the police not expect this attack, and prevent the violence?

It is all points scoring over one other by so many small political outfits floating around, to show that they are the true muslims/hindus/etc etc, and they can only safeguard the intrest of their community these things are done. Police and the ruling party would not like to antgonise these outfits as they may be helpful during election time or for cornering the opposition party. If today CM had ordered the police not to allow the stone pelting or protest ex-cm 90 year old would have dorned a muslim cap and would have landed there tomorrow morning in his wheel chair organising even a bigger drama out side the counsalate.

The entire area was full of cement blocks while i was driving down today evening with scores of police and TV crew standing there. Wherever any minority clash happens its reflection will be seen either in Kashmir or Chennai...
This nothing but political game and affected one are the normal poor class who had to walk long distances to their destinations...

Police ad intelligence have all the information still they will not act unless orders come from top....very sad...

Your point is well made.
But it should be condemned by media, and Indian authority should denounce it.
Please remember that a large Indian diaspora lives in USA.

Dear Prasad Sir,

Well let us not discuss the Indian media and that too Tamil Nadu media. They want sensationalism...and along with that the TRP ratings, which says which newspaper is widely read, which channel is looked, which channel stands up first for any thing to do with Indians, etc etc. The forth estate is another big scandal waiting to be ripped apart. Few weeks back a girl was harassed by few goods in day light which was filmed bya media channel and nothing was being done to save the girl.. the entire episode lays bare the intention of Indian media. The ediitor or the reporter had infact justified the filiming saying it will help in the arrest of the culprit.
Except for few handful papers or magazines every thing is controlled by few businees people whose intention is to earn a fast money even if it means trampling over few innocent bodies.

I am reminded of a mail circulating under the name of Shri Abdul Kalam on the Media, where in he compared our with Israel while on his visit. There was huge bom explotion the previous day by the hamas group , but the national paper next day headlines was about a Israel Farmer who had changed the desert scape by his hard work and it was higlighted and the bomb explosion was in the third page. It was not sensationalised and the positive approach of the newspaper was appreciated. There is not even one reporter of TN newspaer or Magazine who dare question the CM in any of the press meet. All question will be about the opposition leader and cinema and freebeis given. In the pressmeet with the opposition leader question will not asked why they are not attending the assembly or what is the need fora protest, but something about unrelated srilankan issue or about the cinema field.
Every magazine lives, breathes, on sensational cinema news , and nothing else. So what the people get to read is what the magazine thinks,what the media baron think ...
Prasad Sir, thought of Indain Dispora in other part of the world will be highlighted only if there is any sensational, juicy news is there. Or IMHO no one is bothered about them, either Government or Media.

wow, you are unbelievable !!. you are outraged by lack of intelligence failure by India (anyways intelligence in our govt is unheard of so far - LOL) but strangely remain silent about the colossal intelligence failure and security failure (there was hardly any security at the embassy in Libya) of the US which lead to a top ambassador being lynched by a mob or maybe even terrorists !!. This kind of a disaster had never happened from 1979 till the Libya incident in US !!

Clearly the current US administration dropped the ball on security in its quest for peace, so you should raise this issue in the forum & debate further !!

Oh, Is it because you are supporting the current administration that you dont want to raise this issue ??

It is because you believe Romney is evil (LOL) instead of the terrorists who killed the ambassador & his colleagues that you will not echo his criticism ??

Of all the things in the world you cannot accuse intelligence agencies to have intelligence of attacks coming their way. Example: Attack of Pentagon along with the WTC). You cannot accuse the Indian Vigilance Commission to have been vigilant on their rolls. Example: So many scams but VC is no where near; maybe they are inside the scams). In these days you cannot accuse anybody of anything including terrorists. Man's ingenuity is at its peak!

The fact of the matter is that Muslims give number one priority to their religion

They brook no insult to their religion...For them the God is supreme and he should be above review

Their lives circumambulate aroud the fulcrum of their religion

But this would be just a facade...Beneath this veneer shows the stark reality

The discrimination of Sunni's by Shia's or the women in general or the persecution of Ahmedias or the blatant discrimination and torture of Hindus in Pakistan has never caught their attention or bothered them.

For them offense has become their best defence...


But the winds are changing....

It is better for them to introspect & take a course correction....

Dear Guruvayurappan Sir,

If you read the next day paper it has come out that the IG Police did not have a clue that the gathering would be such big & that they would turn so violent at the drop of hat. Like you said this must have all been planned well & executed. Till today the entire area is cordoned off and normal public who could have crossed that area in 5 minutes are spending 45 minutes to 1 hour in peak time as the road is closed permanently.

Those protested and the parties which organised the show coming from different places have gone back to their places satisfied in breaking the peace and the normal public of this place is still suffering the aftermath of it. Driving thru that area is hell and i am taking detour to reach my place spending extra few miles and costly petrol!!!

How can we cheer this ?

How to see the film? As usual, all shouting and damaging property I am sure cannot say what was in the film to offend their sensibilities. The screaming heading in the media 'anti islam film' is good enough.
