Mathematician Ramanujam didn’t have any close friends- someone asked him the reason. He replied that although

he wanted to have close friends -nobody was up to his expectations. When pressed how he expected his friend to be

- he replied - like numbers 220 and 284!

The person got confused and asked what is the connection between friendship and these numbers!

Can anyone find out .... without searching the WEB?

Math genius Ramanujam's explanation of the numbers 220 and 284:

Ramanujam asked him to find the divisors of each number!

With much difficulty - the person derived and listed them

220 → 1,2,4,5,10,11,20,22,44,55,110,220

284 →1,2,4,71,142,284

Ramanujam then asked the person to exclude the numbers 220 and 284 and asked the sum of the remaining divisors

The person was astonished to find:

220 → 1+2+4+5+10+11+20+22+44+55+110 = 284

284 →1+2+4+71+142 = 220

Ramanujam explained that an ideal friendship should be like these numbers- to complement each other - even when

one is absent - the other should represent the friend!

The person thought - no wonder this genius is on the world’s top list of mathematicians!!''

I am not giving any puzzles in this post but wish to share how I got puzzled at the ignorance of 'learned' youth!!

1. One guy said he has NOT seen Super Moon so far in his life!

(It would have surely come many times after his birth!)

2. Another one said that he has NOT seen a Blue colored Moon!

(He did not know that Blue Moon means the second full Moon that appears in one calendar month!)

3. This was the TOP! This guy said that the Moon will be 15 TIMES bigger than its usual size and
30 TIMES brighter than usual. (OMG!! Has he NOT studied about '%' in his school??) :faint:

The manager suddenly remembers that the room rent is $ 25 and gives $ 5 to the porter to return to the people.

On the way to the room, the porter thinks that $ 5 would be difficult to share among three people; so he keeps

$ 2 and give $ 1 to each person.

Now each person paid $ 10 and got back $1.

So they paid $ 9 each, totaling $ 27. The porter has $ 2, totaling $ 29.

Where is the missing $1?

it is easy madam, total amount spent by the residents is $27 , room rent $25 plus $2 pocketed by bell boy all tallied. Where is $1, why are you confused

Rajiji your puzzle is good.

$25 (with the manager), $3 (returned to the 3 guests) and $2 (with the bellboy).

What missing dollar? $2 for the bellboy plus 3 guys each taking a dollar ($1x3=$3) equals $5. There is no missing dollar.

this aptly describes the persons around Sri Rama on His pattabhishekam even the eight guarding the eight directions east, west etc.,
