Quid pro quo Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Obama did a sterling job of building the momentum that had been missing in India-US ties over the past few years. To the surprise of policy wonks, Obama and Modi shared good chemistry. Modi’s generous announcement at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (28 Sept 2014) that American tourists going to India would get visas on arrival while US citizens travelling to India for other reasons would be granted long-term visas tipped the US government’s hand in agreeing to India’s participation in the Global Entry program. Frequent Traveller Indians arriving in the US will no longer have to spend hours waiting to be cleared by immigration officials at busy airports like New York’s John F. Kennedy, Washington’s Dulles or Chicago’s O’Hare. India will immediately be covered by the US Global Entry Programme, which eliminates the need for pre-approved, low-risk travelers to even meet any immigration agent before entering the United States. In a major breakthrough for intelligence sharing, the American side also committed its security and law enforcement agencies to "joint and concerted efforts" aimed at dismantling the networks of Dawood Ibrahim’s “D-company,” the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammed operating mainly from Pakistan. In return, India will help in cracking down on the Haqqani network in Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as al-Qaeda which are of interest to the US. According to diplomats, Obama is intrigued by Modi’s political skills and pulling power. A new IIT, help against LeT and more: Here's what Obama promised PM Modi - Firstpost
