Quotable Quotes Part II

Talent

Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself,
but talent instantly recognizes genius.

That pretty well explains why only
a genius can recognize another.

There is no substitute for talent.
Industry and all the virtues are of no avail.

Aldous Huxley.

So talent is the foundation.
Industry and other virtues can build castles on it.
Without the foundation of what use is the hard work???

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.
Mother Teresa

Talk

Some people talk simply because they think
sound is more manageable than silence.
Margaret Halsey

I know! At times Silence can be deafening!!! :ear:

Talking and eloquence are not the same;
to speak and to speak well are two things.
A fool may talk but a wise man speaks.
Ben Johnson.

By extrapolation can I safely state that
"A fool reads but a wise man studies."
"A fool forgets what he has just read
but a wise ruminates on what he has studied" ???

I have seen people who get scared to sit with their eyes closed even for a few seconds.
A few others carry this to such an extent that even when they sleep,
they keep their eyes wide open.
One can never be sure whether they are really sleeping unless one tries
Jerry mouse's method (of waving one hand close to the open eyes of Tom cat)
to make sure that person IS indeed sleeping!!!

Dear Tmt VR

Your mail id: "hotmale.com" ?????!!! - Nah, can't believe it !

Presently in Prayag, with limited access to the net - in fact limited access to
anything and everything that we take for granted.

Guruvethunai
Yay Yem

Dear Mr. A.M Ji,

I am neither a MALE nor HOT by any degree! :nono:

So surely hotmale.com can't be my i.d by any chance.

I have heard that someone typed it this way

in a great hurry and could not access his own mail box!

Surely it will be an eye opener to realize that

nothing is really unlimited - the way we wish them to be

or assume them to be, under normal conditions.

Make the best of whatever is available

and thank God for the small mercies. :hail:
After all something is better than nothing!!! Am I Right??? :decision:

Dear Smt VR

Your post # 629

So, was Ben Johnson [ the athlete, I suppose ] "Talking" or "Speaking", when he was found guilty and
confessed to taking performance enhancement substances ?

Yay Yem

If both our Ben Jonsons are one and the same;

and if that person confessed the truth,

surely he was SPEAKING since

we always SPEAK the truth and

never ever TALK the truth. :high5:

Dear Smt VR

I think you must've forgotten - Ben Johnson, the Canadian athlete [sprinter] had a high profile career in
the sports arena - won an Olympic Gold Medal, which was rescinded later - fell into an abyss of disgrace
- this was in the mid / late '80s.

You are right - the names Ben and Johnson are pretty common - could have been any Ben Johnson that
you might have quoted.

But if you now 'conjured' up a quote from a "Lance Armstrong" - you know who I will be thinking of.

Yay Yem

I get my quotations from an old book quotation.

Conjuring up quotations will make us get caught red handed.

You will know this better than I do.

Lance Armstrong (whoever he my be) will not figure here in this thread

unless the book I have has included his quotes.

Teaching

You can't teach a man anything;
you can only help him to find it within himself.
Galileo Galilei

I know!

I tried!!

I failed!!!

He who can, does,
He who cannot teaches.
G.B.Shaw.

He who can do neither
tarnishes the image of
the doer & teacher alike!!! :heh:

Here is a quotation from Betrand Russell (which came as a clue in New York Times Crossword puzzle Nov 27, 2006)

The Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time

The clue: Betrand Russell's quote relevant to crossword puzzle solvers!

The Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time

The clue: Betrand Russell's quote relevant to crossword puzzle solvers!

Surely the time spent in solving cross word puzzle is

the time invested in training the mind and brain and
is certainly not the time wasted by any standard. :clap2:

Teaching

Let such teach others who themselves excel
And censure freely who have written well.
Alexander Pope.

Now, those who excel prefer
any job other than teaching!!! :tsk:

The whole art of teaching is only the art of
awakening the natural curiosity of young mind
for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards.
Heraclitus

Why is teaching so very difficult???
It requires
a mind,
a young mind,
a young mind with curiosity,
a young mind with natural curiosity,
a young mind with natural curiosity that CAN be awakened.

Temptation

Nothing makes it easier to resist temptation
than a proper bringing up, a sound set
of values and witnesses.
Franklin. P. Jones

It is good to be without vice but
it is not good to be without temptation. :high5:
Walter Bagehot

The only way to get rid of
a temptation is to yield to it. :moony:
Oscar Wilde

Temptation

Why comes temptation but for man to meet
And master and make crouch beneath his foot,
And so be pedestalled in triumph.
Robert Browning

Many a dangerous temptation comes to us
in gay, fine colors, that are but skin deep.
Matthew Henry
.

Thinking

There is no expedient to which man will not resort
to avoid the real labor of thinking. :der:
Sir Joshua Reynolds

Few people think more than two or three times a year;
I have made an international reputation for myself
by thinking once or twice a week.
G. B. Shaw

Think about this first!!!

Thinking

Whatever withdraws us from the power of our senses;

whatever makes the past, the distant or the future

predominate over the present, advances us

in the dignity of thinking process.

Samuel Johnson.

Thinking

If you are not a thinking man,
to what purpose are you a man at all??
S. T. Coleridge

Good question!!! But who is going to answer this???

Thinking in lower grades is comparable to paper money, and
in its higher forms is a kind of poetry.
Havelock Ellis.

Poetry was also written on paper
without the images and value seen on the currency.
:decision:

Our thoughts are often worse than we are. :frusty:
George Eliot

We are inhibited and under constant scrutiny

but our thought are NOT!

Does this explain the lot a lot???

Time

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-flying;
And the same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying.
Robert Herrick.

Is it wiser to pluck the flower
and let it wilt one day earlier???

No man can tether time or tide.
Robert Burns

Oh! If he could, man will become
immortal and invincible!!! :scared:

Time: that which man is always trying to kill,
but which ends in killing him.
Herbert Spencer

Kill or get killed??? :decision:

Time's glory is to
calm contending kings, :fencing:

To unmask falsehood,

and bring truth to light.

William Shakespeare.

Time

Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth,
And delves the parallels in beauty's brow.
William Shakespeare

If an hour is too long, I remind myself
that it will never return
and it immediately becomes terribly short.
Paul Henry Spaak.

Tomorrow
Boast not thyself of tomorrow , for thou :nono:
knowest not what a day may bring forth.
proverbs 27:1

It is well to out off until tomorrow
what you ought not to do at all.
