Even as Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has put out an advertisement offering “a health pack” for preventing Ebola virus, health officials have assured that India, which has had no cases of Ebola so far, is equipped to “contain” the virus and have also cautioned against over-the-counter drugs and concoctions that promise a cure for Ebola.

“It is not an airborne virus, as many in India tend to believe, the disease spreads only through the exchange of bodily fluids. Doctors and health-care workers who have been infected while treating patients probably did not follow the protocol. As on date a strict screening and monitoring process has been followed and we are ready to contain the virus, as we have done with SARS and swine flu,” a senior Health Ministry official said.

On the claims made by Baba Ramdev in the advertisement that Ebola virus can be prevented through the use of his “health package”, the official said, “As on date there is no proof to prove there are medicines that can cure Ebola. If he is claiming that his Ayurvedic medicines can boost immunity that does not mean it can be a safeguard against Ebola.” The advertisement claims, “There might be an herbal cure of Ebola virus that has recent repapered to the world. This disease is deadly and need to be taken care of immediately. Indian doctors and scientists believe that there might be an effective cure of Ebola virus through herbs. More over there may be certain herbs that are considered to be extremely beneficial in tackling Ebola virus and its deadly symptoms.”

While Baba Ramdev could not be reached for his comment, Dr. Atul Gogia, Consultant, Internal Medicine, Ganga Ram Hospital said, “Drugs to treat Ebola are still under trial, vaccines too are not available. We have nothing to prove or disprove the claims being made to treat Ebola.”

It may not be illegal, but stinks like unethical, for a swamiji to sink this low (that too in a garb of a sanyasi).
I am sorry to offend the Babaji's fans, but this is height of hypocrisy.

What stinks and what is unethical is the fact that the sickular press does not hesitate to spread slander against someone without verifying the facts. The website that made the claim proved to be a fake website. The website even had a disclaimer that it was not an official website of ramdev. But the sickular media does not care for such truths. It is just an opportunity for the media to ridicule a Hindu guru. In the land of sickularism, anything goes.

Sorry to offend fans of sickularism!

Dear Prasad ji,

Baba Ramdev should be a bit more transparent of his Health Pack.

Since he claims it might work..he has to show some evidence base for this.

I feel he should be encouraged to come forward and explain how it works.

The problem is mainstream medicine and ayurvedic medicine do not tend to see eye to eye and this in my opinion is a sad state becos both can benefit from each other if there is strong back up evidence.

So Baba Ramdev should come forward and explain his Health Pack and the mechanism of its action.

From my experience with Ayurvedic medicine practitioners..most of them are not too wiling to be evidence based and they are mainly patient testimonial based.

Out here recently the Institute of Medical Research was doing a study where patients with dengue fever who were fed papaya leaf juice showed an increase in platelet counts and everyone was excited as they thought the cure of Dengue fever was found.

Now the study only shows increase in platelets but Dengue fever isnt all about a Low platelet count.

In fact In Dengue a person dies from plasma leakage and hypovolemic shock which is nothing to do with a low platelet...and mainstay treatment would be hydration and intravenous fluid therapy.

So the Medical Association cautioned the research saying that people might ignore he warning signs of plasma leakage and hypovolemia and just drink papaya leaf juice and not go to a doctor for IV fluids.

So right now the whole papaya leaf study seems to be not fully conclusive yet.

Likewiswe for any Ayurvedic medicine it will be better if practitioners would come up with case study, evidence and results.

If they can produce it..may be then they can surely rightfully start therapy for any disease in view to help mankind.

First of all, practice of worshiping humans as swamiji etc has to end.
If God is in everybody, why the other person becomes 'special'?

Because of these followers, these fake swami's, baba truly get to feel that there is something genuine and special
in them. Hence leading to all these nonsense.

There are scientists breaking their head to find out the cure, while people like him twisting the legs and head are claiming cure?

In the past, there were saints who claimed to cure disease. Then why don't they wipe out all disease from earth?
Silly!!

This fake stuff exists in all religions, maybe Hinduism has bit more.

Forgot to add,
maybe we should put Ramdev in Sierre Leone, Liberia etc and ask him to give his 'magical' package.

There are noble people like 'doctors without borders', red cross etc risking their lives to help fellow human beings, while he is trying to profit from this calamity through unethical means by sitting in his mansion, with private jet and such.

Public should be blamed for allowing such people.

I feel if we cant find a cure for anything we should not dismiss the claims of another till proven.

There is no harm in anyone trying to find a cure..whether he is a Swami ji or a Scientist.

Its the intention and good will that will pave a way finally.

We need to be open minded from inputs from every angle and give everyone a chance.
