As pariharam, watch this www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyZVweY45zQ

And recite:
कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मिः करमध्ये सरस्वति ।
करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम् ॥
Karaagre Vasate Lakssmih Karamadhye Sarasvati |
Karamuule Tu Govindah Prabhaate Karadarshanam ||

<edited> As mentioned in another thread, nobody owns any thread. If the thread starter feels the discussions are going off-topic he/she can ask the members to come back to the point of discussion. But it has to be done in a manner that is not hurtful or brash. There is no need to use words that can be interpreted in various ways...

aha - that must be a customised version for those who dont believe in Shiva and his family.
You should be reciting from the original Sir.

This thread was stated by a very learned person with a very good intention of teaching something good.

As it happens in many other threads, a few members have given erratic meanings to some good words,

according to their taste! This reminds me how one of the movies by Bhagyaraj made ladies feel very

embarrassed to buy 'murungaikkAy' from the vegetable shops!! :tsk:
I agree... and Shri Sastrigal has abandoned the thread like the rishis abandon the yagna shala when the asuras hijack them.
Very shameful !!!

I do not think Sarma Ji has abandoned the thread.
He did respond to my post yesterday and he is broadminded enough to like what I wrote.
He starts good informative threads but very few people respond to it.

If anyone is so concerned then they should think of making the best use of Mr Sarma and try to learn from him instead of just commenting on the actions of others.

Mr Sarma surely loves feed back from us..but besides me yesterday there was no feedback from anyone else but now since some other members have given their own types of unrelated feedback all members are commenting.

We sure love controversies isn't it?

I feel the dawn is the period for planning, for reading & for creative bursts of energy.

The cool breeze, the chirping of birds & a receptive mind all create a positive ambience that activates the brain...

In fact I remember creative sprouts of may poets & lyricists come alive during this period

Dear sir,

I agree..This thread can be used by members to discuss the significance of Brahmamuhurtam.
Mr Sarma has given us food for thought.

Keep up the info.

The musicians consider the early mornings as the best time for their practice. We have heard that the vocalists

even stand inside a pool of chill water and do their 'sadhakam' to improve the quality and flexibility of their voices.

The rAgam MAyAmALavagowLa is considered to bring wealth to the house where it is sung or played on any of the

instruments. That is one more reason for the musicians to start their practice with the preliminary lessons which are

usually sung and played in that rAgam.

P.S: With the apartment system widely spread, the musicians may need a sound proof room! :)

Dear Renu,

Please understand me! When the thread was taking off tangentially and going towards 'A' type postings,

it made me feel sad. Hence I intervened. There are so many other threads to discuss such things and

let us not bring in the discussions about '
சிற்றின்பம்' everywhere!

Dear RR ji,

The reason I intervened is also cos I am kind of sick and tired of too many differences we members sometimes have in forum which finally lead to members leaving (I miss VR ji) and some members terminating friendship too.

I just wanted everyone to be as happy as before.

I hope you understand.

Swami Dayananda ( Of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam ) gave the most commonsense usefulness of Getting up at Brahma Muhurtam .
He said at Brahma Muhurtam
1) Noise is less ( except for snoring family members ) :)
2) Atmospheric Pollution due to Vehicles is less
3) No disturbance from other people like Phone Calls , people knocking at doors like Milkman , vegetable vendors , Guests , friends etc

So with the above disturbances not there ,it creates an atmosphere conducive for doing Japa , Parayana , Scriptural study provided we do not disturb others sleeping by our activity .:)

Having said that he said according to Medical Science a person needs 7 hrs of good sleep and hence if you get up at say 4 a..m , you must sleep by 9 a.m which means you need to have food by 7 p.m .
If you go to sleep by 11 p.m or so you will have quite less sleep ( especially if u come after a hard day's work at office ) and if u forcibly get up at 4 a.m to do meditation , you will only end up sleeping during Meditation .:)

So he advised people to be quite pragmatic while choosing to get up during Brahma Muhurtam . Your life style should also co-operate for such a possibility .

and if u forcibly get up at 4 a.m to do meditation , you will only end up sleeping during Meditation .:)
correctly said Mr.Krishna. I have had experience of this discomfort and so started early to bed. BTW if a person does sleep in meditation he might think what wonderful experience he is having, when he starts dreaming in that blissful sleep and might even think he is getting vision in meditation!!!lol.

cheers.

Q. Why we need to be early to bed and early to rise?
Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.
Early rising means waking up before sunrise. Waking up at this time means that the blood circulation in our body and mind is positive. Waking up after sunrise causes negative blood circulation and blood flow becomes sluggish. Late rising also induces baseless and negative dreaming and weakens the immune system.
· The body and mind will stay fresh if you get up before sunrise
· Constipation and indigestion will remain under control
· The mind and mood will remain cheerful throughout the day
· You will have sufficient time to think, plan and organise the day lying ahead of you
· The power and capacity of the mind will increase
· The memory will sharpen
· The eyesight will not get weakened
Getting up early before the Sunrise is a must for the Tamils. (Silappathikaram: 14-5 to 13.)
This is followed still in all rural parts and by a majority in the urban areas.

In his most recent interview to rajdeep sardesai of CNN IBN during his vivekanand yuv ratra, Sri Modi said - when I was a full time RSS pracharak, I used to get up in 'brahnanuhurt" at 3 am. Now, after entering politics, he gets up at 5 am and goes to bed between 11 and 12 pm.

It is generally getting accepted that 6 to 7 hours of sleep is adequate for an adult with regular habits and moderate physical activities.

Some info from wiki:

A University of California, San Diego psychiatry study of more than one million adults found that people who live the longest self-report sleeping for six to seven hours each night.[SUP][27][/SUP] Another study of sleep duration and mortality risk in women showed similar results.[SUP][28][/SUP] Other studies show that "sleeping more than 7 to 8 hours per day has been consistently associated with increased mortality," though this study suggests the cause is probably other factors such as depression and socioeconomic status, which would correlate statistically.[SUP][29][/SUP] It has been suggested that the correlation between lower sleep hours and reduced morbidity only occurs with those who wake naturally, rather than those who use an alarm.

The siesta habit has recently been associated with a 37% reduction in coronary mortality, possibly due to reduced cardiovascular stress mediated by daytime sleep.[SUP][38]
