Hi,

I have a doubt with regard to my son's 1st star birthday. His DOB is 25/Jan/2013 and his birth star is thiruvatharai. Thiruvatharai happens to come twice in the coming THAI maasam. 1st is on 15/Jan/2014 and then on 11/Feb/2014. Out of the two, which one should I consider as his 1st star birthday? Please help me in this regard.
SVs celebrate the second, unless there is some dhosham on that day, then it is the first instance ....

Some people observe the first occurrence while some others go by the second day. You may find out the practice in your family or, if that is not possible, go by what your vaadhyaar (purohit) says.

In 2013,the following important events occurred after 25/1/2013.
1.Thai Poosam on 27/1/2013
2.Saint Thiagaraja Aradanai on 31/1/2013
In 2004,the above events occur on 17/1/2014 and 21/1/2014.
The First Birth anniversary should appropriately be on 15/1/2014

on 11-02-2014 the thiruvaathirai star is there from morning to evening. on 14-01-2014 thiruvaathirar starts from 9. a.m. and ends on 15-01-2014 by 11.a.m. as per our sastras 11-02-2014 is the correct day to celebrate first birthday. The star must be there from sunrise till evening on that day.at least.

As per our family practice, we celebrate the second day of the star.

A good decision!

I refer to post no 6 and request Shri.Gopalan to clarify on what date the first birth anniversary will be celebrated assuming that 'Tiruvadirai' occurs only once on 14/1/2014 from 9 am to 11 am of 15/1/2014.

According to "Paambu Panchangam" Sun enters Makara in the afternoon. This question does not arise in the second date. But family guru, vaadhyar, is the right person. Again celebrating birthday is one thing but doing ayushhomam is another.

Would it really matter? The star birthday does not count for secular purposes, it does not impact your insurance date, your retirement date, when you get senior discounts, or drivers license. So just choose one and be happy.
