Science cannot be supersition. If we take a Dictionary The meaning is:

SU-per-sti-tion (noun)

1.a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge,in or of the ominous significance of a particular thing.
2. a system or collection of such beliefs
3.a custom or act based on such belief
4.irrational fear of what is unknown or mysterious, esp. in connection with religion
5.any blindly accepted belief or notion

Indians have the tendency to rely a lot on astrology & charts when it comes to important matters in life.
This aspect is so deeply ingrained, that even the highly educated people belonging to well-to-do families follow it religiously.
It is a known fact that in India ,when there is an auspicious occasion like wedding,it is not just the union of 2 people but the union of 2 families. And so ,the horoscopes (HORROR SCOPES) need to match. When it comes to Indians & removal of these supersitions, it will merely question the very existence of the people.

The success of science in accurately explaining certain things have made the scientific community arrogant and also complacemnt about the capabilities of science. This has gone to such an extent that any other source of knowledge is regarded with derision and branded as quack science.

Shri Sravna ji,

By default, scientific attitude should eliminate subjectivity as far as possible and should be objective enough to continue to give science the importance it has gained and it deserves. So, if, as you claim, the scientific community has become arrogant and complacent it cannot be science's fault, but the community can be shown down, if any one is able to take it up to do it.

My yardstick for claiming the authenticity of the field is, if even one astrologer can make consistently correct predictions. The field sorely misses both good theorists and good practitioners.

This is the crux of the problem! What stops the astrologers from raising to the occasion?

True! In fact, it is a bane as well as a boon! Superstitions, as long as they don't harm, can be tolerated, if not approved. But a lot of tragedies result, when charlatans posing as great astrologers cause immense havoc in the society. Want proof? Just browse through various channels in all the Indian languages from 6 a.m. to 8.am., where astrologers of various hues and colours and styles predict for any same raasi, diametrically opposite happenings for the day / week / year with immense confidence!

Dear Shri CLN,

I am not denying the truth of the knowledge wrt the reality they are shown to be true. They cannot be shown to be wrong. That's from where the unjustified arrogance and complacency comes in. But science has already started to be perplexed if happenings in modern physics is any indication. It will not be long before science pauses and reevaluates what constitiues a proof of truth. Since the prevailing scholastic atmosphere is pervasively biased towards science, it is hard to motivate anyone to take up research in what have been branded as quack sciences and so stigmatized.

What is "Cigarette" to a finance minister, astrology is to Science and its believers. Astrology does not promise anything to anybody (unfortunately people approach it as if they are going to be benefited). It indicates only tendencies. The people airing predictions know what they are doing. Only the viewers carry themselves by flight. If in some cases astrology has failed Science has that glory, too. Both are restricted to the rules of prakriti.

Some ordinary Compounders have treated many patients satisfactorily when a qualified doctor has failed to attract any patient. If you are a regular reader you will come across findings on certain scientific studies quite contrary to the findings of a couple of decades before. When we were kids, we were told by Science that chocolates are harmful to teeth, now 'they improve the brain's working'. We must decide whether we want the teeth or better working brain, quickly, because another finding is under another set of analyses. No astrologer would say that you leave your commonsense aside.
