Shweta, allegedly involved in a prostitution racket, has reportedly told the police that she turned to the flesh trade because no films were coming her way and she had run out of money. The Task Force sleuths had busted a prostitution racket on August 31 at a hotel in Banjara Hills area, which allegedly involved the actress – Shweta Basu Prasad who had won national award for best child artist (Makdee) in the past.

Balu, an assistant director in Tollywood who acted as her agent, was also arrested. Apparently he collected Rs.1 lakh each from high flying customers. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police N Koti Reddy today said during questioning the actress revealed that she got into prostitution as she was not getting film offers any longer, and was financially in dire straits. “The actress is a victim; she has not been arrested. She has been sent to a rescue home, while Balu was arrested under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act,” Reddy said.

Speaking to Indiatimes about Shweta, Deepika said that there is nothing wrong with it (her involvement in prostitution) if it was the only thing she could do to support herself and family. She said it is unfair to make a scandal about it and said rather than looking down upon her, it was time to get together and support her.

While most celebs have been avoiding to talk about this controversy, Dips has proved that she has a heart of gold.

Ah yes, yet another juicy topic for discussion in the forum. I predict this topic will cross 100 posts. This is my small contribution (to start with). More to come ...

Ok, finally I get to challenge Renukaji.

Everybody needs money for their family. Does everybody become a prostitute? (Or a pornstar for that matter)

Every profession done right is worthy of praise.

After all even in the name of God people are cheated by bogus people.

A sex worker gives the client his/her money's worth.

No cheating..when we go to shops to buy food stuff..some food stuff could be adulterated or even harmful to health done by traders to reap a profit?

Is that Dharma? Nope!

Poor quality material are used in construction and buildings collapse and people die..Is that Dharma?

A astrologer who asks his clients to pay up for unwarranted pariharams instilling fear in the hearts of the masses? Is that Dharma.

A doctor who does abortions and kills fetuses?? Is that Dharma?

Why when it comes to a Sex worker alone everyone wants to call her immoral?

It is a profession taken up by some in times of need for reasons best known to them.

But whatever said and done practice safe sex for both sex worker and client.

The Indian Society is responsible for this.

Would anyone come forward to rehabilitate them?

Sex is indispensable and inevitable one for human beings. Of the two participants, one is for money and the other for pleasure.

From Vedic times, we come across lot of interesting stories related to sex.

During Maharaja times, we have come across that ladies were loaded in ANTHAPURAM; for what - any special pooja - probably for pleasure. It has not left behind Dasaradha and Janaga (father of Sita).

Since sex business does not bring in any money to Govt., it is being treated as a crime and ladies, especially from poor background who are badly in need of money, are caught and treated badly. Is sex so bad compared to drinking and smoking? Drunkards drive their families to streets and smokers put additional pressure on Govt. to spend for cancer treatment. Since both bring lot of money to Govt. in the form of Duties, they have a safe ride.

Prostitution was not illegal in our society before advent of english rule. It was not widely practiced just because it was legal, nor it is absent because it is illegal.

As long as it was 'svadhrama' for the practitioners, it was OK. Recently amish tripathy of 'shiva trilogy' fame, said in a panel interview on women empowerment and men taking lower positions, he commented 'everyone must act as per their svadharma'. His understanding of svadharna is - do what you are good at. His wife is good with technology, computers and numbers, and he is good with management and finance. The couple do not interfere in other's field.
