Glad that you understood my post . I just now saw a tweet from a famous Indian Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar and it goes like this ¨Cooking with love came so naturally to your grandmom that she never found the need to declare it ¨ . I say the same thing with regard to our Charity mentality it comes naturally to pre dominantly to many people that we do not declare it openly . Again when I talk about Charity in Indian Context I do not mean the Cheque Book type of Charity and contributing to charity for getting Tax Benefits etc etc ,I mean the charity of the poor and the low and middle income groups who contribute inspite of their hardships . This might be missing in the current educated Urban India but it is very relevant when you visit the outskirts of the city , the tier-2 and tier-3 cities .
I myself had a wrong opinion about our country but when I traveled to lot of spiritual spots and had a direct experience of annadanam that is still happening in our country and last year paid a week visit to Punjab and I was blown over . In every Gurudwara I went they first asked me to Eat and were upset if I did not eat and told me at least to have tea ,lassi or Kheer . Every Indian must visit at least the Golden Temple in Amritsar to know how non stop food is being served .So I was not surprised when I heard that Golden Temple ( along with other Gurudwaras in Amritsar ) was supplying 50,000 food packets daily to Kashmir for free .
Saint Ramalinga Swamigal ( Vallalar ) started a free food distribution in his Vadalur ¨Satya Dharma Salai " and the fire that he lit in the kitchen more than 150 years back still continues without any interruption . I had also been to Vadalur .
I will share tomorrow a separate indepth article on Annadanam by Gurumurthy .
At the same time I wish to say that we have to learn lot from the West in terms of keeping our surroundings very clean , have an efficient garbage disposal system , maintain punctuality and be more self reliant in day to day tasks etc etc .
