What Renu writes is very true! Doctors can't treat when they are emotional.

My dad who is an expert in giving painless injections, refused to give intravenous drips to my sister's son

who was vomiting profusely and was about to get dehydrated! Dad rushed the kid to the nearest nursing home.

Dear RR ji,

Once when I was in a rural set up..my mum was staying with me and one day she had collapsed at home and I to revive her heart and at one point I remember telling the nurse " be prepared to lose the patient"

At that time I never thought of her as my mother..I only looked at her as a patient whose heart was not beating but thank God with all the intervention I managed to revive her and rushed her to the nearest ICU.

At times of acute emergency..all emotions go out of the door..I had to steel myself cos if I had given in to emotions..she would not be alive today.

BTW I have no problems giving injections to anyone..I used to give all immunizations for my son when he was a baby.

Ok now be ready for this..really funny..just last week one patient accused me of not giving him an injection!LOL

You see I give painless injections and this guy was closing his eyes when I gave him an inejction and he did not feel any pain and then he thought I did not give him the injection and started accusing me of cheating him!

He said "I did not feel any pain..its impossible..you must have cheated me and did not give me the injection"

I showed him the needle ,syringe., vial etc to convince him and I told him next time keep his eyes open!LOL

I am sure you have your make-up kit along with your first aid kit! :becky:

Dear RR ji,

I only use lipstick and no other make up..but you see if I know I might be recorded..I will choose a good dress..ditch my flat shoes and wear high heels..style my hair a bit more than the usual etc.. and also modulate my voice to sound nice!LOL

Probably no need for high heels, Renu! The patient might record you when you give advice sitting on your chair! ;)

Dear RR ji,

You know when you wear high heels even if you are not standing it does add poise and confidence when we are seated.

One sits much better and crosses one legs and to the side and that give a slight twist to the body and in photography or recording that twist takes inches off the image and makes us look slimmer.

You see posing for camera is important too!

We tambrams teach our girls not to sit cross legged unless on the floor! So I don't sit on a chair cross legged!

It is supposed to show disrespect! But new gen girls do cross their legs while sitting on chairs / sofas.

Dear RR ji,

If we wear a skirt..its better to sit cross legged so that there is no peep show!

It depends how we place the legs when we sit cross legged..fold it again sideways so that the crossed leg is not projected forwards.

BTW I find sitting cross legged on the floor kind of not so tastefu for a woman..cos legs are opened.
I never sit cross legged on floor.

Its better to sit with legs placed sideways on floor like this white girl in Salwar Kameez...it looks more demure.

when one wears a Salwar Kameez or Saree its much easier to sit like this white girl on the floor than cross legged cos cross legged on floor is more suited for a male.

Dear Renu,

The posture you like will not be useful while eating 'ialai chAppAdu' which is common in tambram houses! :)

You can only watch others eat! :hungry:

Dear RR ji,

You would be surprised to know that I can eat on the floor sitting sideways...I always ate like that even as a child.

When I worked in rural Malaysia I always was invited for muslim functions where all woman are supposed to sit on the floor and eat from one huge plate.

Since I was veg..my plate would be different and for Malays its a big no no for woman to sit cross legged on the floor.

So one sits sideways and eats..its not too hard..it easy...left hand is placed on floor at times to support body.

So when I eat Banana leaf food on floor I eat sideways cos I dont like sitting cross legged in public.

The only time I sit cross legged is when I am exercising alone.

hi
hahaaaaaaaa...A VERY BIG AND LEGTHY DISCUSSION ABT CROSS LEG SITTING....LOL

Well you can always uncross legs Sharon Stone style!

Quick Quick..go to You Tube to see Basic Instinct interrogation scene!LOL

Dear Renu,

I think it depends on the way we are brought up! If I sit in the way you have described,

I may have to land in a hospital to treat my sprain!

Dear RR ji,

No need to go to hospital for any back sprain..just do this Yoga Pose and all pain sprain goes off and makes a person flexible enough to turn and twist at any angle.

IMO, a law should be made that, if the patient chooses, a video conversation could be recorded, as it would then be a valid legal evidence in case of an error in diagnosis.

Doctors can easily get away with wrong diagnosis and wrong treatment in India!

I have already written about the wrong treatment that one of our family members received in Sing. Chennai! :tsk:

I have noted that many people like to find fault with doctors and their service!LOL

When I was working at a government hospital once I used to see almost 100 patients from 8 am to 4pm at the general out patient department and sometimes have to miss our meals too and yet patients used to think they have to wait so long to see us and find fault with service etc.

But when it comes to lining up in any other government department everyone is quiet and silent and no one keeps complaining!LOL

Actually come to think of it..its easier being a Sex Worker than a doctor..I dont think a Sex workers customers complain so much as patients complain of a doctor!

The Sex worker is also not sued in court for underperformance.etc.

No one makes formal complaints that they were overcharged by a sex worker.

Customers never complain about long waiting hours in case their preferred sex worker is in consultation with another customer!

The customer agrees to the rate before jumping into action!LOL

I've got many close Malay friends and have been to their "kampungs" (village) in rural Kedah/Perlis/NS (Msian states) and we all sit cross legged only on the floor to eat. I've never heard of this no no that you're referring to! if you say you don't prefer it ok, accepted but to say its a no no when we are actively encouraged to sit that way in Malay households is ingenuous IMO. In fact if we sit in that sideways like that white lady they tend to laugh and say are we so westernised. In school we've all had to sit cross legged numerous times too.

Hello Amma,

Havent you heard about the terminology "duduk bersila" and "duduk bersimpuh"?

If you have heard that then you know what I mean.

Its a strict No No to sit cross legged.

I had worked in rural areas of Pahang where elephants used to cross the roads at Kampung Chemor and Jengka 14 etc..real rurals jungle ok visiting the natives in jungle etc...not some place you had gone with your town friends when they balik kampung.

In our school in Pahang the teachers taught us to sit with legs put aside as it is more decent.

May be your school was some town school in KL and not semi rural like where I studied.

Dear Amala and Renu,

Sitting crossed legged on the floor is taught to tambram girls, right from the young age.

We used to get scolded if we sit sideways as the lady in the picture! That is why I said it is the way we are brought up!

There is another special posture for a bride to sit down. It is with the right leg as in the cross legged posture and the left leg

folded upwards with the foot horizontal on the floor! The left hand should not go around the left leg and should be kept inwards!

It is quite a difficult posture because we tend to hold the left leg with our left hand going around it! :D

But surprisingly, most of the ladies who have crossed middle age sit down on the floor in this posture when they eat 'ilai chAppadu',

while youngsters sit cross legged and eat. After all it is much easier than doing 'PadmAsanA'!

Yes Sir! But the Bharathanatyam dancers have to start the basis steps with 'arai mandi' posture! :)

except the fat ones :) who would find it a problem to perform arai madi (in talayalam) or arai mandi (in tamil). :)

here is one without any mandi or madi..take your pick.
