The most difficult thing is to practice what we preach and the essence of spirituality is practicing what all we preach. Understanding is only the tip of practising. So the real disparity among people is not in terms of intelligence but in terms of spirituality as brilliantly identified and practised in the varna system.
I somehow feel the Varna system promotes bodily indentification and we force ourselves to fit in the Varna mould when we can make better choices for ourselves.
For eg, in the Mahabharat..Yuddhishtira could have chosen NOT to gamble..gambling is a vice.
But the reason all of them gambled is because it isnt forbidden for a Kshatriya to gamble.
But honestly..even if one is a Kshatriya why drag one's self down by engaging in vice?
Gambling and alcohol are vices.
It might not be culturally forbidden for a Kshatriya hence to keep up with Kshatriya varna dharma one forces himself to gamble?
Get what I mean?
Why wrongly identify the body with a dharma of a varna and make choices that could be disastrous?
Yuddhisthira surely had the option to identify with his atma instead of his varna and refuse to gamble.
One can ask himself .." Is gambling spiritually conducive? Does it reflect divine nature?"
The answer is No!
Next question.." But according to Kshatriya varna dharma its allowed?"
Answer " The atma has no Varna..so reflect Atmic values and not bodily values"
Question " But wouldnt that be running away from one's varna duties?"
Answer " Kshatriyas are meant to uphold dharma when needed..gambling doesnt uphold dharma"
Get what I mean?
Why on earth force ourselves to behave according to varna dictates and make wrong choices in life?
