Today's (Jan,14,2012) issue of "Deccan Herald" carries a disturbing article on the condition of poor people in some parts of Orissa (Odisha) villages. With all the Poverty alleviation programs of Center and State Governments, "in many remote villages of Orissa women struggle to keep starvation at bay by feeding their families dried mango kernels, tamarind seeds, wild mushrooms and roots". Obviously the benefits of huge amounts spent in the names of MNREGA, ICDS, FSB and other schemes have not reached the poor under the State PDS to BPL families!!!

Fighting hunger with seeds and roots
Let us hope the Governments look into this appalling condition of our own citizens and take some immediate steps to feed the poor. It is a cruel irony, that other-day, the men in power were discussing about the nutritional value of food taken by the people in India, instead.
