Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, Mathematician, author and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge born on January 8, 1942 turns 72 today. Stephen Hawking is regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Einstein.
He is a living example of indominable spirit of man who faught against deteriorating disability, and continued his studies. "In 1963, Hawking contracted motor neurone disease and was given two years to live. Yet he went on to Cambridge to become a brilliant researcher and Professorial Fellow at Gonville and Caius College. From 1979 to 2009 he held the post of Lucasian Professor at Cambridge, the chair held by Isaac Newton in 1663. Professor Hawking has over a dozen honorary degrees and was awarded the CBE in 1982. He is a fellow of the Royal Society and a Member of the US National Academy of Science. In spite of being wheelchair bound and dependent on a computerised voice system for communication Stephen Hawking continues his research into theoretical physics together with an extensive programme of travel and public lectures. He hopes to make it into space one day."
His masterpiece "A Brief History of Time "– one of the iconic books of the twentieth century.
Please join me in wishing a Happy Birthday to Stephen Hawking who said “Although I cannot move and I have to speak through a computer, in my mind I am free.”
