When airport authorities of Delhi installed Surya Deva in the airport some people were unhappy because this Surya is not a Bharatiya, but a South East Asian!!! He looks like a Buddhist Surya. I took these photos when I went to India last week.

I wonder why people need to be unhappy??

The Sun is a Star..There is no such thing as Buddhist Surya or Hindu Surya.

Stars do not have religion.

Every figurine is an artist impression...so far I dont think anyone went to the sun to see how it really looks like!

There is lot of effort to promote buddhist tourism, and many buddhist monuments under ASI are getting renovated. Japanese government too is funding many projects. Perhaps delhi airport got some japanese money.

As long as it represents some culture and is not offensive, there need not be any objection.

Very sensible observation. I agree with the sentiment expressed in this post. Thanks Mr. Sarang.

Kisne deki theri Surat, Kaun baneye theri Murat.

I probably would not recognize any of them godheads unless of course they come as painted by Raja Ravi Varma. (I am partial LOL). Saraswati Must come in White Sari, and Lakshmi must wear red sari.

.......... Is that sun god or Vishnu? Or vaisnav sun? I thought it should be 7 white horses. Too many questions. ...
Dear Prasad Sir,

I have heard the name 'Soorya Narayanan' and not 'Soorya Sivan' or 'Soorya Haran' so far!!
What does it mean?? BTW you must be knowing that Saivaites pray Haran and Hari with equal bhakthi!! :pray2:

And the brown horses might have been added to enable the counting easier! :D

Dear RR ji,

My son when he was small asked me why are there are 7 horses for Surya Bhagawan and I told him that each horse represents one color of the spectrum of light like in a rainbow.

So then he drew the same pic as above(he draws very well) and colored each horse according to the each color of the rainbow.

One horse was red,one was orange, one was blue and so on.

When you say Saivaites you mean Smarthas. As smarthas we do not distinguish between shiva and vishnu. But it is not same with Veer Saivates, or lingaites.
