Sunday Reflection

Vinayaka Chathurthi I remember my visit to Ganapathy Agraharam and ஈசங்குடி few years back . Even today this Agraharam is fully preserved by Brahmins living there The Maha ganapathy temple is well maintained - Kanchi Mutt has special interest - Mahaperiavals maternal house is in ஈசங்குடி ! - Vedapadasala is run there under Mutt's guidance.
Even I have visited once there during chathurthi and in that village all people will celebrate Vinayaka chaturthi only in temple and not in houses. That was a real festive devotion and gala time for us who visit there without knowing much about it. Afterwards I have visited this place many times on the way to Kumbakonam/Mayiladuthurai.

It was wonderful to listen to' Vatapi' in Hamsadwani by veteran K.J.Y. on the Vinayaka chaturthe times.
Also 'Mahaganapathim ' on the festival day.
It is said that 'Pillayar' is worshipped even by Vishnu ,Sivan and he is ' Muzhumudarkadavul'
our mythological histrories are quite interesting ,but we need to be aware of the correct version from
proper sources.

Vatapi Ganapathy - The one brought from Vatapi as war bounty by சிறு தொண்டர் is in his birthplace திருசெங்காட்டான்குடி - The song by Muthusamy Dikshidar is actually sung in praise Vatapi Ganapathy idol in Tiruvarur Temple near Kamalalyam tank.

For undiluted Vaishnava it is only Narayana - other Gods are lesser Gods! Pillaiyar with a namam is only an Alwar less than a lesser God!

There is another story I heard why vaishnavites too worship Vinayaka

Lakshmi had requested Parvathi to give one child as தத்து as she had two children and to oblige the request Parvathi had given pillayar to Lakshmi as thathu and hence pillayar is son of Lakshmi too.

It is Monday and start of a new week.
Time to move on with life.
Jj ji 's posting reminded me that we have file IT returns.
Now we have to decide which ITR 1 to 6 to file.
Filing of returns is made easier by IT dept by pre filling of forms.
This time I decided that I will do away with IT consultants and do online filing.
Our next generation is smart enough to help me do that.
I found it interesting that my short time capital losses are made up by my spouse's long time bets.
She has to pay long term xapital gains tax while I have short term capital losses with no tax.
Moral of the story._ Do nothing in a volatile market .Sit on what shares you have and make a fortune

Stay put! சுக்ரதிசை கூரைய பிச்சுண்டு தானா அடிக்கும்!

I shudder everytime RBI governor or Fm appears with new annoucements.
It is either changes in interest rates or new GST annoucement reducing rate for some items.
We have seen the governor to day. Waiting for
FM next.
3% GST on sale of pld ornaments likely .So excange old jewels and pay tax.
Similarly taking oit tax of 28% on 2 wheelos and having 18%
So mobikes to become slightly cheaper.
Sanitisers may be made cheaper.
GAS PRICES may be lowered.
Shares to speculate IGL Bajaj auto Herohonda.
How the markets behave .is interesting.
If banks and housing finance shares go up then others like enginers india mtals IT go down.
If banks go down others pick up.
So keep rotating money in sectors and be happy
Buy high dividend shares before results .Collect dividend and sell off promptly

These days most women end up with cessarion section for delivery and have infection bleeding and scars. Most are knowledgeable and share their bad experiences.
For men with ligament tear or minor fracture of hip
for senior citizen have similar experience after surgery. They end up with infection and anti biotic cycles.
It is difficult to meet normal healthy senior citizen
In delhi local sikhs in gurudwara provide physio therapy for nominal cost of 50 rs per sitting
Maximum women with frozen shoulders land up there.
Otherwise treatment in hospitals are expensive .

How lifestyles of married boys have changed with marriage to economically independant working women
They are forced to wash dishes ; clean the home , share baby sitting duties , be errand boys for shopping carry luggage and just tag along to places they are not comfortable with
Most mothers woild shed tears to see whar their boys have been reduced to.
Most boys may be tough professionals in office but in home they are treated pretty shabbily.
Brahmin boys are mostly docile and they mostly
Put up with it.I pity them and thank God that I belong to another generation .

What constitutes a good marriage.?
These are days of love marriage and live in relationships. Some culminate in marriage and others break up with bad feelings.
Once one drifts into marriage it becomes a different ball game. Living 24by 7 with one more person is a challenge.
For many to adjust , give and take and putting up with extended families is a difficult task.
Most carry on for want of a better alternative .
Then if there are children most divert their attention to them or career is a good diversion.
In india breaking up is not viewed with favour.
So one just does not do anything to make any changes which could harm the relationship further

Some member posted here wanting to keep the brahmin community together observing all the old ritual and practices.
I thought he was living in a dream world of his own.
We as humans are mixing up fast with humans of other castes and religion.
We are spread over many countries that there are inter racial alliances.
We m
Need to absorb the good or convenient from such alliance and behave with consideration towards all to become happier.
Shall we see such things in our lifetime. It is a pious wish.?

The Tamil Brahmin community has suffered unfair marginalization in their home state of Tamil Nadu (known as Madras State between Independence and 1967, and a part of the Madras Presidency during British Colonial rule).

- This marginalization is evidenced by the emigration of Tamil Brahmins such as Shyamala Gopalan (in 1958, I add), former PepsiCo CEO Indira Nooyi (in 1978, I add) and current Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai (in 1993, I add) – these three examples being named among many unnamed others, including two Nobel Laureates.

- The emigration of these named and unnamed Tamil Brahmins who are significant achievers has been a significant loss to…presumably their state of origin, Tamil Nadu, and India.

- This marginalization-driven emigration is the result of a) Socialism (pan-India, post-Independence), and b) Identity Politics that has been a hallmark of Tamil politics since the early 20th century.

- Which leads to the policy lessons he implies: Socialism and Identity Politics are bad for a people/state/country – evidenced presumably by poor developmental outcomes for Tamil Nadu, though Dhume does not cite any statistics at all.

Like most brahmins got exposed to classical indian music both north and south indian.
In covid times one can get to hear on facebook and you tube postings the best of both forms
Tamilbnadu is the only state with regular sabhas and concerts in some months of the year.
Aradhana at samadhi of thyagaraja is an event to look forward.
Similarly in north we have the Tansen festival. We have gharanas or schools of performing.Kirana being most well known.
I miss sabha hopping in chennai during music season and having the most delicious food at the sabhas during breaks.
This year covid has killed everything
Another thing that brahmins value most is education. Now this year it is only onlinecupto oct or nov.
NEET is far away may be in oct or nov.
We value meritocracy . We disdain reservation for any class of people
The value of brahmins is realised by central govt where many are advisers to govt.
They are not there on basis of any quota
These are our basic values .

Not many may be aware.thst Uttarakhand has as many as 20% population who are brahmins while sc constitute only 19%.
This is based on NSDS study of 2007.
Even in Tamil nadu it could have been sizeable.if it had not made many to migrate
Only TN has lost due to thst.
We have spread all over india and abroad.
We have only a sentimental attachment as our forefathers are from there.
I presume we cannot settle back there .
We are slowly identifying as indians than by our caste.
Yet we partially maintain our identity Dress ; food habits festivals language mode of worship.
We have adapted also to life by mixing with local people and sharing their joys and sorrows.
Since we are passive and not easily
provoked we gain easy acceptability.

Our next generation has no fine feelings for TN.It is ok for them to visit there to know about their roots. Nothing more than that.

R

I am comfortable with lakhs & crores But some companies work out their annual statement & balance sheets in millions and I am taken off guards. I think it is deliberately done to take you for a ride when in India lakhs and crores in use. Zero confusion with lakhs & crores but confused about zeros in millions

I wonder can you write a cheque for ₹. One million (1,000,000) instead of 10 lakhs (10,00,000)?

Marginalisation and curtailing of educational opportunities to middle class brahmins in the sixties in Tamilnadu could explain their migration to other countries.Normally this could have been averted
if their place of birth had provided them opportunities for their bread and butter. Our Acharyas discourage us crossing oceans as this means compromise on our cultural rhythm.
The pan India opportunities for them was also to move places like Bombay for private jobs or banks
or Delhi for IAS and allied services and UPSC or military openings, Railways had their role attracting
the talents in their services.what has been the loss of Tamilnadu of this talent pool had been a gain for
others. This has in a way broken up our strong cultural milieu as well brought several changes
in parental and wards' attitude to marriage, families and social obligations.

Only TN lost by movement of TB from TN.
The changes in lifestyles of these brahmins in food habits( wheat instead of rice) dress besides more interactions with other communities and religeous background lead to a more liberal mindset.
Besides TN became a distant land and past .Tamil Festivals got moderated to become less ritualistic to more what was easily possible Not many would like to go back to TN by choice.

Today I got a feed back from my sister who took a flight from pune to delhi .she is 70 plus.
The flight A 320 was full .Check in was contact less.Double mask both cloth and plastic for all provided. Check in baggage was to be done by themselves. In delhi one could walk out collecting bags without hassles .She could take a pre paid taxi home. She says it was more comfortable than normal times

Today I felt encouaged to return to delhi after positive feedback from my sister.
I think return to normalcy is faster than expected
May be we can start with shopping locally in nearby shopping centres.
Start going to ATMs and local eating places.
Buy some clothes and accessories.
Of course masks may be mandatory.
We can feel mentally more free.
We can avoid reading about negative news items and horror stories of death of some.
Death rates are less than normal times.
Only covid got too much pubicity .

One lady tested positive in BBMP camp in our apartment block. She got herself retested in a reputed testing lab and wa
s found negative.
Minor damage done. All avoid her and her family
These are exceptional cases.
