Dear Seniors and Friends, We are in a process of making a Pooja Shelf in our new apartment. We do not like the Madapam type that generally North Indians keep, which will be accommodating one or two idols only. We look for keeping several Swami pictures. The major concern is whether we could have doors for the swami shelf? Some say it should not be closed. Generally people have closed doors either with bell holes or with glass. Please suggest us, so that we can direct the carpenter accordingly. Thanks and regards, Anand.

These days, even temples are closed for worship during the afternoon hours. So, going ahead on a shelf with doors is not something to be anxious about. Closed doors with bell holes is a good alternative and was my choice years ago when I made one . You could also make the doors fold back on the side, so that you can keep the front of the shelf open as long as you want.
