May be this is viewed as reactionary! What is the contribution of historians with leftist hue..Look at the stories created by these guys sitting in JNU...Aryan invasion theory is their find...They are a bunch of people wedded to Marxist ideology!

Swamy Calls For Burning of Books of 'Nehruvian Historians'

Oct 6, 2014

Dr. Subramanian Swamy reportedly called for "burning of books" by "Marxist, Muslim and Western historians" at a seminar organised by RSS-backed ABISY (Akhil Bharatiya Itihaas Sankalan Yojana), held to pay tribute to Maharaja Hemchandra Vikramaditya, 'a forgotten Hindu emperor'.

At the seminar, Dr. Swamy said that books written by "Nehruvian historians", like Bipin Chandra and Romila Thapar, should be set afire.Swamy also said that Muslims should give up claims to the disputed lands at Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura, and batted for construction of temples at the sites.
"Even if the government does not do anything, I will," he reportedly said.

I hate to see anyone burning books of any kind.Any kind of knowledge..good or bad should not be hidden from anyone. One should read everything and then decide what to imbibe and what to discard.

The swan separates milk from water(as the saying goes)..the swan does not set fire to the milk!

Its weird to see that Swami saying this..I thought books are considered Saraswati..how come Swami says burn!

May be some books are Saraswati and some books are not?

Doesnt India have a Internal Security Act to handle cases like this?

Why does Swami want to stir anti Muslim sentiment in India..he is only inviting ISIL.

I think Modi is trying hard to show every community and religion that he is being fair and square to everyone and Swami is going to ruin it.

I read Romila thapars book on history for the school lower classes

excellent book .kept my interest from cover to cover .

thats how history books need to be written

my interest in history went up after reading the book.

if SS is able to talk freely in india , it is because of the democratic institutions that nehru built up

the shape ,he cast the foreign policy , people are unable to change it much in sixty years.

people like SS are not to be taken seriously

one can enjoy his politics. it makes humorous reading , his speeches can make it to mad magazine

I wonder if Swamy wants to be PM?

Why is he trying to paint a picture that the government might not act and he will take action?

He seems to want to prove that he is more radical than even the present government.

He has a huge fan following in Hindu Jagruti Samaj.

May be he wants to be PM.

Mind reader? Wrong as usual. He has a mission, he has stated it thousand times in various forums in india and abroad, does not duck or hide, ready to answer all queries with facts and proof.

He went to court when a village in tamilnadu became muslim majority, and treated the hindus badly, imposed sharia and restrictions on hindus. The village was bifurcated to save the hindus.

He has identified areas in bengal, tamilnadu and assam for starting virat hindu groups. It is needless to say that hindus are non violent and rely more on words than on swords.

I somehow never trust an extremist of any kind. Most of the while there is a hidden personal ambition that gives them the driving force.

That is fine, you are not obliged to trust or support him. He works under the laws of the country, fights issues legally and not by public protest or riots, willing to discuss and debate; SriSri Ravishankar and many with diverse backgrounds agree with him on many issues.

Sir,

I think you are referring to this village:

Swamy seeks bifurcation of town panchayat in Vellore

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has filed a public interest litigation petition seeking bifurcation of the Melvisharam town panchayat in Vellore district and creation of Keelvisharam alias Rasathpuram as a separate village panchayat. The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice K. Chandru, before which the matter came up for admission on Wednesday, directed Government Pleader Raja Kalifulla to get instructions and more details from the Government. It adjourned the proceedings to December 20.

Dr. Swamy contended that about 11,000 people living in the Keelvisharam region of the town panchayat suffered religious discrimination and were being denied basic amenities. Residents of the Keelvisharam region, which had only four wards as against 17 in the revenue village of Melvisharam, were unable to become civic body chiefs.
"Though the people have complained about the non-availability of facilities in Keelvisharam for so many years, authorities have not taken any action till date."

Dr. Swamy prayed for a direction to the Rural Development Department and the Vellore District Collector to immediately provide drinking water facilities, road and other basic amenities to the Keelvisharam village.

The Supreme Court’s Order

November 9, 2009 is a significant day in the religious, political and demographic history of India in general and Tamil Nadu in particular. The Supreme Court directed the Tamil Nadu government to consider within three months the representations filed by “Keel-visharam” (Lower Visharam) villagers for the de-merger of their Panchayat from the “Mel-visharam” (Upper Visharam) Panchayat of Vellore district and forward them to the Governor to act upon. The SC Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam also directed the Tamil Nadu government to communicate the same to Janata Party president Dr. Subramaniam Swamy, a respondent in the case.

Yes sir, thank you. The conditions in that village were really bad. Recently, again in deep south, a village with muslim majority had a board at the border, restricting entry of non muslims.

Maybe he is an attention seeker. A condemned man can still do some thing good to the society. Why not Swamy? I am afraid he does not think that every body makes the world. Best wishes for his good works.

Swamy’s remarks on Nehruvian historians are unacceptable
Hindustan Times
He does it to shock, to stay in the news. But when BJP leader Subramanian Swamy goes out of his way to spew venom on academics and Muslims, the party ought to tell him off. For months now, after he joined the BJP, the so-called maverick leader has been hitting out at all and sundry from Pakistan to Muslims to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. His latest bugbear is the historical works of Nehruvian and Leftist historians like Bipan Chandra and Romila Thapar. Their works, he feels, should be burnt. It is all too easy to dismiss him as a rent-a-quote politician, but many in the BJP's mentor organisation and other fringe Hindu groups like the VHP and Bajrang Dal will agree with Mr Swamy. The very fact that someone like Dina Nath Batra, with his bizarre views on akhand Bharat and 'westernised' birthdays, could get his books included in the Gujarat school curriculum shows that there are many takers for this kind of regressive thinking.

The two historians targeted by Mr Swamy are considered among the finest in the world, so it is passing strange that the BJP leader should prescribe destroying their works. This penchant to ban books seems to appeal to a particular brand of inward-looking politician whether it is an Aditya Thackeray or Mr Swamy. Now there are many loose cannons who will want bans or proscriptions on several things. The government of the day has a duty to distance itself from these, if the proponents happen to be from the ruling party, and take action against them if they cross the line and incite people to take the law into their hands.

In any modern society, there can always be several interpretations of history, it is for the reader to pick and choose. The freedom of choice cannot be curtailed because a certain view does not fit into the cookie cutter culture that some are attempting to foist on us. India is pluralistic, inclusive and multi-cultural. That is our great strength. People like Mr Swamy who try to make India a unidimensional country, intolerant of the points of view of all sections of people, be they historians or painters, are doing us a great disservice. The prime minister has made it clear that his vision for India is not a restricted one. In which event, it becomes incumbent on his government to rein in the likes of Mr Swamy. He must be told to stay within the party line before he does any further damage to our already fragile society.

I know the party mouth piece will get his side of the story.
India is a multi cultural society, it will be mistake to paint it saffron.
