Shocking! What sort of an husband is he! Suffering from inferiority complex?? The girl should have faced it squarely instead of burning her own face! The husband should be booked for cruelty!!

PILIBHIT: When Rekha Lodhi married Nirmal Kumar six years ago, she was all her neighbourhood and fawning in-laws could talk about. A pretty and smart woman, Rekha impressed everyone with her charm and her ability to strike a rapport with everyone.

But very shortly, the fanfare proved too costly for the young woman.

Two years into their marriage, Nirmal began taunting her for being "too beautiful" for her own good. He would get angry about Rekha "attracting unwanted attention" from his friends and relatives. Soon, her father-in-law, someone Rekha regarded as a father since her own passed away when she was 10, started echoing his son. Pushed into a corner and fed up with the taunts, Rekha, all of 30, decided to do something to dodge the attention she invariably drew everywhere. Rekha burnt her face.

On Wednesday, shocked doctors at SS Hospital, where she is admitted, said Rekha was out of danger but added that she had been disfigured for life.

According to surgeon Dr Saurabh Agrawal, she had sustained 20 to 25% burns. Talking from her hospital bed, Rekha said she could handle the slights till they came from her husband alone. "But it became too much when my father-in-law joined in. It became impossible for me to fight both my husband and him," she said.

Though Rekha has refused to get her husband booked, her mother wants him brought to justice for the "mental torture" he inflicted on his wife. "My daughter was always jovial and benevolent towards others," Ramkumari told TOI, "See what they have made her do to herself."

Circle officer (city) Nirmal Kumar Visht said police was waiting for a written complaint from either Rekha or Ramkumari to take action. "We will ensure there is no pressure on Rekha to withhold her complaint," he added.

Stupid woman! She should have divorced her cruel husband and made herself free from this useless bondage! :peace:

I dont get it with some men...if they have a beautiful wife they feel inferior..if they have a plain wife they feel ashamed of her.

I dont know why this girl disfigured her own face..she should have divorced him and married a better looking man.

Now she is disfigured..I am sure she would be just kicked out of the in laws house.

She took a too drastic step..too much pressure..I guess she could not handle it.

That is why its better for a bride and groom to be equals in looks so that no problem arises.
