[h=3]After lifetime with the poor, Mother Teresa speeds to sainthood[/h] By Crispian Balmer VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Affectionately called the "saint of the gutters" during her lifetime, Mother Teresa of Calcutta will be made an official saint of the Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, just 19 years after her death. A Nobel peace prize winner, Mother Teresa was one of the most influential women in the Church's 2,000-year history, acclaimed for her work amongst the world's poorest of the poor in the slums of Kolkata. Hundreds of thousands of faithful are expected to attend the canonisation service for the tiny nun, which will be led by Pope Francis in front of St. Peter's basilica.

Pink Floyd is special and unique... have no doubts!! :thumb:

[h=3]Flying pigs and prisms: Pink Floyd expo to open at London's V&A[/h] By Jeremy Gaunt LONDON (Reuters) - A pink inflatable pig the size of a bus floated above London's venerable Victoria and Albert museum on Wednesday but unlike an infamous outing above Battersea Power Station in 1976 it did not break free and ground planes at Heathrow. One of the many globally recognisable emblems of Pink Floyd, along with prisms and marching hammers, the pig was flying to mark the launch of "The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains", a retrospective to be hosted at the museum next May. That date marks 50 years since the band released its first single "Arnold Layne". The exhibition is designed to celebrate that, along with Pink Floyd's achievements in graphics, design, architecture, staging, lighting, film and photography.

[h=3]SC issues notice to Maha Govt. over beef ban[/h] New Delhi [India], Sept.2 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Maharashtra Government on its complete ban on beef and its export in the state. The apex court had last week issued notice to the BJP-led state government on a petition challenging a Bombay High Court order, permitting consumption of beef brought from states that allow cow slaughter. The Bombay High Court in May upheld the ban on slaughter of bulls and bullocks in Maharashtra, while making it clear that mere possession of beef of animals slaughtered outside the state cannot invite criminal action.

We are lucky to have known a Saint and proud that she chose to serve the Indians! :)

  • [h=3]Mother Teresa: The making of a saint[/h] Mother Teresa will be officially declared a saint at the Vatican on Sunday, September 4. It was my privilege to be present in Rome for her beatification on October 19, 2003. Despite the weather forecast for a rainy day, the skies remained clear. Did one need another miracle? The ancient tradition of the Church, however, requires two scientifically proven extraordinary acts (miracles) attributed to the person that natural causes could not explain and which should have occurred due to prayer to the person being considered for sainthood. One miracle is required for beatification — a pre-requisite for sainthood, and the second similarly proved for canonisation. Since both science and theology have

[h=3]Kerry urges Pakistan to push harder against extremists[/h] U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Pakistan had made progress in the fight against extremism in recent months, but urged Islamabad to push harder against militants hiding within its borders as tensions with neighbourng India rise amid more violence in the disputed region of Kashmir. "It is clear that Pakistan has work to do in order to push harder against its indigenous groups that are engaged in extremist activities," Kerry said on Wednesday, the second day of a visit to India. Kerry said the United States had made it clear to Islamabad that it needs to act against groups such as the Taliban-linked Haqqani network and Lashkar-e-Taiba that are suspected of operating from Pakistan to launch attacks against its neighbours India and Afghanistan.
