Man held after deadly king cobras smuggled into U.S. in potato chip cans

Customs officers made a startling discovery earlier this year while inspecting a package on its way to a Monterey Park apartment: three highly venomous king cobra snakes, each about 2 feet long, hidden in potato chip cans. On Tuesday, the alleged intended recipient - Rodrigo Franco, 34 - was arrested on a federal smuggling charge after a monthslong investigation that also involved the seizure of a young crocodile, three alligator snapping turtles and five diamond back terrapins, all of which are protected species, federal officials said. For months, according to federal court records, Franco used WhatsApp, a smartphone messaging platform, to negotiate shipments of snakes and turtles to and from Hong Kong. In March, authorities intercepted the package with the three deadly snakes along with three albino Chinese soft-shelled turtles.

Please don't scare us by talking about the demise of earth! :nono:

[h=3]Last Ever Total Solar Eclipse Will Take Place in 600 Million Years as the Moon Recedes from Earth[/h] The total solar eclipse on 21 August will be the first to pass across the whole of the U.S., from the Pacific to the Atlantic, in 99 years. While the demise of Earth is predicted to happen around seven billion years from now, when the expanding sun engulfs and destroys our planet, life forms will see the last total solar eclipse much sooner than then-around 600 million years from now. This is because the moon is slowly moving away from Earth, disrupting the intricate balance that causes the sun’s light to be blocked out.

[h=3]Woman 'kicked off flight and arrested for giving business class blanket to son in economy'[/h] A mother has claimed she and her family were marched off a flight and arrested after she tried to give a complimentary business class blanket to her son in economy. Sara Celeste Farfan Garcia made the accusation against Panamanian airline Copa Airlines after a flight from Panama City to Lima, Peru, in June. Garcia, who claimed she was a member of the airline’s loyalty scheme, said she was booked into business class, where customers are given free blankets, but her son, along with other relatives, was sat in economy. When she went to pass a blanket to her child, Garcia said she was confronted by a flight attendant who prevented her from doing so, before “verbally assaulting and pushing her”. Copa Airlines is the flag carrier of Panama Credit: Getty Garcia made the accusations in a Facebook post, in which she said she was “extremely affected and indignant” after “abuse” from the cabin crew. Garcia said the flight attendant called the police, who came to escort the family off the flight. She also claimed the member of the cabin crew feigned injury by “limping” to suggest Garcia had hurt her. Garcia said she is beginning a legal process for compensation from the airline for the “psychological damage that was caused to my child” by being taken from a plane to a police car before behind held in a police station. In a statement Copa Airlines denied Ms Garcia’s account, and accusing her of being “disruptive and aggressive towards the crew member and supervisor, who fulfilled her duties correctly”. “As a result of this situation, our crew member suffered a physical injury, later corroborated by the doctor who attended to her after landing the flight,” the airline said. “Therefore, on the same day, a legal complaint was filed against the passenger. This complaint can be found in the Sixth Peace Court of El Callao, in Lima, Peru, that has jurisdiction of this case. Are these the world's worst airlines? “Additionally, the incident narrated in the video about a blanket being taken away from a minor did not occur as reported. Key details of this event have been omitted by the passenger. “Furthermore, Copa Airlines never threatened the passenger with the possibility of an arrest for having given her son a business class blanket. The police’s presence on the airplane after landing, which was captured on one video, was only due to a security procedure that was activated as a consequence of the passenger’s behaviour. “Copa Airlines deeply regrets that a situation like this transpired on one of our aircraft and apologises to passengers on flight CM761 who witnessed the incident. Cases like this are totally uncharacteristic of our operations. To this effect, we would like to reiterate to all our passengers that they are our top priority and therefore, we will continue to focus and work to guarantee their safety and provide them with the service and attention they deserve.”

[h=3]Bride 'pulls gun out of wedding dress and points it at groom's head' [/h] This couple’s honeymoon period is definitely over. Weddings are meant to be a time for love and celebration, but a bride’s big day was ruined when she was arrested on assault charges over an alleged gun incident. Tennessee bride Kate Prichard allegedly pulled a gun out of her wedding dress and put it to her groom’s head during a drunken motel argument, just hours after the wedding. The 25-year-old pointed the 9mm handgun at her new husband James Burton’s head and pulled the trigger, however it was not loaded, police say. The bride (not pictured) was arrested on her wedding day Credit: Reuters Police were called to the scene after the new bride then loaded the gun and fired it in the air, it is alleged. “She pulled out of her wedding dress, a 9mm pistol. Pointed it at her husband’s head and pulled the trigger,” Sgt. Kyle Evans from the Murfreesboro Police Department told NewsChannel 5. “[The] responding officer let the husband know the honeymoon was over and his new wife was going to jail. “Both were very uncooperative with authorities. It was actually a witness who pointed us in the right direction,” he added. Prichard has been charged with aggravated domestic assault. Desperate bride marries wedding guest instead of groom
