A new-born elephant cried for five hours after being rejected by its mother. Vets made the decision to separate them after the mother stepped on the youngster, initially hoping that it was just an accident. However, after being reunited two hours later the mother attacked its baby again. The calf was described as being very upset, sobbing under a blanket before it was consoled by the keeper who had saved him at the animal reserve in China.

That explains why very young children carry a blanket to their play school.
