Think or sink!

Dear VR ji,

I had a strange dream last nite..in My dream I was in some other country God knows where..then I saw many people holding bananas and I went to see what was going on.

I saw that people were trying to feed a monkey.

Ok this monkey was standing upright like a human...around may be around 5 feet 6 and was lean ..dark brown in color and had black hair on its body.

But the monkey could speak like a human and spoke good English.

Then the monkey asked the people around him saying 'So you all want me to eat these bananas..Ok I will eat it"

Then the monkey started eating the bananas peeling the skin and eating it like a very polished human with good table manners.

Then the monkey thanked everyone for the bananas.

I stood there wondering why is the crowd treating the monkey like a monkey when he was so human? I felt that he was so polished and refined that I did not want to treat him like a monkey and felt he was more human than anyone else.

But the crowd only saw him as a monkey and was still throwing bananas at him.

Dear Renu,
Anything can happen in a dream!
That is what makes all dreams fascinating except the
scary nightmares which leave us breathless and frightened.
Was the monkey a prince of the past cursed by someone?
Or was he another Muchukundan who wished to resemble a monkey
so that he won't get lost in the worldly pleasures? :noidea:

I am sure Narayan Sir knows why I laughed out loud! :)

In case the readers have not seen/heard about Koko the gorilla, Here are some videos about Koko

https://youtu.be/SNuZ4OE6vCk

https://youtu.be/nmitnTdmrtU

https://youtu.be/vOVS9zotSqM

Dear Sir,
Namste and thank you for the wonderful video links.
By comparing with the people I know,
I came to these conclusions.
1. Koko listens better.
2. Koko looks at the person who talks to her.
3. Koko understnds better.
4. Koo responds better.
5. Koko is more friendly
6. Koko is more gentle despite it size and mass.
Thank you for the eye opener!:pray2:

Dear Renu,
Thank you for relating your unusual dream and
thanks to prof MSK for providing three links and
introducing me to the world of gentle giants after my
unpleasant association with Aadhi Seshans and Alsetians!

If pANini was about english grammar and if vAnarAH have karaichu-kudichu-fiyed pANini, will they find talking correct English the hardest part?

Good question but asked to the wrong person!
I do know that Panini's grammar is not about English.
I have not karaichu kuduchufied Panini's grammar.
Last but not the least I am not a vananra - though I do have a tail
on my head...call it a pony tail/ a pig tail / rat tail but it is there sir!

Here is a subhAsitani about pANini that fits here (taken from the website Sans_Eng: Subhashita-kaustubha (27-30) - number 28)

परसंयोगमहिमा लघोरपि यतः स्वतः ।
गुरुत्वमावहत्येव प्रमाणं तस्य पाणिनिः ॥ २८ ॥

Even if a person by himself is of no consequence (लघु), he attains eminence (गुरुत्वम्) by virtue of his association with the mighty (पर). Panini is the authority for this. Panini declares that a syllable which is लघु by itself becomes गुरु when followed by a conjunct consonant (परसंयोग)-> an important rule in Sanskrit prosody. [The poet manages to bring in similarity between an aspect of grammar and a statement of worldly value by a clever use of words with double meanings.]

WOW!!! A pun in Sanskrit dealing with

both Sanskrit grammar and the worldly wisdom!!!

There are many proverbs and quotes in Tamil to this effect.

poovudan serntha naarum maNam peRum.

mEruvaich serntha kaakkaiyum pon niRam.

In the negative direction one proverb says

pandRiyudan serntha kandRum malam thinnum.

DEFINE GOSSIP!

1. Gossip is idle talk or rumor, especially about personal or private affairs of others.

2. Gossip has been researched in terms of its evolutionary psychology origins.

3. This has found gossip to be an important means by which people can monitor cooperative reputations and so maintain widespread indirect reciprocity.

4. Indirect reciprocity is defined here as "I help you and somebody else helps me."

5. Gossip has also been identified by Robin Dunbar, an evolutionary biologist, as aiding social bonding in large groups.[SUP]

Before labelling some posts or some one's posts as gossip,

it is better to test the post(s) against the factors given above like

romor, private affairs of OTHERS, used for social bonding etc.

Surely saying that my dad is #1 and so we are conducting

international essay contest in his honor is neither a rumor, nor

a private affair of others nor used for social bondning.

Circulars had been put up, judges have been selected, prized

have been arranged. How can such an event be a rumor born

out of ill will in order to tarnish the image of anyone at all???

The secret of optical illisions!

1. to appear tall ....have very short people to surround you.

2. to appear lean... be amidst mottoos and peeppaai paappaas!

3. to appear fair ....paint everyone else black or in any of the 50 shades of grey!

Very useful for everyday optical illusions.

Optical Illusions

1. To make a small room appear larger…decorate it in light colors.

2. To make a large room appear smaller…decorate with warm colors.

3. To make a wall appear closer… paint it with a darker shade of the same color as the other walls.

4. To make a wall appear farther away …paint it with a light shade of a cool color.

5. To make the floor look smaller…use a dark floor covering/ tile/carpet/ linoleum.

6. To make the floor larger… use a light floor covering.

7. To make the high ceiling appear lower…paint it with a slightly darker shade than the walls.

8. To raise the ceiling higher… paint it in a lighter shade than the walls.

9. To lower the ceiling of a very large room…paint the top section of the walls in the same darker shade as the ceiling.

10. To widen a narrow corridor..use light colors on the walls, floor and the ceiling.

11. To shorten a long corridor or a long room, paint the end walls with a dark or warm color.

12. To change the proportions of a corridor, use darker shade on the ceiling and floor and lighter shade on the walls. The space will now appear wider and lower.

13. To make a cool room cozy and warm; use peach, coral and apricot combination.

14. To make a warm room cool, use blue, grays and cool neutral colors.

15. To make room brighter, use a white glossy painting on the ceiling. The ceiling must be made be made perfectly smooth or the defects will be magnified!

I thank the very-thoughtful man/woman behind
shifting this thread from GD to this section. :pray2:
It was getting overcrowded and confusing with
too many thinkos and stinkos!
I am sure people will still find me
wherever I may be shifted! :couch2:
