When my D.I.L speaks it to her family, it sounds as continuous as a song to me! :sing:

Dear VR ji,

Why does your DIL speak Malay to her family when its not her mother tongue..out here Non Malays do not speak Malay at home.

The only time when I speak Malay to my family members is when we are in India cos others would not understand it..cos in India what else can I speak to make sure others do not understand what I am speaking about.

For example when in India..sales persons have a habit of sort of listening to what you are talking..so I would talk in Malay to my husband and comment stuff that I do not want others to hear.

Once even in a Ramakrishna Ashram while buying books I was telling my husband in Malay that I feel the books here are good but service is rather slow...I spoke in Malay so that the staff wont get offended.

So I wonder why your DIL was speaking Malay instead of her mother tongue.

Dear Renu,

My elder D.I.L hails from Malaysia and Malay is her mother tongue! :)

She is Buddhist of Chinese origin and a staunch vegan - a better brahmin than me! :thumb:

Does she talk in Malay with her family for the same reasons as you do??? :noidea:

Dear VR ji,

Thats like saying anyone that hails from India has Hindi as their mother tongue.

I am from Msia too...my mother tongue is Tamil.

Out here Malay is the official and National Language and almost all Msian citizens speak it.

Malay is the mother tongue of the Malay community.

BTW Chinese from Penang where your DIL hails from are usually Hokkien ethnic Chinese.

There are also a type of Chinese in Penang called Straits Chinese which are also found in Malacca(another state)..but these types are almost never Vegan but they tend to use a lot of Malay in their conversation.

There are also many other types of Chinese from Msia.

Chinese from Msia are originated from South China.

Most of them have Hokkien,Hakka,Teow Chew or Cantonese as their mother tongue.

Mandarin is a literary language of China.

Ha Ha Ha...I am pretty sure your DIL is speaking Malay to her family for the same reasons which I do!LOL

Dear Renu,
Thank God I had already attended enough classes in Bhagavat Gita to look at people and treat them at the level of Atman.
Otherwise accepting a girl whose culture and customs are so different from ours would have been really very tough.
She can speak any language other than English to keep me out of her conversation.
She does not know any Indian languages and I do not know any foreign language other than English!
It may also be due to the fact that we like to talk to our family in our language rather than any other language!
I find it difficult to talk endearing words( konjufication) to the little ones except in Tamil - whether or not they understand it!!

Dear VR ji,

I hope you take what I wrote wrongly..I dont want you to start viewing that your DIL could be keeping you out of the conversation by speaking in Malay.

I was just relating my personal experience on speaking different languages.

For example when I am with my Tamil speaking relatives and I get a call from a Hindi speaking friend who also knows Sanskrit and I would not like others to know what I am speaking..I switch to Hindi.

When I am with my Hindi speaking relatives and I receive a call from the same friend I would have to speak in Sanskrit..cos my Hindi speaking relatives all understand Tamil well but they do not know Sanskrit.

If others too start learning Sanskrit then I would have to remain silent!LOL

Dear Renu,
To the best of my mother was the only person who desperately wanted to talk in Sanskrit.
You will always remian one up, since people here are making sure that the 'maRath thamizhan' also remains a 'madath thamizhan' for ever
by refusing to learn any additional language - whether Indian or foreign! :(

Man needs only 4 sq feet of enclosed area and 4 minutes to do a permanent damage!

A nightmare reveled to me how vulnerable women are - however old they may be!

A few days ago I had to ride on a lift all alone - since my husband wanted to go to the P.O. before joining me in our relative's house.

I did not want to do it but I had to do it all the same. It had remained in a corner of my mind

The daily stories of elder women getting raped mercilessly remained in another corner of the memory.

Sleep is the time when all these stored memories weave their own weird stories and night mares.

In my dream I enter a lift all alone and suddenly I find a very young man in there.

He calls me as 'Amma' and says that the door would not close. I try it and the door closes alright.

But at the same instant he comes closer to me from the backside. Immediately I woke up in cold sweat. :fear:

This is what I mean we women can never ever feel safe - alone with any male of any age - even in our dreams! :(

I go for the morning walk ONLY after the day has become bright enough to make me feel safe. :flame:

I may sweat more but it is good for the body and safer too.

'mai vazhiyum vizhigal' is the right concept I had regarding eyes till recently.
I was surprised that now white is used elaborately to make the eyes look bigger.
But I can never accept the white color in the inner corner of the eye for any reason! :yuck:
It does not make the eyes look bigger or brighter but ONLY dirtier!

Strange equations in real life!

During a family reunion I noticed this strange equations involving Time and number of persons.

Four ladies worked in the kitchen, for four hours, to prepare the lunch for 4 + 4 people.

The lunch itself lasted for 4 x 4 minutes and NOTHING was left over for the supper.

So again the whole process was repeated in making the supper.

If 4 people, waste 4 + 4 hours each, everyday, in making the lunch/supper for 4 + 4 people

how much time and energy will they posses to attend to the other chores in the house???

When I pondered this loud and I was given this sterling answer!

"It is worth the time and effort to feel satisfied after eating!"

Satisfaction is a relative term - like so many others in our lives.

The beggar is satisfied with one big meal a day and does not care about the taste.

The connoisseur remains unsatisfied if one of the several dishes does not turn out to his expectation!

I for one, believe in eating to keep the body and soul together!

In other word I eat to live and not the other way!!!

I am amused to see ladies who blow a fuse when

1. they have only 10 cashews while they need 12 to garnish a dish ( as per the cook book)

2. they have only dry ginger powder and not the juicy ginger to make special tea

3. they run out of curry leaves or coriander leaves.

4. they run out of green chilies or red chilies or both

I wish they show this much interest in the rest of the things they do during the day!

When you ask such ladies how they spend their time during the day,

their forceful answer will invariably be "samaichchuch chappadarOm!"

When all the energy is wasted in doing and telling this great daily activity

how on earth can we expect to get anything higher done in the household???

Some people assume that they are Sherlock Holmes or at least his reincarnation.

So whenever anyone calls them on the phone they will start wondering

why did he/she call me on phone....?

is it to boast to me about something.....?

is it to pain me about something.....?

is it to ask from me something.......?

is it to make me do something for them....????

So they will neither listen to the message nor remember it later!

Let me analyse this dream for you.

You are alone in a lift with a young man and you did not feel safe even though he was much younger than you.

That showed you were aware of female and the male energy.

Age only limits the body but not the mind...hence you did not feel old and neither did you feel the man was young.
Your focus was merely on the energy.

Here the male energy was behind of you and you were in front.

That made you scared...you felt alone even though the male was at the back of you.

You would have felt more secure if the male energy was beside you or in front of you.

Diagnosis of this dream: You are afraid of taking the lead.. afraid to be the leading energy and feel secure when there is a male energy beside or in front of you.

Treatment: You are actually quite young at heart VR ji..you should try falling in love again.Your energy is still very potent.

Wow!!! Dear Renu!

Are you a psychologist or psychiatrist ? :decision:

Do we need proof for the male energy - after reading the happenings all over the world, all the time?

I do not like crowded places but I do not like to be all alone in a closed space at the mercy of an unknown young man either.

Yes, I would much rather have the male energy (known or unknown) in front of me where I can guess his motives and watch his actions.

Backside is darkness! It is the unknown, unseen, unpredictable area for any one - not just me. I can lead a thousand people who I trust and know but not one person who might be an angel or devil right at my back side - close enough to touch me.

Age does not affect the energy of a male. It does not decrease with the increasing age nor is it very less in youngsters.

I still remember the jumps and jolts the 60 (-) inches tall and 70 (+) years old uncle of a family friend was doing on his sofa- a few weeks ago.

If it has been a trampoline he would have gone out through the roof of the house with those many jumps and as many rebounds!

P.S (1)

I am sure the friendly neighborhood policeman who made house to house

visits a few month ago (and showed us the foot-ball-like-head-of-a-man separated from his body, in his cellphone ) has managed to scare me well! :scared:

P.S (2)
I never wanted to FALL in love. I had always wanted to RISE in love. :rapture:

This 'Udta Pyaar' plan made sure that I did not find anyone good enough to

serve my purpose of rising in love! :(

Dear VR ji,

A cute bird had made a nest on the henna tree in my garden and laid eggs.

The eggs must have hatched a few days ago cos I can hear some very fine chirping tweeting sounds when I walk by the nest.

Today morning when I walked by the nest I did not hear any chirping sounds and wondered what happened? The mother bird too was not around.

Then I saw the mother bird fly to the nest and I could hear the fine soft chirping again.

I was amazed that the newly hatched chicks know to remain silent when mother bird is not in cos instinctively they know that making noise when mum is not around might put them at risk to be eaten by predators.

Then I looked at the sky and thought...Dear God...you really made the human baby the stupidest of all in creation..a human baby can cry even for no reason ...whether mum is there or not.

Dear Renu,

When the mother bird brings home fresh worms (invariably early worms) the chicks want to share the meal and remind her of their presence by chirping - lest she misses any one of them.

But human bay cries for three reasons... when feeling hungry,
feeling wet or covered with mush mush from the backside.

They cry more when the mom is not around in order to attract the attention of anyone available!

But think of this on this line to know how much humans differ from all the other animals, birds and reptiles.

The birds and animals care for their young only till they can fend for themselves and defend themselves.

But we humans spend our entire life in worrying about the lives of our children, in building castles on land or in air and in establishing stable financial saamraajyam!!!!

If this is impossible, can we at least hope for the perfect models of men - not modelling men!

Modular design, or "modularity in design", is a design approach that subdivides a system into smaller parts called modules or skids, that can be independently created and then used in different systems.

A modular system can be characterized by functional partitioning into discrete scalable, reusable modules, rigorous use of well-defined modular interfaces, and making use of industry standards for interfaces.

Besides reduction in cost (due to less customization, and shorter learning time), and flexibility in design, modularity offers other benefits such as augmentation (adding new solution by merely plugging in a new module), and exclusion.

Examples of modular systems are
cars, computers, process systems, solar panels and wind turbines, elevators and modular buildings.

Earlier examples include
looms, railroad signaling systems, telephone exchanges, pipe organs and electric power distribution systems. Computers use modularity to overcome changing customer demands and to make the manufacturing process more adaptive to change (see modular programming).[SUP][1][/SUP]

Modular design is an attempt to combine the advantages of
standardization (high volume normally equals low manufacturing costs) with those of customization.

A downside to modularity (and this depends on the extent of modularity) is that low quality modular systems are not optimized for performance. This is usually due to the cost of putting up interfaces between modules.

The man who brings fresh sevai every morning brings chappatis also now.

A packet of 10 chappathis rolled out and ready for the tava costs Rs. 35.

The price quoted on the packet is Rs 45.

If the shop keeper adds his own commission it might be sold even for Rs 50/-

The vendor gave it to me for Rs. 35 but I will be paying in the shop any sum up to Rs. 50/-

Imagine how how much profit the middleman makes on every item he sells in his shop!! :dizzy:

And the vendor brings fresh stocks while we can never be sure about those sold in the shops!
