Think or sink!

It is said "Different strokes for different folks!

Nothing can be truer than this sterling statement!!

முன்னேறுவதில் உண்டு இரு வகை;

தட்டிக் கொடுப்பது அதில் ஒரு வகை;

ஆடுகிற மாட்டை ஆடிக் கறக்கணும்;

103. Selective Listening

There are many similarities in the ways the brain processes the sound signals and the visual images. But there are many differences too. The main difference relates to the attention we pay.

We have more control on what we want to see than what we want to hear. Why?

We can turn our head and look at the object of interest without any disturbances. But it is difficult to listen just to the sound that interests us. We always hear overlapping and conflicting sounds which cause chaos. But this problem is settled in a unique way!

We can mentally choose to focus on one sound and block out the other conflicting sounds. This ability is called ‘Selective listening’. When two different stories are read out, in the two ears of a person simultaneously, he can decide to hear any one of them fully and just skip the other willfully.

We communicate through languages which have both sound and meaning. We understand coherent and meaningful words but not disconnected and meaningless chatter. Even in a crowded room filled with multi-lingual-babble, we can hear our name being called out softly, by some one, somewhere in the crowd.

Selective listening is an everyday business for almost every one. A person immersed in a T.V show is virtually deaf to all the other sounds around him. Have you ever watched a person working on a P.C? He is in the deepest form of meditation—lost to the entire external world! Many domestic quarrels result from this kind of selective listening.

It is amazing to watch students who use music as a barrier to all the other sounds. Have you watched a person studying hard for an upcoming exam, while music is played around him, round the clock? The music does not disturb his study but helps to keep off all the other unpleasant and disturbing sounds.

Diamond cuts a diamond. So too a pleasant sound cuts off an unpleasant sound!

While we are talking of listening it is better to know

how often people just PRETEND to be listening!

102. Types of Listening

We all appear to listen attentively to what is being told to us. But surprisingly we hardly listen to 50% of what is being told to us and later on hardly remember 50% of what we had listened to!

This is due to the defective listening techniques we employ. There are several defective listening techniques like ‘false listening’, ‘initial listening’ and ‘partial listening’. On the other hand ‘good listening’ can be either ‘full listening’ or ‘deep listening’.

False listening occurs when a person pretends to listen keenly, but actually nothing gets registered in his mind. People who are known to indulge in this kind of listening are the Royalty, Politicians, Sports stars, Film stars and famous persons in any other field. They are forced to listen to a lot of talk, from persons whom they may never meet again! So they need not listen to nor remember, what they are being told!

Initial listening
is when we listen to the opening remark, immediately form an opinion about it and wait for a chance to voice it. We stop listening to everything that follows the initial remark.

Partial listening is what most of us do most of the time! We listen a little and soon get diverted or distracted and lose the continuity.

Full listening is the most active form of listening. The listener pays close attention to the speaker and understands thoroughly what is being conveyed to him.

Deep listening is, when we not only listen to the words being spoken, but also understand the underlying emotions. We watch the body language of the speaker. We grasp the needs, preferences, biases, values and beliefs of the speaker. Deep listening is called as “the whole person listening”. It is also the wholesome listening technique.

It is said that, “The best gift you can ever give a woman is your undivided attention.” This is the gift every woman seeks for, all her life, but sadly very few ever receive it!

Fight or Flight!

In the world of animals their fright,
Always leads to a fight or just flight!

Not necessarily on a Royal Knight,
Whose nuts are screwed very tight!

He who lacks courage and might,
Turns himself into a creepy mite!

Venom is contained in his bite,
Tossing the victim in a sad plight.

He wants to prove his real might.
But sadly he is not very bright!

He can not stand the very sight,
Of the people who do the right!

When ones mind is full of spite,
One finds solace in every slight!

This is not how we use our height,
Or our massive body’s over weight.

One can’t bring down a kite,
Which can soar even at night!

What he needs is a cool Sprite,
To make him see the daylight!

And his mind must become white,
Whenever he sits down to write!

With this all the poems in The Naughty poems blogs are exhausted.
From tomorrow more new poems will appear in this thread.
I was wondering whether to name them as Naughty poems part 2
But just now I got a brainwave.
I am going to call the future poems as Nutty Poem Long and Short!

11-year-old Michigan boy commits suicide after girlfriend fakes death in online prank

An 11-year-old boy in Michigan committed suicide after falling victim to a cruel prank on social media. Katrina Goss claims her son, Tysen Benz, took his life after his 13-year-old girlfriend enlisted her friends to fake her death in what she described as a "controlling, harassing and manipulative" stunt. According to Mail Online, Goss told the New York Post: "She did a prank that made it look like she killed herself and used other friends and their [social media] accounts to make it look like she killed herself.

The bolts from the blue that hit me on reading this sad news!!!

1. LOVE at the tender age of 11?

2. That too Love deep enough to die for a girl friend???

3. Is committing suicide made so easy here by the prevailing life style???

4. is so much technical knowledge necessary as to play fatal pranks online???

5. Is any human life petty enough to die for a silly / thoughtless/ selfish girl???

6. What kind of friends are they who instead of deterring a silly girl

collude with her to fake her suicide which finally led to a real suicide??? :
frusty:

What else can happen in a country in which even in kids' cartoons, kissing and boy / girl friend concepts are frequently shown?

..... and the parent is completely absorbed in his girl friend/ or her boy friend / or the wedded spouse

with little or no time to watch over and guide the kids in their impressionable age???

பெற்றோர் கடமை, பிறந்தவர் உரிமை;

பிடித்தது எல்லாம் செய்து கொடுப்பார்;

Are man and his taste for lynching inseparable???

WorldBusiness Insider UK
'Their appearance was shocking': ISIS reportedly slaughters dozens of civilians trying to flee Mosul

Islamic State militants have killed dozens of civilians attempting to flee Mosul in recent days, hanging several dead bodies from electricity poles as Iraqi forces fight to retake the city, witnesses said. Troops are meeting fierce resistance as militants retreat into the Old City, where street fighting is expected in the narrow alleyways and around the mosque where Islamic State declared its caliphate nearly three years ago. A man who spoke to Reuters via telephone said he had found the mutilated body of a relative strung up from an electricity pole in the Tenek district along with three other young men caught trying to flee by the militants.

Given. You really deserve it, dear Sis!

Do you know what makes me happier than completing all these blogs and compiling their links?

The fact that I will be able to enter all my blogs to edit, keep track of the traffic,
read and reply to the comments! :)

Just a few more posts to be made in the Ninth Skanda of Bhagavathy Bhaagavtam
which I hope to be able to complete on Sunday!

Dear Renu,
I use Wikipedia a lot!
I also make sure that both my sons
make generous annual donation to it. :)

Dear Renu,

I have taken up a new hobby when I become unable to do one of my existing hobbies.

When I could not dance any more I spent more time in playing veena and in vocal music.

When I could not play veena sitting on the floor, I used to sit on a diwan and play.

I took to writing long long ago - thanks to my dear dad .

I took to serious writing thanks to an unknown well wisher in this forum.

He , a total stranger to me , is a member of the other famous Brahmin Forum also.

That forum was male oriented/ male dominating and women writers were treated like dust.

I got the link to my first ever blog of Tamil poems posted in that forum with the help of my sister.

He is the one who made me join this forum which could tolerate a new lady journalist.

A casual remark made by one of the taciturn prof(?) incognito made me

gather enough courage to venture into the world of quotes and proverbs.

My mother's comment the my little poem was exotic made me venture with more and more poems.

In life we get what we deserve ONLY when we make ourselves fit to receive it.

The Sat- guru also appears ONLY when we are ready for him.

Opportunities open up when we make ourselves qualified to enter in.

Nothing happens here for no reason. Everything happens for some specific reason.

So the moral is to elevate oneself in every possible aspect ...all the time.

When the 'Panam Pazham' is ripe enough the crow sits on it to dislodge it! :)

May be your mother is already reading the blogs or

may be she will be interested in reading them.

Whenever I see Malaysia in the lists of countries from which

people have visited the blog I think of you and your mother.

When I look back all the various unrelated arts, sciences , languages, skills I had learned or developed

they all seem to point to where I am standing now! Nothing we do/ learn ever goes in waste dear Renu!
