One is in 'MArgazhi' and one is in 'Thai'.

For more info: Refer to '2 amavasai in avani month'.

This is Sri. Gopalan's explanation.

"If there is 2 new moon or 2 full moon in a month you should not do subha karyams. IIf there is no full moon and no new moon in one month you

should not do subha karyams. If there is no tamil madha pirappu or 2 madha pirappu in one month you should not do subha karyams on those months
."

The doubt I got is this! Tamil mAdha pirappu means the starting day of Tamil month; so how could two mAdha pirappu appear in one month?

Even if we take English months, it will not be possible because Tamil months starts in the middle of English months.

Members have to perform Ammavasai two times in the month
of January 2014 - one on the very first day of month (year!)
and the other one on 30th (Thursday).

Consequently, there is no Ammavasai during Feb 2014.
If you are counting Amavasya tharpanam by English months, you have more problems than seeing tharpanam as the only way to pay homage to your ancestors....
