593399_thump.jpgEven as Ola and Uber drivers are in a protest mode, a new entrant with more promises has quietly rolled in.

UTOO, another app-based taxi aggregator, backed by serial entrepreneur C Sivasankaran, has been promising 50% discount on first rides. The app offers two types of cars — compact and sedan — and promises premium services.

On Thursday night, the estimated cost for a ride from MG Road to Bull Temple Road, Basavanagudi (7.3 km) in a compact UTOO cab was Rs 135 to 165 while a sedan cab estimate put the fare between Rs 150 and 180.

The company had expanded to Hyderabad in October 2016 after seeing success at its base, Chennai. UTOO got licence to ply in Karnataka last month.

Though the new cabs were seen at several places over the last few days, the company is yet to launch an advertisement blitzkrieg similar to that of its rivals Ola and Uber.
