vAdham and vivAdham

I tried to figure out the difference between these two. Google translation says:

vAdham = argument or arthritis

vivAdham = debate

A person can have an argument with another and 'that' could be sane or insane.

Two or more persons can debate over an issue and 'that' could be civil or uncivil.

Why is the same word used for argument and arthritis? Is it because people tend

to argue more when they are affected with arthritis, a normal problem of oldies?

P.S: There is another vAdham which is vidhaNdAvAdham and we know what! :D

My experience proves this:

So it is better to choose a wise person for vAdham or vivAdham! :peace:

Today, I came across an interesting page and wish to share it here. :)

வாதம், விவாதம்

Highlight:

''

The above post is very true.

Even in this forum , criticism of views is taken to be personal attack and some members attack others in personal terms if they do not accept their views.

I agree.

It is not surprising to read the postings of this Arm Chair alleged radical thinking torch bearer whose venom spitting postings were deleted by the Moderator after due consideration and application of mind. This is his lakshnam.

Now forgetting all this, he comes here to preach sermon to others. lol

Dale Carnegie in his book

How to Win Friends and Influence People

The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid this type of it.

“You can't win an argument. You can't because if you lose it, you lose it; and if you win it, you lose it.”

I thought "I agree" to be most hated pharse in the English Language for most here when they got the agreemnt from me! People are running out of Ideas if they see " I Agree " from others as well! I dont agree with this attitude! - I have no Idea what will be the reaction for my "I donot agree

It is nice to see a combative 'I do not agree'

I even said JJ has come as a breathe of fresh air in this forum when you first joined.

Hope to see ' I do not agree ' everyday.

In case you say I agree I shall re read my post to find out where I have erred .lol

Not everyone allows the others to disagree and put forth their POV. Even in our forum,

a few members attack 'selected' members, whenever a post appears from him / her.
We can find one such post, in this thread! :ranger:

One cannot expect to be submissive and post ‘ I agree’ always.

Some alleged brilliant mind has even predicted that JJ has come as a breathe of fresh air to this Forum which was very badly in need of it.

Hope to see ‘I agree’ in every thread, but certainly not in every post.

In case if one says I do not agree, I shall re read all posts to find out the real meaning conveyed by reading between the line.

How is it?????

Some deserve such postings. lol

JJ Ji,

That was the book I read in my seventies if I remember right.

Currently I am going through this one:

Don't Say Yes When You Want to Say No - by Herbert Fensterheim.

It is a Forum where one cannot expect all others to behave like a tanjore doll.

The whole idea is confusing When I say I agree he (author with whom I agreed) disagrees
When I disagree he agrees! When I agree we disagree and if I disagree we agreee!

We agree to disagree and disagree to agree !! Do you agree ?
I get the thread focused out of size on the screen and unable to reduce to the correct size to fit the screen -
Do you disagree?

I agree and I donot agree were single line posting. Then How will you read in between the lines?

How is it????? Any Idea ? The other lines exists in the mind of the author to disagree or agree respectively like
Boomathya Regai!

Not everyone who come here have any slight intention of going for a lively debate, meaningful discussion or exchange of thoughts, etc but some do write something without any basis, proof or statistics and it all happens in 'General Discussion'. Some members fails to distinguish the difference between 'Chit Chat' and 'General Discussion'.

For example one will say:

Kashmir Brahmins are toppers,

Kerala Brahmins are super and

South Indian Brahmins are paupers

When asked to explain the reasons or the basis for such damaging remark, such members will not substantiate their contention with any facts, figures, dependable material, instead will write a lot of unsustainable blah blah. And the reply will be more evasive, vague.
ambiguous and not to the point.

We have all sorts in this Forum.

With such members who are not very serious about topic, debate, etc having fun is no sin. lol

I agree to disagree.

Does it really matter is someone agrees or disagrees with us?

I feel each person is entitled to their opinion and let it be..all we need is to enjoy the differences of opinion cos the brain is like a "muscle" that is it needs to be 'stimulated' by different activity in order for perfect function..a mutual admiration society scenario would only lead to disuse atrophy of the mind.

So whether some one claims the sun rises in the west and sets in the east does it really matter?

Why fight saying that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west..cos the actual fact is the sun neither rises nor sets or is there something else about the sun that we do not know?

So just believe what we want to cos finally at the end of the day there is so much none of us really know!LOL

I agree.

What Vadham is this ?

vAdham = argument or arthritis

I have no idea!

If its formar It is Misplaced if later Misdiagnosed!!
It looks more nerological than ortho - Pakkavaatham where Pitham gets into the head resulting in Paralysis
Arthitis cripples you - Pakkavatham clouds your thinking
To get back to the true vadham and vivadham you have to flush out the Thalaikerya Pitham out of your Head!
Dr Warrior of Kotakkal suggests Ashta Chooranam for these Chronic cases!

You have the following
A) agree to agreee
B) agree to disagree
C) disagree to agree
D) disagree to disagree
E) all of the above
F) none of the above

JJ Ji,

Every one has all the above.

One may agree for some postings and may disagree for the other.

Similarly, one may disagree with other's POV andmay agree to disagree
So on and so forth..............................

Any way thanks for having taken such a trouble of analyzing my posting which were intended not definitely to infuriate other members.

By the way who is this Dr Warrior of Kotakkal? You may be well aware with such Doctors.

To my knowledge I know about Kripananda Variyar, Vallar, etc

May be those who suffer with vAdham may approach him in the interest of their health.

JJ Ji,

Madurai is my 'In-Laws' place. I love this place for lot of things which include Meenakshi Sundarshwarar Temple and the fresh jasmine with great fragrance.

Whenever I come to Madurai, I used to visit the library located next to the Railway Station, the name I now forget, will be converted into a Cinema Theatre in the evening to exhibit English Movies. It was my favorite place on those days.

I never forget the history of Madurai, with Tamil Sangam, Literature more particularly Rani Manganmmal of great sagacity and administration.

And Silapathikaram - Kannagi who reported to have burnt this old city.

Great Madurai!!

vAdham or vivAdham is fine as long as there is no name-calling (e.g: comedy piece)

or posting abusive pictorial messages from Google images / other sources! :typing:
